Throughout Australia, where our company is based, there are minimal plastic processing or manufacturing facilities. This problem is compounded by the long distances that the majority of products we purchase have to be transported. This has substantial impacts, as resources are transported back and forth unnecessarily, generating needless emissions a...nd road wear, not to mention freight costs. But through direct investment and innovation, and by designing infrastructure that is scalable to cope with the current and future volumes of plastic that are used and produced in each region, we can do the following: Capture what is already in existence Create full transparency and accountability for manufactured plastic Develop complementary relationships between industries. Dramatically reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfill or oceans Communicate that plastic is a valuable resource Reduce the amount of virgin material being produced Educate local communities about the differences between low grade and high-grade plastic Develop jobs and industries to give regions a greater influence over the sustainability of their local economy Plastic isnt just rubbish: it could actually be a driver for transforming regional relationships and inspiring true collaborations founded on circular economy principles. Ms Sloan says a key part of the recycling process thats often forgotten is buying products made from recycled materials. "The loop is not closed unless you buy that back," Ms Sloan says.... Save Our Supplies Ltd collects usable medical items that would otherwise be disposed of and redistributes them to other charitable organisations that work in developing nations. Loved hearing about the incredible work Worlds Biggest Garage Sale does, immense amount of waste diverted from landfill and this is a movement we can all get involved in. 15.01.2022 Today was a milestone for Cairns with the Cairns Manufacturing Hub officially opening at TAFE Queensland. The afternoon began with speeches from the Hon. Cameron Dick MP, Hon. Shannon Fentiman MP and our local member Michael Healy MP who has been a consistent support in this space. Special mention to Andrew Hayes for driving this initiative and his insightful overview on what the hub will bring to manufacturing in the Far North and to the whole team, Sandra Scarcella and Me...l burrows. We have advocated for years, as have many people, that we need more focus and investment on infrastructure to drive innovative and lasting solutions to the plastic issue. There has been much talk for the last few years and a very obvious gap that needs urgent attention and one point is we need less of the talk and more action. Investment from the waste levy revenue that is raised to go into the area it was set up to... boost-resource recovery, end market production. Support for research and development to those on the ground putting new ideas into action. Industry standards for recycled products to enhance quality. More transparency and tracking on plastic items.
