22.01.2022 In response to WGA:NYZ, poet in residence, Lachlan Brown wrote the following: WGA: NYZ Ghazal after David Burraston’s Soundscape Performance " Wedged in next to a column at St Johns, you receive these shaped sounds... like a benediction arcing to synthetic nature, looping questions through escaped sounds. Whipbird blaster rainwires along at 750m. A single drop expands to groan with all creation in labour. A whole universe stirs in that drop of wind-raked sound. Pieces of the track you run each week, the podcast bleeding its edges at the wetlands, wood ducks in vast array, phased interference pulsing with resurrection-draped sounds. Pieces of the run you track each week, the wind’s breath in the fairlit memory, quadrophonic horizons, pitchbending half-recognised versions of taped sounds. When the crow’s plangent cry sails over your injured right shoulder, it’s like Peniel: wounded hip, voicing God’s name, pre-exilic wilderness in place of sound. Generated drone or insect-droid ostinato, or maybe just an engine left running on Willans Hill in the smudge of half-dawn: all deals get cashed out, narrated in sound. But then there’s something striding over the landscape, some big roo with attitude and an agenda. You try not to panic as its megafauned heart beats out a great sound. The cockatoo tears the air above your head as the pulpit eagle silently stares everything’s rising on wings: the flocks of light, those prayerfully late sounds. The chorus reverbs to high ceilings, shaking the evening. The Wiradjuri air glistens with possibility and loss. A river flows behind the altar offering sacred sounds. " @lachbr will be reading new work in response to Artstate in today's final plenary. St John's Anglican Church where WGA was performed #Artstate #ArtstateWagga #JoinTheConversation #CelebrateTheArts
