Born in Malaysia and raised in Perth, Linda is an acoustic upright (and standard electric) bass player of extraordinary talent both as a player and a composer. One special member worth a mention is guitarist Dave Gregory, formerly of XTC. Here they are recording at Peter Gabriel’s NewWorld studio with their song ‘The Transit of Venus across the Sun. I first got to know his work by accident (I just bumped into his work on a music website) and now I’m consumed and amazed by his thoughtful work. Mostly unrecognised in Australia, Steve is treated like a rock star when he tours the US. This short piece (with unfortunately not the best sound quality) shows off his considerable talent. Steve and his band often play here in Newcastle at the Grand Hotel Underground. I know that this clip is getting on a bit but Carl was spitting fire with his guitar when he was touring with the legendary Billy Cobham. I’d recommend checking out his most recent albums too. Tal Wilkenfeld is a Sydney born composer and musician who, despite her young years (she’s 33), has played bass for Jeff Beck, Prince, Eric Clapton, Herbie Hancock, Chic Corea, Toto and Mick Jagger amongst others. She was playing bass with Jeff Beck at age 21, and with Prince very soon after.
