22.01.2022 Meet Dennis! Dennis and his wife Rhonda have been a part of and coordinate the volunteer group #sutherlandshiretangaroabluevolunteers for several years, conducting regular beach clean ups of the Green Hills site and then sorting and counting the debris items to log on the @tangaroablue #AMDI database. This database is an important tool to assess the source of the litter and work on local source reduction plans. You will be seeing more of Dennis soon, but we thought we woul...d ask him his thoughts on @plasticfreejuly this year ! This #PlasticFreeJuly SO SHIRE and Plastic Free Sutherland Shire are celebrating and promoting our Sutherland Shire Sustainable Stars (our custodians and stewards of our local environment and culture). We are not just focussing on single use plastic reduction, but all the amazing projects and initiatives our local people are involved in that embrace the conservation, awareness and appreciation of our local environments - those that love where we live and look after it by living, working and playing sustainably. This will include short social media posts and videos and hopefully, a longer production in the future that you will be all involved with. #pfj2020 is used as the launch month, but this project will continue through out the year. #stewardsofsutherlandshire #soshirecustodians #reducereuserecyclerot #choosetoreuse #community

16.01.2022 Tangaroa Blue and AMDI partners are so very close to removing and identifying a staggering 17 million items of litter from oceans and waterways around Australia... through community clean-ups over the last 16 years. As some of you might know, due to COVID regulations, this is the first year that Heidi Tait, the CEO of Tangaroa Blue, hasn't been able to attend the WA Clean-up event that she started in 2004. So in the meantime, the staff and supporters of Tangaroa Blue would like to take this moment to acknowledge the hard work and determination that Heidi has shown over these past years! From deciding to clean-up her local beach in 2004, to creating the world’s most comprehensive database on marine debris, to implementing data-based change across the country, Heidi has taken the organisation Tangaroa Blue on a huge journey and doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon! And of course, our achievements are also testimony to all of your support, so THANK YOU! Read more here --> https://www.tangaroablue.org//17-million-pieces-a-tribute/
