25.01.2022 It’s the weekend and I’m making this beautiful and simple lemon tea cake. a) because it is one of our favorites and b) because this is Grace’s lemon tea cake from my first book. She’s on schoolies and this is as close today as me giving her a real hug might feel like. Happy Sunday everyone.

My two cookbooks are also available via our website. All other items are only available in store. Pic 1 was taken on the 19th of November 2014 when the shipment of my first book arrived. 18.01.2022 Wanting to say ‘hi’ & to ‘thank you’ & to see how you are doing too. I thought I would share with you where things seem to be at for me ..in case this helps anyone else out there going through a shit storm. I am well aware that what I’m experiencing is a form of grief. In the past week, I have slept a lot. I have cried a lot. I have walked a lot. I have then slept & cried a lot after returning home from said walks. I am also a grown woman covered in dog hair. Ned seems to i...ntuitively know that he is really needed & therapeutic. We’re about to rename him ‘shadow’. I accept that I simply couldn’t peddle anymore. I appreciate too that my warm home & family are the best healers of all. And now to this here weekend . I have called this the procrastination or distraction phase. I am sure it ain't over. I felt ‘okay’ today. A little better than before. In true Nellie style, I got to writing a to-do list. A therapist would have a field day. This to-do-list may have just been my best yet. When I read it out, Ava replied with ‘well, it's ambitious, but just get through what you can & good on you having some goals.’ Mikey replied with a huge ‘gaw-faw’ (rightly-so) and suggested that my list would take the best part of a week of weekends. . I know that distraction doesn't equal healing. Propelling yourself into a flurry of activity doesn’t help avoid or transcend grief. Perhaps today though, it was what was needed. . So, here's my good /bad (but funny) stuff to share from today: . ~Let gardening be your friend today. ~Play great music as you tend to the gardenyou will feel so many euphoric moments. ~Spotify can’t go rogue. It is time to take control of that friendly beast. Gardening to Maddison Ryan Ward, (whilst moving), you’ll cry into that baby cos & you never saw it coming. ~Lastly.& when you know you should call it a day, you reach for the high-pressure hose. That weapon is so cleansing & satisfying. The back of the house looks amazing but, I stand before you and advise strongly that aiming the hose, at your other hand to rid the cobwebs brushed off during the cleansing was going to burn like you had put that hand into a deep fryer. And that was Sunday. See more

11.01.2022 These pics are here for my own journal to what I wish to look back on through days like today where it actually felt harder than the day before. Because.... That’s not how it’s supposed to roll but it’s one day at a time and they don’t necessarily all improve. These pics are a journal of today and for reflection but also and especially for those going through and experiencing something very similar. You and I..... we are so loved and so my hope here is that you can feel it ....... as I can too.... despite the overwhelming emotions right now. A huge wave of love and kindness that I was not prepared for and as a customer (now friend) worded it today after sharing her own battles .... The feeling of support around you when you know you are facing one of the toughest moments in your life is really sustaining. Just want to personally wish you all love and a good night and a big thank you

05.01.2022 It feels like the right night to make tomato tart. The sun is back and in just one week, it will be Summer in this part of the world. Tomatoes are here and if we buy right, and even better, if we plant right, they will taste as a tomato should. There isn’t much better than a tomato that tastes like a real tomato and yup, it does make me sad that we even need to say that. So..yes it does feel like the right night to make tomato tart. Happy Meatless Monday beautiful frien...ds. I will type this family dinner recipe up for you this week & share. It’s only assembly & let those tomatoes take the glory. x See more

04.01.2022 One of the loveliest moments of 2020 was launching our spice range. Highlighting and offering the spices we love and that can make a huge impact to your finished dish. This Christmas, my ham glaze will include lemon myrtle. Considered the queen of the lemon herbs and the most popular native herb. It has an exquisite flavour and aroma which we describe as a blend of lemongrass, lime and lemon. What better time to celebrate this special indigenous ingredients than at Christma...s? Glazed hamServes 14+ with left oversFlavour must haves to balance a good glaze Sweet (eg. sugar, honey, maple, marmalade, jam and more)Spice (eg. cloves, lemon myrtle, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cardamom, peppercorn and more)Acid (eg. vinegars like apple, sherry, rice, wine and citrus such as lemon, lime and orange.Additions & options Soy, beer, bourbon, cider, mirin, mustard and moreFor the glaze:1/2 cup unsalted butter1 cup brown sugar1/2 cup maple syrup1 tablespoon Dijon mustard2 oranges, juiced60 ml soy sauce10-15 g lemon myrtle leaf5 g cinnamon8 kg cooked leg hamCloves for studding Let the ham sit out for 1 to reach room temperature. This will ensure even warming of the ham.Preheat oven to 190oC. Remove all of the shelves, if possible leaving only 1 shelf on the lowest rack. Remove skin from ham & discard but do leave the fat on. Score the fat in a diamond pattern by running the point of a knife over the surface of meat in a cross hatch formation. Ensure you only cut halfway through. Stud a clove in the middle of each diamond. Place the ham in a baking dish lined with a few layers of non stick baking paper. To make the glaze, heat the butter in a small pot or saucepan over medium heat until golden browned. Add in the brown sugar, maple syrup, mustard, orange juice, soy, lemon myrtle & cinnamon. Stir to mix together well until the brown sugar has completely dissolved, (about 2 minutes). Reduce heat to low. Allow the glaze to become fragrant & should be the consistency of room-temperature honey.Brush the ham with the glaze and bake for approx 40 minutes or until golden. Glaze the ham during cooking approxevery 10 minutes. 2 more sleeps See more
