15.01.2022 October is NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH MONTH National Mental Health Month is an initiative of the Mental Health Foundation Australia (MHFA) to advocate for and raise awareness of Australian mental health. It is an important time where the Australian community comes together to raise awareness that #MentalHealthMatters. The National Mental Health Month is unlike many other mental health awareness campaigns.... The National Mental Health Month is a program that the MHFA is extremely proud of and we intend to reach out to and educate as many Australians as possible, to help reduce stigma and facilitate positive and non-judgemental discussion surrounding the important topic of mental health in Australia. With one in five Australians experiencing a mental health illness, it is time we give mental health due attention, and that is exactly what the MHFA is wanting to achieve. Throughout this month, many events have been organised in each state of Australia aiming to attract and unite Australians of all ages and backgrounds to raise awareness of mental health for all. 12.01.2022 National Carers Week from October 11-17th, is a time to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution Australia’s 2.8 million unpaid carers make to our nation. One in eight Australians provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, or who is frail aged. You can get involved during Carers Week by visiting the website and taking a couple of minutes to say thanks. You can also help rais...e awareness by rounding up workmates, friends and family for a National Carers Week event, drawing attention to who carers are, what they do and how they can access services and supports. DID YOU KNOW? Carers provide 1.9 billion hours of unpaid care. The replacement value of that care (if it was provided by paid care workers) is estimated at $60.3 billion that’s more than $1 billion per week. The demand for unpaid carers is at an all-time high and set to increase in the future. By 2025 it is estimated that only 42 per cent of those with a severe disability aged over 65 and not living in residential care will have access to an unpaid carer. Source: www.carersweek.com.au
