25.01.2022 There is a need for Australia to shift to a circular economy to deal with its waste crisis. A circular economy is where the economy redefines growth by focusing on positive society wide benefits. A circular economy focuses on reducing waste and pollution, reuse products and finite resources and regenerating natural sources. Transitioning to a circular economy not only reduces the negative impacts of the economy but it encourages long-term resilience, creates economic opport...unities, provides environmental benefits and urges companies to become more responsible as to how their wastes are disposed. Transitioning to a circular economy proves to be a difficult task but nowhere near impossible. 25.01.2022 UK is currently taking the lead in meeting sustainable plastic targets! During a session at the National Plastics Summit in March, NEXTEK, a UK consultancy firm specialising in plastic packaging recycling, detailed what Australia could learn from the UK. NEXTEK believes that Australia must: - understand that the markets for recycled plastics can be created locally by supplying recycled content into the products created by brand owners and retailers.... - Have Strong government action to ensure that recycling markets can be found locally! - Clear and ambitious TARGETS for recycling of packaging and recycled content with tax implications for failure to meet the targets. - Brand owners need to break the link between the cost of virgin resin and the cost of high-quality recycled plastic to ensure sales are not hindered by old world, discard mentality! - Create packaging that is 100% RECYCLABLE. - Making recycling more productive and viable such as removing pigments from packaging. Today, UK are over halfway towards all their packaging being recyclable, and over half-way towards recycling 70 per cent of plastic packaging. Now this is the kind of news I want to hear! . . . . . #news #climatenews #plasticfreeliving #plasticpollution #killthelandfill #take3forthesea #reducereuserecycle #saynotoplastic #reducewaste #savetheearth #sustainableliving #saveourplanet #zerowaste #plasticbags #ecolife #plasticwaste #nature #plasticpackaging #saynotosingleuseplastic #plasticfree #plasticfreeoceans #microplastics #smallsteps #togetherwecan #nomoreplastic #pointlessplastic #healing #saveturtles #plastics #reduceplastic #recycledplastic #plasticsucks

25.01.2022 Every minute, almost two million single-use bags are distributed around the world; and 100 billion plastic bags are used every year within America. Although reusable bags are becoming more popular, plastic bags are still widely used and a major source of plastic waste. Plastic bags can get caught in machines within recycling facilities, meaning they cannot be recycled. However, you can take your soft plastics down to your local Coles or Woolworths and place them in a REDcyc...le bin. Here, they can be used as a resource to produce outdoor furniture or in roads. 25.01.2022 Some of us might do all the little things like separating our recyclables and non-recyclable rubbish and putting them in their respective bins to make ourselves feel good, thinking that were doing a little something to save our planet It is frustrating to know that most of the plastic we throw are not recycled. Instead most of the stuff we took effort for it to be recycled ends up at landfill and the ocean The main reason this occurs is due to the lack of a recycling... infrastructure in Australia. We lack the recycling facilities to recycle our plastic because we opt to invest in the purchase of new plastics from overseas due to it being cheaper than spending more money on recycling plastics. We should encourage our leaders to establish more of these facilities to reduce the plastic waste on our landfills and recycle them (Photograph by- Markus Spiske) sign our petition http://chng.it/CCVj5GjxJP To know more about the recycling crisis visit our website www.remadeinaustralia.com Like, Comment and Share our post. 24.01.2022 Plastic pollution is becoming a major problem in 2020. Plastic is an extremely versatile material with a wide range of consumer and industrial applications, but its imperative to look for more sustainable alternatives and rethink the way we produce, consume and dispose of plastic. The important message of this paper is that we cant keep polluting the oceans and hoping that technology will tidy up the mess, said researcher Dr Jesse F. Abrams. 24.01.2022 The Australian government has planned to ban the export of recyclable waste starting from January 2021, to reduce the amount of waste entering the ocean and environment. The initiative will begin with banning glass and continue with tyres, paper and plastics until all exports are banned by mid-2024 This process also involves supporting households to continue recycling and also encourage them to purchase recycled products. In addition, it is not only beneficial for the envir...onment, but will create more jobs within the industry. This is an opportunity for Australia to recycle our own plastic waste, which has the potential to be used in packaging within supermarkets! 24.01.2022 Although some measures have been taken to address the waste crisis, a lot still has to be done if Australia hopes to successfully transition into a circular economy and recycle locally. The WMRRA said in 2019 that it is a very difficult and long journey for Australia to establish an overall efficient recycling system. We, as the inhabitants of this country should not stand by and wait for our leaders to take action, we should contribute and help too Remade in Australia enc...ourages you to take action and question supermarkets whether the plastic packaging and products they use and sell are 100% recycled in Australia. 22.01.2022 More than 501 million kg of unwanted clothing ends up in landfills across the nation each year. This doesnt include the 94 million kg exported overseas. Theres a reason why textile waste is a growing problem and should be taken seriously: * Most of our clothing are made from single-use plastic bottles PET.... * About two-thirds of the worlds manufactured PET (approximately 50m tonnes) goes into clothing, with the remainder used to produce plastic packaging and plastic bottles. * Australians are the worlds 2nd HIGHEST per capita consumers of textiles. * Today, theres an incredibly LARGE gap between the amount of clothing made and the amount that is RECYCLED. Its time for bold action. The impact of textile waste is a reality and governments across Australia must recognize the challenge and begin to address it. 19.01.2022 Ever since several countries banned waste exports 3 years ago, it threw Australia straight into a waste crisis (The Conversation 2018). 88% of our plastic goes straight to landfill while in fact a lot of them are recyclable and could be reused to create new products and materials! One solution to get us out of this waste crisis is for Australia to set up more onshore recycling facilities to reprocess these plastics dumped in our landfill and oceans and STOP importing virgin... plastics from overseas. 19.01.2022 What can your recycled products become? We all know that recycling plastic waste is important, but do you actually know what it can be turned into? - Bottles and containers such as those used for shampoo, detergent and milk can be converted into a range of recycled products like outdoor furniture, playground equipment and recycling bins.... - Plastic bags (including those collected at REDcycle bins) can be converted into park benches, signage or asphalt additive. - Plastic water bottles can be converted into clothing like t-shirts, jackets and sweaters. 13.01.2022 There is a need to increase demand in our country for recycled products and materials! 13.01.2022 What exactly happens after we throw our recycled plastics in bins? Well, our plastic waste will be initially sorted accordingly to the type of plastic it is made of. Once sorted these plastics will be grounded into flakes and hot washed to remove the labels or any residue. Then, these plastic flakes will be dried, melted and formed into pellets. Once these pellets are formed, only then are we able to manufacture them into new products like carpets, mats, bottles, motor oil an...d pipes. Unfortunately, due to the lack of recycling facilities to process recycled plastics in Australia, most of our plastics are dumped in landfill and this creates a huge problem for Australias waste crisis. 03.01.2022 We currently live in a linear economy which involves buying and then disposing of everything we own. This is extremely wasteful and bad for the environment. A more effective system that we should strive towards is a circular economy, which maximises the use of resources and minimises waste. A circular economy involves recycling and reusing everything by creating safe and compostable materials so waste doesnt end up in landfill. Some of the key components of a circular econ...omy include: - Having zero waste: everything that is created within society is reused and recycled rather than sent to landfill - Consumables are made from biological materials and durables are made from technical nutrients - Renewable energy is used as it is more environmentally friendly We encourage you to contribute towards the vision of a circular economy by recycling and reusing as much as possible! 03.01.2022 Did you know that by 2030 it is predicted that the amount of plastic waste we generate will be doubled? A WWF global plastic report stated that Each day, each of us use 53 kilograms of plastic every year and generates a total of more than 300 million tonnes of plastic waste. There is a need to transition into a circular economy as a way forward where everything is made to be REUSED, according to Candice Quatermain, CEO of Cicular Economy Australia. Countries like Europe have... already taken such huge measures towards achieving a circular economy to tackle their plastic waste problem. Its essential for Australia to achieve circular economy and reduce the plastic waste in our landfill by recycling. Its critical for our country to stop the purchase of recycled plastics from overseas and encourage the purchase of locally recycled plastic goods. It is our responsibility to take care of our home.
