19.01.2022 My Reiki Story I discovered Reiki while I was living in London around 1998-9. To set the scene, my lifestyle was out of control, working at a PR firm (think AbFab, we worked and played hard!), really poor relationship management, too much of anything that provided instant gratification and which assisted me in raging forward without having to think too deeply - which, actually, failed miserably. It all culminated in three weeks stress leave and a bottle of valium, which barel...y scratched the surface, to be honest, but it bought me some valuable time. Walking down Stoke Newington Church Street, I saw a sign advertising Reiki treatment. I had no idea what it was but I knew that I needed something, so I called the number and made an appointment with a beautiful, ethereal Reiki Master called Amrit. I remember laying on the table thinking ‘well, this is a load of old bollocks!’ and immediately afterwards was declaring to anyone who would listen that Reiki had saved my life and insisting that everyone should try it out. In 2000 I had my Reiki I and II attunements with Amrit and have been treating myself and friends ever since. I continued for the next twenty years with the lack of self-care, low self-esteem and, where Reiki was concerned, imposter syndrome I didn’t believe I had the stuff to help anyone other than people I deemed safe not to think that I was some airy-fairy pusher of nonsense, or ‘well, this is a load of old bollocks!’. So fear of my own judgement and my failure to understand that Reiki wasn’t actually about me, were a giant block between me using something I love and believe in as a personal tool, and me offering it as a service - that and a truck load of personal development that I needed to undertake (which I would be arrogant to suggest is complete). Recently, during a Kundalini yoga practice at Sundance Studio in Mission Beach I had an epiphany - it was suddenly, absolutely, mind blowingly obvious that I should start practicing Reiki, that I have arrived at the time when I can unequivocally offer it as a healing tool to anyone who would like it. I am not an airy-fairy pusher of nonsense! This is the beginning of a new chapter, which involves me fully trusting in Reiki and allowing myself to be vulnerable - starting with sharing this very personal missive, eek!
