25.01.2022 Do you have a song that you'd like the students at TAFE NSW Newcastle to record in a professional studio?
25.01.2022 Day #23 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Wow only 8 days to go already! I’d better make them all absolute crackers then. Here’s one. Daniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. ... Who are these guys, why did the studio put up with them for so long? The answer could be in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2hxU4UG3dA #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
25.01.2022 Day #3 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Off to Byron Bay for day 3 where I’d like to introduce you to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. 24.01.2022 Day #30 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Wow here we are at day 30 already! I hope you’ve enjoyed this journey of discovery as much as I’ve enjoyed preparing and posting it. To be honest, I’ve hardly made a dent in the list that I started out with, so I’ve decided to continue to post this stuff, perhaps not so regularly, from time to time. Continue the education with me there’s so much more to learn. And we’ve hardly touched on my favourite genre reggae!...! See you back here soon - Cheers, Colin ************************************************************* From Houston, Texas, Khruangbin have been described as a middle-eastern inspired surfer-rock infused flamenco-laden psychedelic band. Whatever they are, Khruangbin are very interesting to listen to. A three piece who sound cool both live and in their recordings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4xKvHANqjk&t=2556s #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
24.01.2022 Day #22 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould An all round lovely bloke, Carl Orr is another unsung hero of the Australian music scene. I know that this clip is getting on a bit but Carl was spitting fire with his guitar when he was touring with the legendary Billy Cobham. I’d recommend checking out his most recent albums too. If you’re a guitarist, look him up for his online guitar lessons. https://youtu.be/iZ9om8ZMbWg... #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill

It is still an absolutely brilliant but forgotten piece of musical art from way back when. Do, please give it the time it deserves and enjoy!... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUKYnxdIZgc #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill

22.01.2022 Day #8 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould This one is for you lovers of Bass out there. Eberhard Weber is a virtuoso bass player from Switzerland , the likes of which you’ve never ever heard or seen before. ... I was fortunate to see him perform at the Opera House some years ago. Now in his 80s he no longer tours but he’s written and recorded some of the most sublime music. He’s an absolute master of his quite strange upright and this piece is just beautiful. Play from 12:07 T on a White Horse https://youtu.be/fTEd4_4KhNc #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill

21.01.2022 Day #28 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo Tobin, known as Amon Tobin, is a Brazilian electronic musician, composer and producer. I first got to know his work by accident (I just bumped into his work on a music website) and now I’m consumed and amazed by his thoughtful work. Stoney Street is a clever mix of Electronica and Jazz from his album Bricolage. https://www.youtube.com/watch... #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
21.01.2022 4 years ago we made a radical and positive change to our recording studio bringing it up to a world class level. A fabulous investment in the future of our students, and the teaching of skills that last for a lifetime. I'm so proud of what we've achieved here and the amazing students that have studied with us. You've been awesome! Colin Wright
19.01.2022 Day #20 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould English born, but living in Sydney, Steve Hunter is a bass player’s bass player, often compared to Jaco Pastorius. Mostly unrecognised in Australia, Steve is treated like a rock star when he tours the US. This short piece (with unfortunately not the best sound quality) shows off his considerable talent. Steve and his band often play here in Newcastle at the Grand Hotel Underground. Well worth checking out when gigs are h...appening again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIWe_bMm81k #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
18.01.2022 Day #21 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Linda May Han Oh is the last of our featured Australian bass players. Born in Malaysia and raised in Perth, Linda is an acoustic upright (and standard electric) bass player of extraordinary talent both as a player and a composer. Currently touring the world with legendary guitar player Pat Metheny, here she is playing at the Jazz Standard with her band. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CskuKiKMj1s... #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
15.01.2022 Day #18 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Tom Cosm is a very special New Zealander who uses computers create his compositions quite often creating them live on the spot in Ableton. He is somewhat of a genius in the software and freely shares his techniques on his website so if you’re an Ableton user and want to get in deep, I’d recommend his YouTube channel. https://youtu.be/rvYheUnBxO0... #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
14.01.2022 Day #19 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould Now a couple of days for the Bass players out there. (Still with Australian artists)... Tal Wilkenfeld is a Sydney born composer and musician who, despite her young years (she’s 33), has played bass for Jeff Beck, Prince, Eric Clapton, Herbie Hancock, Chic Corea, Toto and Mick Jagger amongst others. She was playing bass with Jeff Beck at age 21, and with Prince very soon after. Here she is performing one of her songs, Under the Sun, at Paste Studios in New York. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3VqpX3GVdo #30DaysOfMusicActsYouveNeverHeardOfButShould #30DaysOfInspiration #OnTheCouch #MyPandemicSurvivalPlan #QuarantineAndChill
14.01.2022 Day #6 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould While we’re in the 70s (see yesterday) you really should get to know Robin Trower. 09.01.2022 Day #29 of #30daysofmusicactsyouveneverheardofbutshould From the early nineties, I present the now sadly defunct Jellyfish and their album Spilt Milk.
