24.01.2022 New ROSA research for the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety shows Australia could immediately establish independent, transparent, routine monitoring and public reporting of many aspects of aged care quality outcomes similar to leading countries like Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada and the USA. This research examined practices in 11 countries and 305 quality of care indicators and concluded that a large range of quality indicators can be examined from existing data in Australia without any additional burden to aged care providers. https://agedcare.royalcommission.gov.au//australia-far-beh

22.01.2022 * * Families will be able to compare the quality and safety of aged care homes across Australia with a new tool aimed at improving care for our lov...ed ones. Called the Outcome Monitoring System (OMS), the tool has been developed by the University of South Australia's Associate Professor Maria Inacio with funding from The Hospital Research Foundation. It has been designed using information from the SAHMRI-based Registry of Senior Australians to measure 12 key indicators in aged care such as sedation, medication use, ED presentations and more. The OMS aims to promote transparency and accountability throughout the industry and has been presented to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety in the hope it can inform recommendations for future policy changes.
