24.01.2022 Kids Optimal Multivitamin Kids Optimal Multivitamin by Seeking Health is a comprehensive multivitamin and mineral supplement that is specifically designed to support the nutritional needs of children. Kids Optimal Multivitamin is formulated to provide a complete and potent profile of nutrients that may benefit any child in combination with a healthy, balanced diet. Each serving includes bioavailable forms of folate, B12, and B6, amino acid chelated minerals that are easily ab...sorbed and utilized by the body, trace minerals including boron and vanadium, plus shilajit and milk thistle extracts to support healthy responses to daily toxin exposures.* Along with a healthy diet and lifestyle, the essential vitamins, minerals, and trace elements included in this formula may help enhance nutritional status. The amounts and ratios of the 28 nutrients in Kids Optimal Multivitamin can help complement dietary intake and ensure that daily micronutrient needs are met. To help address your childs unique needs, Kids Optimal Multivitamin offers higher potencies for key nutrients, antioxidant support, broader trace element nutrition, and augmented B vitamin support compared to most other multivitamins for kids. Iron and copper, often contraindicated in ASD and potentially toxic in excess amounts, are excluded.* Nutrient "families" are used to provide a wider range of nutritional activity. For example, vitamin A and vitamin E tocopherols are included to provide diverse antioxidant benefits. Biologically active forms of folate, B12, and B6 may help support methylation and transsulfuration biochemistry. Significant amounts of the active forms of folate (L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate) and vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin) are used as they are easily absorbed and utilized by the body. Together these two vitamins may help support a healthy methylation cycle and normal homocysteine levels. The active coenzyme form of vitamin B6 (known as P-5-P), is also included to support healthy transsulfuration pathways.* Many common forms of minerals used in supplements are not easy for the body to absorb. To address this concern, Kids Optimal Multivitamin contains chelated forms that are typically easily and comfortably digested. For a chewable multivitamin including a modest dose of iron, consider our Optimal Multivitamin Chewable.*

24.01.2022 Below will be of interest to those taking fish oil supplements: - What you must take with your fish oil to stop brain atrophy and memory problems - ... by Dr Franki Shallenberger How would you like to have a little brain atrophy? Atrophy is a term that means a shrinkage of tissue. So brain atrophy means that the brain is shrinking. Now that just doesnt sound like a good thing. And it isnt. Brain atrophy leads to cognitive impairment and Alzheimers. Nevertheless its not all that abnormal in the over-60 crowd. Whenever I need to order a brain scan in an older person, its not that uncommon at all that the report comes back saying the patient "has the normal age-related brain atrophy." What? Normal brain atrophy! I dont much like being that normal. So is there anything you can do to prevent getting this common problem? Just last month, researchers reported on a study of 168 men and women 70 years old and older who all had mild cognitive impairment. The researchers performed MRI scans of their brains to determine how much brain atrophy they had. In addition, they also measured their blood levels of EPA and DHA (eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid). As you probably already know, EPA and DHA are the therapeutic oils found in fish oil. Then the researchers gave half of them a vitamin B supplement containing folic acid, vitamin B-6, and vitamin B-12. The other half got the placebo pill. Two years later, they re-measured all the tests. The results were both amazing and interesting. The people with the highest levels of EPA and DHA who got the B-vitamins slowed down their rate of brain atrophy by 40%. But those with the lower levels of EPA and DHA saw no benefit at all from the B-vitamins. Why is this? Apparently, theres an interaction between the fish oils and the B-vitamins such that the brain is not able to use the B-vitamins effectively when there isnt enough of the fish oil around. . First, why did the patients with the higher EPA and DHA levels respond so well to B-vitamins in the first place? In all likelihood its because they were deficient in them. Herman Baker, PhD showed years ago that 30% of everyone over the age of 60 is deficient in at least one B-vitamin. Why? Its because as we get older our ability to digest and process B-vitamins becomes impaired. The good news is that you can easily overcome this problem just by taking a B-vitamin supplement.. Second, what was the reason that so many of the patients had such low levels of EPA and DHA? Its because unless you are eating a lot of fish or taking fish oil supplements, you have to depend on your body to convert the parent oils in foods into EPA and DHA. And many people just cant do that conversion very well. For them, the only way to have optimal levels of EPA and DHA in their brains is to either eat a lot of fish or take fish oil supplements. And keep in mind that DHA is the major fatty acid in the brain. You must have adequate levels of DHA for good brain function. And one last thought. The researchers point out that "the beneficial effect of DHA and EPA on brain atrophy may be confined to subjects with good B-vitamin status." In other words, taking all the fish oil in the world will not help your brain function unless you are already sufficient with your B-vitamins. So if you are in the Id-rather-not-have-brain-atrophy crowd, you can reduce your chances by 40% just by taking B-vitamins in conjunction with EPA and DHA. Dr. F Shallenberger. 23.01.2022 Natural Ways to Reduce Your Blood Pressure Oct 16, 2013 by Kat Tate Youve just been told you have high blood pressure. Now what? Well, there are a few natural approaches you can take to reduce your blood pressure. Here we look at some that may help. The Lowdown on High Blood Pressure... Its easy to prevent, yet causes nearly a quarter of deaths in the United States. Thats because high blood pressure can cause stroke, heart attack, kidney failure, aneurysms and other chronic illnesses. Some medications can cause serious side effects. So before you take any blood pressure medication, ensure you understand the possible side effects and consider the following natural approaches. Go for a Walk Sounds easy, doesnt it? Thats because it is! According to a recent study, people with hypertension who went for regular, brisk walks reduced their blood pressure by almost 8 mmhg over 66 mmhg. This is because working out increases your heart rate and boosts your heart health. In this way, you dont need to take in as much oxygen and your body doesnt work as hard to pump blood around the body. Make walking a daily habit and see if it makes a difference to your blood pressure. The trick is to exercising regularly and increasing your exertion to keep your heart working well. Meditate and Breathe Is there anything meditation and a bit of good breathing cant fix? Studies show that proper breathing, yoga, qigong and meditation reduce your stress hormones. Begin by meditating for a few minutes each day and build on it. You could also try a beginners yoga class and see a breathwork practitioner. Pass the Potassium Potassium is great for your ticker. At least thats the latest research to come out of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medical. Potatoes are great sources of potassium, as are bananas, kidney beans, raisins and rockmelon. Skip the Salt Some of us have sodium sensitivity, causing blood pressure to skyrocket. The best way to combat this is to reduce your intake of the salty stuff. A good trick is not to add salt to meals, and aim to halve your intake. Pre-packaged meals and processed foods are also high in salt, so always check the label before tucking in.

22.01.2022 New product from Seeking Health is Vitamin D3 and K2 drops. They are a team! D3 takes calcium out of your blood, and then K2 puts it from your blood into your bones. Optimal Vitamin D3 + K2 Drops by Seeking Health provides 500 IU of D3 (as cholecalciferol) and 50 mcg of K2 (as menaquinone-4) in each drop. The cholecalciferol form of vitamin D3 used in this product is derived from cholesterol in sheeps wool, making it suitable for vegetarians. Vitamin K2 is provided as men...aquinone-4, offering a soy-free alternative to the MK-7 form that is typically derived from fermented soybeans.* Vitamin D is essential for the functioning of many important systems in the body, and recent research has suggested that we may need more vitamin D than previously thought for optimal immune function and long-term health. Vitamin D3 is thought to be more biologically active in the body than D2, the form often used to fortify dairy products and other foods. In some climates, people may be able to produce adequate vitamin D3 from sunlight, but in cooler climates with longer winters, vitamin D deficiency may be more common. Vitamin D is required for optimal absorption of minerals including calcium, making it an important nutrient for supporting healthy bones and structural health. It may also play a role in supporting immune health and cellular integrity.* Vitamin K is an important fat-soluble vitamin essential for circulatory health and normal bone mineralization. Several different forms of vitamin K exist, with the primary dietary form being vitamin K1, or phylloquinone, found primarily in green vegetables. Another form known as vitamin K2, or menaquinone, is found primarily in animal products such as meat or eggs, as well as in foods such as cheese and natto, a fermented soy product. While most of the benefits of vitamin K were previously attributed to vitamin K1, recent research has identified important benefits for vitamin K2.* This liquid D3/K2 product provides lower amounts of each vitamin for greater flexibility in adjusting daily intake. For higher amounts of vitamins D and K in a convenient capsule format, consider our Vitamin D3 + K2 Capsules ALSO IN STOCK AT REFLECTIONS ON HEALTH .

19.01.2022 Bone health risk factors Certain prescriptions have unintended consequences Author Name By Dr. Susan E. Brown, PhD... A variety of medications directly cause excessive bone loss. These include: corticosteroids, synthetic thyroid hormones, aluminum-containing antacids, some diuretics, anticonvulsants, and antibiotics. Other medications, like tranquilizers, sedatives, and antidepressants, increase your risk of fracture by increasing the chance of falling. Different drugs affect bone health in different ways. Some diuretics increase calcium secretion, while long-term use of anticonvulsants is associated with vitamin D deficiency. Aluminum (contained in many antacids) inhibits calcium absorption and interferes with mineralization and collagen synthesis. Aluminum is particularly harmful in people with low calcium intake. Corticosteroids like cortisone and prednisone are given to treat inflammatory conditions, including allergies, lupus, and arthritis. They harm bone health on several levels: they interfere with collagen synthesis, increase parathyroid hormone, inhibit calcium absorption, increase calcium secretion, impair bone formation, and accelerate bone breakdown. Although antibiotics dont seem to affect bone metabolism directly, they have the effect of killing off important microorganisms in the intestines that are vital for optimal nutrient absorption. Overuse of antibiotics may lessen the availability of nutrients to your bone-building cells. We recommend you pair any antibiotic use with a course of probiotics, if you dont take them already. Depending on your individual circumstances you may not be able to avoid a certain medication. We recommend using the lowest effective dose for the shortest amount of time necessary. When possible, look for natural alternatives. For example most women can avoid antacids with dietary and lifestyle changes that promote healthy digestion. When you cant avoid a medication thats harmful to your bones, its all the more important to support your bone health in other ways. Weve had great success helping women mitigate the harmful effects of necessary drugs by reducing other demands on bone and providing holistic support to bone-building cells.

17.01.2022 Cleaning your house can cause asthma You know all those chemical cleaning products that people use all the time around the house? Maybe you use them as well? So, heres a question. What are they doing to you? Specifically, what are they doing to your lungs? The answer is in a new study published just last year. If you have asthma or any other lung condition, you need to know the amazing results in the study. The authors of the study looked at 21 women who were professional c...leaners. All of them had asthma. During a 15-day period, they reported on what kind of cleaning products they were using and how many symptoms they were having. They also measured their lung function during the day using a handheld device called a spirometer. For the technically minded, the measurements were the forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) and the peak expiratory flow (PEF). Heres what they found. The worst offenders were hydrochloric acid and detergents. In the evening after cleaning with these chemicals, the lung function of these patients was dramatically reduced. Hydrochloric acid is also called muriatic acid. Youll find it in virtually every toilet bowl cleaner. Youll also find it in a lot of "extra strong" cleaning products and solvents. Insulins Evil Twin This overlooked hormone might be the real reason you still struggle with out-of-control blood sugar. But most doctors (even alternative doctors) ignore it completely. Learn More Now So if you have asthma, be careful around these chemicals. If you can, use products that dont have these caustic chemicals. And one last word about asthma. Conventional medicine has nothing for patients with asthma other than medications for the symptoms. Unfortunately these medications can worsen the condition and can also cause osteoporosis. So wouldnt it be better to just get rid of the asthma instead of only treating symptoms? One cause of asthma is stress. Stress causes adrenal exhaustion, which brings on asthma symptoms. Another cause is a defect in vitamin B12 metabolism. This can happen even in people with normal B12 blood levels. And it can be overcome with injections of vitamin B12. Other nutrient deficiencies, including deficiencies of magnesium and zinc, can play a role. Another cause is eating allergic foods. If you have asthma and you havent worked with a doctor knowledgeable about these issues, find one. Many people can completely overcome their asthma by simply paying attention to what is causing it. Two resources you can use to find such a doctor are: The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (www.aaemonline.org) and The Naturopathic Academy of Environmental Medicine (www.naturopathicenvironment.com). Yours for better health, Frank Shallenberger, MD

12.01.2022 Betaine HCL with pepsin Betaine HCL: Natural Stomach Acid For Healthy Digestion Digestive Support Hydrochloric Acid Source... Helps Digest Protein Rich Foods What is Betaine HCL? Betaine hydrochloride is an acidic form of betaine, a vitamin-like substance found in grains and other foods. In the stomach, hydrochloric acid converts pepsinogen to pepsin, an enzyme that breaks down proteins into smaller, more easily absorbed substances. Individuals suffering with stomach and intestinal problems most frequently assume that heartburn, indigestion, gas, and reflux are caused by overproduction of stomach acid. This common misconception has been strongly re-enforced by medical professionals, who routinely prescribe stomach acid blocking medications at the slightest sign of stomach dysfunction, failing to properly diagnose the digestive problem by first monitoring the stomachs acid producing function, using scientific methods and neglecting to provide patients with common sense dietary recommendations. The symptoms of stomach acid (hydrochloric acid, HCL) over-production and under production are virtually identical. It is therefore unwise to jump to conclusions regarding whats occurring in the stomach without actual testing. What does Betaine HCL do? Betaine hydrochloride is recommended as a supplemental source of hydrochloric acid for people who have a deficiency of stomach acid production (hypochlorhydria). This deficiency increases the likelihood and severity of certain bacterial and parasitic intestinal infections. A normal stomachs level of gastric acid is sufficient to destroy bacteria. In one study, most fasting people who had normal acidity in the stomach had virtually no bacteria in the small intestine. Some bacterial colonisation of the stomach occurred in people who had low levels of hydrochloric acid. As people age, hydrochloric secretion may be reduced, which can result in decreased levels of pepsin. Without proper pepsin levels, the body has a difficult time digesting food. Betaine hydrochloride is used as a supplemental source of hydrochloric acid, which can be utilised by the stomach to produce pepsin. The combination of betaine hydrochloride and pepsin provide an excellent stomach tonic. Common Symptoms Of Low Hydrochloric Acid: Burning in the stomach, especially after eating Bloating or belching, especially after eating Fullness or heaviness in the stomach after eating Nausea after eating or taking supplements Chronic candida infection Indigestion Bad breath Diarrhea or constipation Food allergies Intestinal gas Itching around the rectum Weak or cracked fingernails Dilated blood vessels in the cheeks or nose (in nonalcoholics) Skin break-outs or acne Iron deficiency Chronic intestinal parasites Undigested food in the stool

11.01.2022 Transfer Point Beta 1 3D Glucan available from http://www.reflectionsonhealth.com.au//315-beta-1-3d-gluca helping with cancer is just the beginning of what this amazing supplement can do. There have literally been thousands of studies showing this product can; protect against infections, lower your cholesterol, lower blood sugar, reduce stress, increase your antibody production, heal wounds, help radiation burns, overcome mercury induced immunosuppression (like the Thimero...sal used as a preservative in vaccines), help with diabetes, and even naturally prevent Metastasis (or the spreading of your cancer). common Questions on Beta Glucan Q: Why havent we heard about beta glucan before? A: For over 50 years now, the benefits of beta glucan have been studied by universities, medical schools, teaching hospitals, and even Canadas defense department. However in the past, for the general public this supplement may have been too expensive to be on anyones radar. Recent breakthroughs in manufacturing processes have brought this supplement to be affordable to anyone. Dr. Vetvicka said You have to remember that since 1983 it is an official drug in Japan and Its used ever sense; so the rest of the world knows about Beta Glucan. Its more that the western world doesnt know. It is a problem of the philosophy because in Eastern medicine, meaning the Chinese medicine, the Japanese medicine, they are more interested about results. So If it works, lets use it. Here in Western Europe, the United States, we have to know everything. We have to know exactly what each molecule is doing, how long, how fast, where it goes, how it goes back in our body, etc. And as long as we dont understand it fully, it is not approved or accepted here. Q: Will beta glucan made from yeast cause a yeast infection or yeast allergy, or make either worse? A: No. Beta 1, 3-D Glucan is intensely purified from bakers yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and does not contain enough yeast proteins to cause an allergic reaction. Also, beta glucan is not live yeast, therefore it cannot cause or aggravate a yeast infection. The Beta 1, 3-D Glucan I recommend is rated GRAS (Generally Regarded as Safe) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Q: Is beta glucan safe to take with other medicines? A: Yes. The Transfer Point brand I recommend, when taken with prescription drugs, has no known adverse effects. In fact, research shows Beta 1, 3-D Glucan enhances the effectiveness of many drugs, including anti infection, cholesterol-lowering, and chemotherapy drugs. However, make sure you do not take it with immuno suppressants (for transplant patients)

This is another piece from a nutritional Doctor which I found interesting. How diabetics can avoid kidney failure ... If you have diabetes, you probably know that youre at risk of kidney failure. In fact, diabetes is responsible for 44% of kidney failure cases in the U.S., according to the National Institutes of Health. Researchers have recently found an important link between a vitamin deficiency and kidney disease. And the good news is there may be something you can do about it. In January, the researchers announced their findings that theres a link between vitamin B6 deficiency and kidney disease. They determined this by evaluating 120 diabetic participants and 52 nondiabetic participants. Of the diabetic participants, 46 had microalbuminuria, a marker of nephropathy (kidney disease). The researchers measured their vitamin B1, B6, and B12 levels and their vitamin B metabolites. In addition, they checked their homocysteine and methylmalonic acid levels. High levels of homocysteine are linked to low vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and folate levels, while increased methylmalonic acid can be an indicator of low vitamin B12. The Real Reason Why You Are Tired All the Time Hint: Its probably NOT due to poor diet, iron-poor blood, or a sluggish thyroid. Learn More Now They found that the diabetic patients had much lower levels of the active form of vitamin B6 than the control group did, with low levels present in 58% versus 25% of the groups, respectively. The low levels were defined as less than 30 nmol/L of plasma pyridoxal 5-phosphate. The nephropathic group fared even worse, with 63% of the group demonstrating low B6 levels. The diabetic groups also demonstrated differences in their levels of B6 metabolites, suggesting the metabolic pathways may have been disrupted. They had lower levels of vitamin B1 as well. Both groups seemed to have relatively similar levels of B12. However, the diabetic group had higher levels of the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein and the marker of endothelial dysfunction, soluble vascular cell adhesion molecure-1. While the differences in these levels dont tell us for sure that the deficiencies are causing the kidney disease, they are certainly worth noting. Its particularly important since its possible to supplement your vitamin B levels. If you have diabetes, its important to keep your vitamin B levels at optimum levels. Its not vital to test these. Just make sure youre taking ample amounts. Vitamin B is one supplement I think everyone should take. Thats why I put a full days allowance in Super Immune QuickStart. The various forms of vitamin B have a number of benefits. And now it looks like preventing kidney disease could be one of them. Yours for better health, Frank Shallenberger, MD
