24.01.2022 This arrived for my office today and I love it to bits. Such a powerful metaphor for the way thoughts can propagate. Be aware of the thoughts you plant and how you tend to them. Tending to thoughts that are consistent with your values provides nourishment for the whole. Inspirations waiting to bloom require space and reverence for how they are fertilised and the soil they will sprout from. Ruminations can be like toxic weeds whose overgrowth extends beyond the mind and begin ...to constrict the body. Resentments akin to spikey cactus that pricks the very hands supporting them. Some gardens are so dense that nothing in them every sees the sunlight. When struggling with what might be growing in your own head, remember, Mindfulness can be both the shears that cut away the thoughts you dont want anymore, and the watering can that feeds those that you would like to sprout.
24.01.2022 With so many people talking about making the time to play board games and garden and reconnect with the things they love, its a good opportunity to reflect on what monopolised our time before social isolation. How many things were done on automatic pilot? How much time was spent overscheduled with activities that didnt nourish? As we move forward it its important to be in the drivers seat and use the signs you are seeing now to guide your direction for when you the world opens up again and you get to pass go.

21.01.2022 While we are all in lockdown the Easter Bunny and his friends enjoy the earthwith no planes in the sky, no fumes in the air and no cars polluting the quiet. 21.01.2022 In much the same way Austrian psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl reflected in his book Mans Search for Meaning: Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedomsto choose ones attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose ones own way. ...the Stoics advised that we had the power to change our experience of events by altering our reflections about them and the meaning we made from them. https://theconversation.com/what-would-seneca-say-six-stoic

17.01.2022 We are all story writers and storytellers. Right now, we are writing the story that we will one day tell about how we endured the coronavirus pandemic. What sort of story do you want yours to be? Is it a story of stepping into a new skill? Connecting more deeply with your partner? Embracing your community through social media? Remembering to make the space to simply be your children? Learning you were stronger than your thought? Learning that you were more vulnerable than ...you thoughtbut that you also learnt to take time to tend to that vulnerability? Will your story be about meaningful contemplation or values-based action? Your character is the hero of this story. Take time to really get to know your character and allow it to become strengthened or transformed through the journey. Our stories dont have to be the same, they cant be the same, but we are all writing this one together. It will be a significant story in time. Contemplate the story you want to tell

14.01.2022 A really powerful insight into the monotony kids and teens are dealing with during lockdown and a potent reminder to check in and connect with them regularly, be a bit more lenient with expectations and revisit some of your non-lockdown rules to help them access those 'feel good' neurotransmitters usually activated by time with friends. https://www.huffingtonpost.ca//ontario-teen-numb-short-fil
14.01.2022 Melbournians now that lockdown is more stringent and has been extended, it's a nice time to reflect upon one of my favourite philosophers, Rumi's, thoughts about visitors. Welcome them in, sit still with them, don't act upon them, just make a space for them, watch with curiosity and tend to them dearly...perhaps bring out the fine china...they don't usually stay long, unless you invite them to.

06.01.2022 Stonewalling can be a conscious way of maintaining control and preventing connection and communication within relationships...but often it's not. Often the partner who is doing the stonewalling has become so flooded that their flight or freeze mechanism have been activated and there is a need to deescalate that hyper arousal before meaningful connection can take place. Conversational boundaries can be a great way to prevent flooding. https://www.gottman.com//conversational-boundaries-withou/

03.01.2022 Today is R U Ok Day. 2020 has been a particularly tricky year for many and the extended lockdown has amplified this in Melbourne. Sometimes it's the people that are struggling most that build a fortress of perceived 'okayness' that stops their friends from checking in on them. Today is a great reminder to check in on all those you care about, especially those living alone or those who have been quiet for a while.
03.01.2022 For those of you who are already bored at home Did you know that in 1665 Isaac Newton was forced to leave his studies at Cambridge University and retreat to his family estate as a form of social distancing during the infamous Bubonic Plague? It was during this downtime that he contemplated the apple tree outside his bedroom window and came up with the Theory of Gravity so you cant really be saying that youve already run out of things to do
