24.01.2022 Last weekend I headed up to Echuca, a Victorian country town that hugs the mighty Murray River, to visit some cousins of mine. We were having lunch at The American Hotel, when I spotted the local war memorial just across the road. It became a topic of conversation, and to my delight the younger children were more than happy to listen to our family’s history with the military. A history they hadn’t heard before. It’s great to know that the younger generations still have a keen interest in our history and identity. #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood

24.01.2022 Steak night is always a favourite at home. My routine? A hot grill, meat at room temperature, caramelising the outside of the meat and then resting the meat after cooking. That’s it! Everyone has their own favourite as far as the cut of steak goes. Fillet, porterhouse, rump. I’m a porterhouse man myself. Preferably grass fed for me. But whatever the cut just make sure you’ve got the mustards sorted. If you haven’t tried our range featuring the iconic planes of WW2 you are mi...ssing out. 24.01.2022 I was in SA the other week and when I saw this flag I had no idea what it was. It was at the barrages between Goolwa and Hindmarsh Island near the mouth of the great Murray River. It turns out it’s the flag of the Lower Murray River.and there’s a bit of history behind it. There’s an Upper Murray River flag too. The things you learn when you travel around this great country.... #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood @ Hindmarsh Island, South Australia, Australia

22.01.2022 Recently visited the Goolwa War Memorial and Remembrance Garden. Goolwa is a pretty coastal town in South Australia about an hour from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula. A beautiful WW1 Soldiers Memorial and a nearby Garden of Honour acknowledging all wars. Worth a visit if you’re in that area! #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood @ Goolwa, South Australia

21.01.2022 For those who have not experienced it firsthand, it is impossible to imagine the hardships that military families go through. I have kept this excerpt from ‘The Australian’ at my desk for over two years, and I vividly remember the first time I read it. It sometimes takes putting something into words to fully grasp the situation that hundreds of thousands of Australian families have been through. #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood

18.01.2022 Today is a momentous occasion for the Australian military, and especially so for the Royal Australian Air Force. Today, we celebrate the RAAF protecting Australia’s skies for 103 years. That’s 103 years of brave men and women putting the safety and freedom of their country before their own. Today and every day, we honour and remember all those who have contributed to such an important faction of our military. Their sacrifice and hard work is one of the most significant inspirations to our company, and our range of ‘Spitfire’, ‘Mustang’, ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Lancaster’ mustards are a testament to that. Pictured is part of the 87 Squadron RAAF (87PRS), a photo reconnaissance squadron, in August of 1945. #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood

16.01.2022 Muffins are a definite favourite in my place. Any and every season of the year. We love them for breakfast, an afternoon snack or even with a cup of tea at supper. Plenty of cold butter but more importantly plenty of the Oficers’ Mess condiment of your choice - Seville Orange Marmalade, Raspberry & Blackberry Conserve or Strawberry Conserve. Check out the full range at www.regimental.com.au!... #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood

15.01.2022 Continuing with our theme of photographing war memorials in country towns, this weekend I was in Strathalbyn. A beautiful town in country SA. The sacrifice that these towns made in losing so many men always amazes me. It’s a beautiful memorial outside a magnificent church and overlooking the gardens. I love their inscription - Strathalbyn’s tribute to her heroic dead #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood @ Strathalbyn, South Australia

10.01.2022 While it is so important to remember the hard work and sacrifice that our own troops have made in keeping our World peaceful, it is also essential to remember those from other countries that have helped our soldiers achieve that. Our diggers come across a number of different cultures on their deployments, and many of those cultures leave a lasting impression on those that they met. During the Gallipoli campaign in WWI, over 15,000 Indian soldiers stood by the sides of our ANZ...ACS. Whilst they didn’t contribute as greatly as Australia in numbers, they more than made up for it with their tenacious spirit and ferocity. Their mateship was not soon forgotten, and their qualities continue to influence Australian culture for the better. Our Indian Light Infantry Fruit Chutney, which is great with a roast pork, encompasses all of these qualities. In our own small way, this is an ode to those who help Australia fight the good fight. 10.01.2022 Tomorrow Australia says goodbye to one of its bravest heroes and one of the last remaining survivors of the World War II siege of Tobruk. Ernest James Brough was described as a true character who kept his mischievous nature all the way until the end. 99 years old at the time of his passing, Ern had experienced more in his lifetime than one could even begin to imagine. Ern’s time in the Australian military is the stuff of local legend and many around the Geelong area (Geelong ...being his hometown) talk of his amazing stories. From stories of being held as a prisoner of war by the Germans to lying about his age to the recruiting sergeant in order to be admitted to the army, Ern could keep a room entertained for hours. Out of all of his exploits however, it was Ern’s experiences as a ‘Rat of Tobruk’ that will etch his name into the history books forever. The siege of Tobruk lasted 241 days in which time the Commonwealth garrison, anchored by dogged Australians, held off a combined German and Italian onslaught. During the battle Ern was shot and wounded but later bravely returned to the battle to help his fellow soldiers. TRCC's main offices are also in the Geelong area, and we think it's important to bring to light the achievements and life of some of our local heroes. The service celebrating the life of Ernest James Brough will be held at Tuckers Chapel, Highton, on Friday the 25th October at 10:00am. #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood

10.01.2022 Food is central to experiences of war. In wartime, when cultural differences are amplified, food can be a potent reminder of shared humanity and reinforce a sense of belonging. Feeding is also a powerful act of love. We harness this feeling when filling our jars. #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood

08.01.2022 The relationship between Australian and English soldiers could perhaps be characterised as a friendly rivalry. Working and fighting side by side at war, both similarities and differences between the two groups were exacerbated during battle. However, one thing that never failed to bring the two groups closer was their shared reputation for being fiercely brave. This created an unwavering sense of respect between the two. After battle, our Diggers and the ‘Kings Gunners’ (a co...lloquial title for English soldiers) would often sit together, share their experiences and share their food. Since I was a young boy I’ve heard stories that the Kings Gunner’s relish recipes were especially favoured by the Aussie troops, with many sneaking into their allies mess halls to steal jars! Our Tomato & Red Pepper Relish draws inspiration from the recipes used by our allies during WWII, and aims to bring people together over a meal just as it did back then. Paired nicely with a toasted ham and cheese sandwich or perfectly complimenting any curry, use our Tomato & Red Pepper Relish for the gathering of friends, old and new. 08.01.2022 I’m attracted to flags. You might have worked that out! And I’ve been seeing some recently that I’ve never seen before. I was at the mouth of the great Murray River the other week. I’ve always wanted to see it and the importance of a healthy river system cannot be underestimated. I thought the mouth might be a lot bigger than it actually is and with strong outflows. That’s not the case. And pumping dredges work pretty much continuously to keep the mouth open. Anyway the trad...itional owners of the land around the lower lakes of the Murray River are the 18 tribes of the Ngarrindjeri Nation. This is their flag. For thousands of years they understood how the lower lakes of the Murray system worked. Due to our relatively recent interference with agriculture practices, irrigation and dams upstream some drastic measures have had to be taken to ensure we still have the Murray able to flow into the ocean. It’s a complex, vexed issue to try and appease all interests. Hats off to those who try and keep the balance. #regimental #regimentalcc #regimentalcondimentcompany #officersmess #australian #australianfood @ Murray River
