19.01.2022 R22 Phase Out & Legislation Air conditioning systems use a form of refrigerant to cool the air; most refrigerants are now regulated with the worst types being phased out. R22 is an ozone depleting refrigerant gas (HCFC) which has been commonly used on air conditioning and refrigeration systems prior to the year 2000. EC regulation EC2037/2000 on ozone depletion substances introduced an immediate ban on the use of CFC's and also the phase out of HCFC's including R22, a ban o...n the use of virgin HCFC's was put in place from the 1st of January 2010 and as of the 1st of January 2015 all HCFC's will be banned including recycled R22. With the bans in place, R22 gas will become more and more difficult to source and as a direct response it will also become expensive. If you have old R22 systems installed it would be wise to budget and make plans for the future, not only is the refrigerant going to be hard to source but also replacement spare parts will become an issue as most manufacturers will provide product support for ten years. We would be happy to carry out a detailed survey of your existing equipment and provide you with our recommendations,it may be that the best long term investment is to replace the sytsem, if so we can provide you with anticipated energy savings, Replacing air conditioning systems can not only be expensive but also disruptive,it may however be possible to use replacement technology systems, with these systems the indoor and outdoor units are changed,but the existing interconnecting refrigerant piping and the electrical supplies are kept, as you can imagine this will reduce the timescales on site and hence the costs, we would be happy to provide information on this if required. Refrigeration and Air conditioning systems generally require two service visits per annum, however we do have contracts in more critical applications such as pharmaceutical and food processing that we carry out quarterly visits, this ensures op...timum cleanliness and efficiencies and also helps identify potential problems that could cause a costly plant failure and in turn a loss of production in the future. Service visits can be carried out at times to suit the client, this could mean during factory shut downs, holiday periods, weekends or evenings etc. On completion of the work a detailed running report is provided along with a list of recommendations for any defects found during the visit, the quotation for any repairs required will shortly follow the visit, if the repair is urgent, the technician on site will provide the quotation during the visit.
