Rooftop cabling is protected in conduits, the rooftop isolator is protected with a weathershield, the roof penetration is with a silicon-filled DekTite on which NO screws are used in the roof sheet valleys, the flexi conduit is HD and UV stabilized... and even the zip ties are nylon coated stainless steel! 24.01.2022 QLD getting a massive wind farm of almost 200 turbines. The writing is on the wall, investors are talking with their feet. Solar and wind are going up everywhere. And not a single coal fired power station is happening, and I doubt ever will. Coal has only ever gotten more and more expensive, while wind and solar have plummeted in price. 19.01.2022 Hot tip: Going off grid means making a couple of changes. The biggest ones are your hot water and your oven. Use gas for cooking, and use either gas or solar for hot water. This is the secret. Most sales guys won't tell you this. Instead what they will do is say "let's do an energy audit" and ask you to bring out an Ergon bill. Then they will use those figures, (hot water system, oven and all), and tell you that you need a monster sized off grid system to get by. They're trying to upsell you. After all, they are sales people. Going off grid doesn't need to cost a fortune.

18.01.2022 Another tell-tale sign to know whether you are getting reliable advise or not is the terminology. I have often seen battery sizes being quoted in KiloWatts. This is incorrect. If you've been quoted on a battery in KW it's probably a sign to walk away. The correct terminology is KiloWatt Hours. This is the correct measurement of the size of the battery ie how much power you can use from it before it is flat. After all, KiloWatt Hours is the measurement that Ergon uses to sell us electricity, because this is the measurement for how much power you have used. 16.01.2022 When we were planning our off grid solar, I did all the usual things... Swap out all the lights for LED, swap out the hot water and oven for gas.. all those little things to help reduce consumption. Well, this morning the battery had finished charging by 11am. And our system wound back to only produce enough for the house's baseload supply. It seemed like such a waste as the sun was shining. Then I saw the dishwasher was half loaded. I thought, 'oh well, no reason not to' and turned on a half empty dishwasher haha. It's bizarre, literally looking for ways to use power.

It buys cheap power from the grid when there is an oversupply, and sells it back to the grid when prices are high and demand is high.
