For National children's week, we'd like to share some of the ways we support children. ... Children's counsellor, Kelly, uses sand tray therapy in her work on the Tiwi Islands Kids can use sand and toys to create miniature worlds that reflect their feelings. It helps increase emotional expression while reducing distress that can come from talking about traumatic experiences.

03.01.2022 Today Relationships Australia staff and community members came together to commemorate the 11th Anniversary of the National Apology to Forgotten Australian & Former Child Migrants. We reflect on this historic event and its meaning, and pay our respects to those who childhoods were taken from them and who continue to be impacted by institutionalisation. Over the last century an estimated 500,000 children grew up in orphanages, foster care, children’s homes or other institution...s across Australia. Many of these children suffered physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse at the hands of those who were charged with their care. For Forgotten Australians & Former Child Migrants, this apology signifies that they had been listened to, believed and acknowledged.
