21.01.2022 Keeping on the theme of shopping locally and in particular thinking of living presents this #christmas, we found a most gorgeous, brand new shop in #tathra today @juviesjungle And it is a bit of one! Gorgeous green foliage falls from the ceiling and surrounds you as you peruse all manner of pots and plants and then there’s Juvette Jory’s beautiful big smile to greet you Maybe it’s working with plants that makes her so happy? ... Open 7 days, 9am to 4 Mon to Friday, and 10 to 3 on weekends, Juvie has small indoor gardens ready for you to take home or give as gifts and she has all the care advice you need (and just quietly, the jungle is very conveniently nestled next to @tathra_cellars Here Juvie is caressing her favourite plant, a lovely glossy #philodendron, it’s important to care for our plant friends, right?? #juviesjungle #visittathra #plantsforchristmas #livinggifts #givegreen #indoorplants #indoorgarden #topoftathra See more

18.01.2022 This week SS had a lovely visit with artist Cheryl Davison in her new gallery and gift shop Mungala Bugaali, in Tilba. Mungala Bugaali is a cloud possum, the cloud over Gulaga, her possum cloak... Cheryl is an artist, and of course a business woman learning as I go but she says the shop is yes for my things, and a gift to the community and public, so that I can make culture accessible... I chose Tilba, because I live in Tilba, but also all the stories I talk about are all around Gulaga. It’s my country, my grandfather’s country, and it has a vibe. It’s friendly, alternative and accepting of Aboriginal culture. The shop is light and filled with beautiful things, and sees a constant stream of friends, family and other Tilba shop owners calling in for a chat and a browse. The store opens directly into the popular Tilba Teapot, which now houses an abundant produce store. Cheryl is an expert print maker, and her colourful fabrics, framed prints and cards, bags and hats portray beloved birds and animals, and icons from traditional stories. There are many works based on Gulaga herself. There are pieces from many other local artists also, baskets and jewellery, throws and skin care. Much to choose from, and if you’re really really lucky, you might hear a story #mungalabugaali #tilba #visittilba #tilbateapot #aboriginalart #yuinnation See more

16.01.2022 Christmas gift giving in 2020 feels different somehow, doesn’t it? We at SS are steering away from large shopping malls and foreign made objects, towards the hand-made, locally-made, and actual living objects we find ourselves visiting local nurseries, perusing pots and water gardens, beautiful blooms and blossoms, herbs and trees and flowering shrubs... For Christmas this year we thought about gardenias and hydrangeas, and the lovely ladies at Bega Garden Nursery enthusiastically agreed that beautiful and bounteous blooms, pots of herbs: Asian herbs, Culinary herbs, Italian herbs, Tea Herbs! and other thoughtful choices are definitely winners for gift giving. How thoughtful! A pot of your friend’s favourite herbs for their window sill, a beautiful shrub absolutely loaded with aromatic, milky flowers for your Mamma A handy and young shade tree for you dad to plant and for all to watch grow over the years. Our first Christmas recommendation for 2020? Visit your lovely local nursery and wander the aisles of a different (much prettier) kind Pictured is Judy from the little nursery down the lane who says: Living Xmas trees! Gardening is going off this year!! Bega Garden Nursery is open 9-5 Mon to Fri and 9am to 2 Sat #christmas2020 #livinggifts #thegiftofplants #localnurseries #beganurseries #begagardennursery #riversidenursery

A seaside fossick in the curated Essential Object store within @thewharflocal always rewarding ... #ceramics #buylocal #ceramicart #tathrawharf See more

04.01.2022 Yesterday we Rocked on for Kiah with bright sunshine, an enthusiastic audience, delicious curries, coffee and crepes. Clean Energy For Eternity hosted the event, raising funds to enhance the solar power set up in Kiah RFS fire shed with a battery pack, which helps when the power lines go down. We caught up with Prue Kelly, CEFE secretary and project manager and CEFE founder Matthew Nott who tell us this is the 15th Fire Shed they’ve assisted in remote SE NSW. Start...ed in 2006, CEFE recently held successful fundraisers for Rocky Hall and Wyndham fire sheds and were able to fund and install solar batteries in those small, remote communities. Matthew then jumped on stage with his band Surg, a avant-gard ukelele band that channels Melbourne goth-punk, along with The Hops, Heath Marshall and Wyndham School of Dancing students. We got to see the awesome pop-up sound stage pod funded and built by #rotary #minderoofoundation #socialjusticeadvocates and #bendigobank , which sounds and looks amazing. Wyndham School of Dancing students Shyann Asplin, Freya and Naimh Occleshaw, Jasmin Cooper performance included a piece called Ashes: a fire dance which tells a familiar story Thanks to sensational curry cooks and all the volunteers on the day including Jesse, Tim, Trent, Shayne, Jeff and Kerry Save the Date for the Eternity Concert on 16th October at Lawrence Park in Tathra, there’ll be 7 bands to raise money for Solar on the Tathra Surf Club #cleanenergyforeternity #tathrastrong #kiah #rockyhall #begavalleytogether #thehopsband See more

04.01.2022 The Sapphire Coast’s beautiful, rugged Wharf to Wharf Walk is being launched today, and it made us think it’s time for our first overnight walk. Sure it’s cold, but there’re not many people around and we could always arrange off-walk accommodation nearby, or maybe we could wait for the Spring and enjoy sleeping out under the stars. The walk is 27kms between Tathra and Merimbula wharves. It’s wild and pristine coastline, and the trail takes you through coastal and flora reser...ves, along creeks and beaches, under melaleuca arches, with views over the wide blue sea with occasional whales and loads of birdlife. This year the lakes and wetlands along the route are stunning, full and clear, populated by abundant birdlife and fish, and the enormous dunes have been shifted around by recent weather and swell. There are gorgeous cliffs, showing red and brown coloured slates and sandstones, long tunnels of squeaking grey melaleuca, quiet bays and inlets perfect for a heart-starting dip. The walk is doable in 2 days, with halfway camping at Hobart Beach Campground on the shores of Wallagoot Lake near hidden Lake Bondi and serene Bournda Lagoon. Plenty of campsites and amenities including non-flush toilets, showers, picnic & barbeque facilities and parking. There is no fresh water available at this campground and bookings must be made advance through NPWS. It should be noted that Hobart Beach is the only camping available on the walk route. There’s a great website that has heaps of beautiful photos, track notes, important info and suggestions and contacts for transfers and accommodation. And you could always contact the lovely people at Sapphire Coast Guiding Co to accompany and guide you along the way, and maybe create some extra adventures. Perhaps its time for an immersion in nature... https://www.wharftowharfwalk.com.au/

02.01.2022 So there was a theme for today: beautiful ceramics in cafes We’d love to buy local ceramic cups to use for coffee, would live to see more This from @boundtoearthespresso in #narooma Posted @withregram @boundtoearthespresso BANDICOOT POTTERY... So this happened today... Daniel from @bandicootpottery paid us a visit and delivered some of his amazing pottery to sell in store. For those of you who don’t know of Daniels work, he is a wood fired specialist, using locally sourced materials for his creations. Every one is unique, with no two pieces the same. The epitome of hand crafted. Unfortunately Daniel and his wife @gabriellepowell7685 lost all of their works, tools and studio in the devastating fires that hit Cobargo in 2019. They have now rebuilt, so to say these pieces are special is an understatement! My biggest problem now, is not taking it all home to join other pieces of Daniels I already own SS visited Bandicoot with Gabrielle just after the fires and it had been so hot the engines of collected Volvos had melted out onto the ground it is so great to hear they have rebuilt and are back making beautiful things #ceramics #handmade #bandicootpottery #shoplocal #emptyesky #noplastic
