25.01.2022 Speaking to people involves a lot of listening... and listening involves feeling... before we speak we can feel the impulse of what to say. Call and Response... do they need to hear what we are about to say? Have they asked us for it?

23.01.2022 Harmony in Relationships: We all have triggers that push our buttons, and we can easily go into blaming other people with ‘he said’ ‘she said’ statements because we’ve taken things personally. The thing is, the energy that comes through those people knows exactly what those triggers are, and deliberately uses them to put us off balance. We can counter the attack in a different way; not with blame or judgement, but instead using the opportunity to identify what our triggers are, what was the hurt the incident brought up for us, and then we can choose to truly let it go.

21.01.2022 Listening: we can learn many different techniques for listening such as open and closed questions, paraphrasing, reflecting, summarising, but one of the most important ones I am learning is giving people space to speak. Not to jump in or try to fix their problems, simply staying silent and not interrupting. Looking at them so they know you are listening, or saying mm if it’s on the phone, but allowing a beautiful, timeless, non-judgemental space for them to feel deep inside and formulate their own words. #Listening

10.01.2022 WES - The Women’s Engineering Society has been around since 1919 and last year celebrated their centenary. This page is well worth reading as it documents many of the women heroes, sung and unsung, who have made a difference in the world through their engineering prowess. Here’s an example: Beatrice ‘Tilly’ Shilling, originally one of Margaret Partridge’s apprentices, went on to invent an adaption to Spitfire and Merlin engines (nicknamed Miss Shilling’s Orifice by the RAF) ...which stopped the engines flooding during manoeuvres, preventing the aircrafts from crashing. This is thought to have played a significant role in Britain’s ability to win the Battle of Britain, yet she is only known to subject specialists, rather than being a famous name with films inspired by her work as happened to many male engineers of the era. #Engineering #WES https://www.wes.org.uk/content/history See more

08.01.2022 Eye Contact: Eye contact is so important - we often avoid eye contact with people when we are not feeling good about ourselves, holding back, closing off. Making eye contact with someone who feels confident can be inspiring if we are open to that inspiration, or it can be daunting because it reflects back to us that we are not being all of who we can truly be. #EyeContact

05.01.2022 It was so lovely to be in Australia and reconnect with the Womens Engineering Society at their AGM in the UK and to hear words of inspiration from Amanda Fisher, CEO of Amey who is bringing a person-centred focus to managing the company. She emphasised the importance of Communication and Authenticity. It was inspiring to hear how she made sure employees weren't penalised during lockdown and how many of her staff are included in health and wellness programmes. #womeninengineering
