19.01.2022 Govt’s seeking mobile phone ban for people in immigration detention - a lifeline to legal & other support. We’re appearing at an Australian Senate Inquiry hearing tomorrow @ 8.50am with Kaldor Centre for International Refugee Law, Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA)et al to oppose this & other draconian measures. Watch live:

15.01.2022 Our Executive Director David Manne and colleague Laura John are appearing tomorrow at the Senate Inquiry on Temporary Migration. The Federal Government’s pandemic response excludes many #asylum seekers and vulnerable temporary migrants. Safety net must be expanded to support them too. Here’s our submission:

14.01.2022 The Budget has left behind and only deepened the crisis for many thousands of women, men and children seeking asylum in communities across the country. For these people, there is no real safety net. These further cuts to basic support come amidst the global pandemic, when the need for help has never been greater. The situation is becoming more desperate by the day as many people face the prospect of destitution. It’s not only unconscionable but dangerous. Instead of boosting spending on detention here and offshore, this money should be spent on supporting people living in our community so they can be safe, sustain themselves, and continue to contribute to the social and economic life of the nation.

06.01.2022 In another move of conscious, calculated cruelty, #refugees and #asylum seekers taken from indefinite detention in one hotel in Melbourne to another one, inflicting more untold harm. Serious human rights abuse perpetrated in the suburbs of Melbourne.

05.01.2022 As the 30 June deadline looms for people seeking asylum under the Federal Government's interview surge, our Executive Director David Manne explains the concern is not about lifting the limbo, but how it's being done - arbitrary timeframes compromising fairness and justice on life or death matters.
