05.01.2022 Santosha 'Complete Contentment'. Santosha is one of the second Niyamas or 'Virtues' as described in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras (Ancient Yogic teachings on how to practice Yoga, the development of Yogic powers, and finally, enlightenment or 'Moksha'). Santosha is generally considered to be both an attitude and a state of deep inner peace. Santosha helps the Yogi to develop a better relationship with him/herself. They learn to accept and be content with the way they are, rather ...than making their happiness dependent on achieving certain goals, or changing aspects of themselves. In yoga, santosha can be exercised through asana practice; by accepting oneself; and by accepting the body's limitations, rather than striving for more. So, How are you practising Santosha? Santosha to me looks like- being ok with my progress with my Asana practice I had a hamstring injury about 5 months ago which has impacted my range of flexibility in my hamstrings and my poses. When it first happened, I was really upset that my downward dog's didn't look as good as they used to be as I now have to bend my knees deeply in the pose to prevent pain. It took me a while to be ok with my new version of downward dog and realised that it was my ego talking and comparing myself to my fellow Yogi's. But you know what, yoga is for everyone and you shouldn't compare your ability to anyone else's. Be content with what your poses looks like, regardless of the variation or adjustments that you need to take. It's all a journey and when we practice contentment and gratitude, we stay in the present moment and love ourselves, which is bliss . I teach every Sunday afternoon at 4.30pm at Nelson Park, Alexandra Headland with The Kindness Collective . Yoga is for every one and every ability so if you'd like to come along for some fun, then please click the link in my bio for more information . . #santosha #yogiclife #unconditionallove #patanjaliyogasutras #ashtangayoga #yogateacher #yogaforeveryone #yogaphilosophy #niyama #yogafun #gratitudeattitude #contentment
