13.01.2022 Benefits of Massage During Winter As it is nearly the end of July, that means we are officially into the middle of winter. Winter is an interesting time that divides many of us Some people love the cold, the dark mornings, the frosty steering wheel first thing in the morning, while others yearn for the warmer months to return. The interesting thing is that many people report feeling a decline in their health during the winter months. Although there is no definitive resear...ch on the topic, it has been suggested that this is due to a lack of time spent in the sun (where sun has been shown to improve mood), a decline in the amount of exercise one does in the colder months (not leaving your warm bed to do your daily run), a trend of consuming more food higher in calories (think hot fudge sundaes in front of the fire), the increased darkness, and the general discomfort of feeling cold all the time. So, the question we here at Evolve College are asking is, how can massage therapy support in the colder months? The following is a list of the possible benefits of booking those extra massage sessions to get you through the winter time. 1. Massage makes you feel good Who doesn’t enjoy having a deeply relaxing massage? This can support you in combating those winter blues. If you are a therapist, keep in mind that your client may be feeling chilly when they come to see you. Heaters and warm towels can support their body to relax deeply on the table. 2. Massage can stimulate otherwise dormant muscles If you have ditched your running shoes this winter, then massage therapy can give your muscles the much-needed wake up call. This can even make you feel more like exercising as a result of the increased vitality. 3. Massage softens your skin Winter has a way of making our skin feel particularly dry. Oils used in a massage therapy session can soften and support hydration of the skin. 4. Enhances blood flow Conditions such as arthritis, or any other general aches and pains can feel a lot worse during the cold of winter. Massage therapy enhances blood flow in the body which can support in alleviating stiffness and soreness. So, this winter, why not treat yourself to a massage? 13.01.2022 Over the last 6 weeks, massage therapists around the world have ceased practice to help #flattenthecurve It's not easy. We know our clients value and miss us. We live with the confronting irony that people need care, comfort and touch now more than ever. But the COVID19 pandemic has changed the rules for humanity and we are committed to the common cause of containing the spread.

11.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE: The Association of Massage Therapists today advised its 3000 practitioner members to shut down for 2 weeks to help contain the spread of COVID19. Massage therapists are in close non-casual contact with their clients between 5 to 40 hours a week. They are at high risk of becoming vectors for transmission of the virus. AMT Chairperson Michelle McKerron said This is not a decision that the AMT Board has taken lightly or easily. However, due to the nature of the... work, massage therapists are unable to socially distance themselves from their clients and we believe the risks of transmission are unacceptably high. AMT recognises the huge financial impacts of this advice on our members, who are overwhelmingly self employed. But we reached the conclusion that there is now no form of screening that can be considered satisfactory, given that the symptoms of COVID19 don’t manifest themselves for several days. While we acknowledge that the advice may be viewed as overly cautious, we came to the resolution that strong, pre-emptive action is required at this time, said Ms McKerron. AMT will review the advice in the coming days and provide further updates to their members as events unfold.

11.01.2022 AMT advised our members to discontinue treating one week ago. The State and Federal Government messaging around attending massage has become extraordinarily confusing. Here are some things to consider before booking or attending a massage.

08.01.2022 5 Interesting Facts about Massage Massage therapy is one of the most popular forms of complementary medicine in Australia, with studies showing 20% of Australians reporting consultations with a massage therapist in the last 12 months! Here are some interesting facts you may not know about Massage Therapy.... 1.Massage uses touch to stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers. There are approximately 5 million touch receptors in our skin, with 3,000 in a finger tip alone. 2.It has been said that massage is one of the oldest and simplest forms of healthcare. It is depicted in Egyptian tomb paintings as well as mentioned in ancient Chinese, Japanese, Indian and ancient Greek texts. 3.Many musculoskeletal conditions treated by massage therapy are best treated with medium to light pressure, which busts the myth of no pain no gain! 4.Regular massage therapy sessions have been found to have health benefits such as lower blood pressure, improved body posture and circulation to name a few. 5.There are around 75 forms of massage used today. In addition to the growing demand from the public, there are significant levels of support amongst Australian GPs for the further incorporation of massage therapy into primary health care, including support to reduce anxiety in patients as proven by medical studies. There is therefore an increasing need for highly qualified Massage Therapists in this expanding and prosperous industry.
