23.01.2022 South Australia Police have identified an increase in Remote Access Scams, where unsuspecting victims are receiving calls out of the blue and are being requested to download software onto their phone or computers to resolve account hacking issues. Whilst these types of scams are not new, scammers are adapting to the December online shopping frenzy; moving away from misrepresenting telco companies and towards major online shopping platforms such as EBay and Amazon. Victims are... receiving unsolicited phone calls, with the caller informing them that their online shopping account has been hacked or an illegal purchase has been made. The caller then informs the victim that in order to rectify the issue, they will need to download an app onto their phone or software onto their computer. Unfortunately, the software downloaded is a type of remote access tool, which provides the scammer will full access and control of the phone. This means they will now have access to personal information, passwords and online accounts. Once the scammers have control of the device, large sums of money are then moved from the victim’s online banking accounts without their permission or knowledge. South Australia Police recommend that people do not download software or apps that they are not familiar with, and particularly never at the direction of someone over the phone. If you receive a call and cannot be certain who you are speaking to, hang up the phone and make contact with the organisation on a known, reputable number or alternate contact method such as an email address from their website. For further information on scams affecting South Australians, please visit www.police.sa.gov.au/scams

Landowners are asked to adhere to local harvest codes of practice which are available from your local council. Landowners are also asked to ensure that any burn-off activities conducted today are fully extinguished before midnight tonight. Agencies are advised to activate their Total Fire Ban procedures in preparation for these predicted fire weather conditions.

The 2021 Tasting Australia presented by RAA Travel will be held from 30 April to 9 May 2021, across 10 days and two big weekends in metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. 08.01.2022 ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND LOW VOLTAGE Low voltage shocks is one of the risk areas being targeted by SAPN. Every year around 1,000 customer reports are received by SAPN about small shocks (or tingles). These are an indication there is something wrong either with the electrics in the home or business, or on the network side. SAPN attends and investigate all shock reports seeking to rectify the fault. If customers experience a zap or tingling sensation when touching an electrical ...appliance or tap at home, they should immediately call SAPN on tel. 13 13 66 to arrange a free inspection. Over the past year, SAPN has undertaken several customer trials using SMS messaging to gauge the level of unreported shocks in the community and to raise awareness of the potential risks. The trials have revealed that many customers are not aware of the danger signals nor who to report the issue to. SAPN has developed a new electricity safety campaign as part its ongoing community safety program, focusing on guiding the public on what to do if they experience shocks in the home, come across downed powerlines, or are involved or attend traffic incidents involving electricity infrastructure. For further information: watch this short video (https://youtu.be/5Svmmmq-QwA) visit the SAPN website https://www.sapowernetworks.com.au//don-t-ignore-shocks-o/
