25.01.2022 My friend Dr Kevin Duong a 3rd generation TCM practitioner trained in Australia and China employs herbal pills, creams, powders and medicinal tea from specially grown and prepared herbs in addition to acupuncture, dietary advice and Tui Na. There are over 600 herbs in his dispensary. When consulting a patient and prescribing a herbal treatment, the patient's prescription is immediately sent to the dispensary appearing on the iPad for preparation. 24.01.2022 As though he could foresee the suffering I was to later endure, my old teacher Professor Lun Wong OAM, 9th dan Tang So Do, looked me in the eye, grasped my forearm with one hand and pushed my shoulder with the other and said, "Problem in arm...come from shoulder." Much later and five years into a strenuous career as a cleaner, symptoms of elbow pain began to dog me. Despite cortisone injections, acupuncture treatment, forearm & wrist stretches, and a reduced workload the cond...ition continued to deteriorate. Eventually, I said to my wife, "Honey, tomorrow these arms are going to lock up & I'll have to close the business." "Oh go see that massage lady I go to!" she said in exasperation. That massage lady kept me in the workforce. A big "Ahh Haa" moment for me, "Ohhhh...so that's what massage is!!!" Two years later I'm getting regular massage, have no pain and am still in the cleaning business. However, the niggles are still there. It was only after much pain, disability and thousands of dollars worth of massage that I finally remember my teacher's words, "Problem in arm...come from shoulder." What can I do? What can I do? OK...let's try stretching the shoulders. So, each day before getting in the ute, I jumped up to hang off the rafters in the garage. It had been a long time since I played on the monkey bars. At first the pain & tightness under the arms was too much to hang full body weight. After a week the pain disappeared and so did the niggles. Once again I was able to work at full capacity. As long as I kept stretching & loosening the shoulders I was good. This experience brought me to massage as a therapist today. It also taught me how blocked Chi circulation can affect adjacent regions of the body. Tightness due to injury, overwork, adverse weather, and emotional trauma blocks circulation. Tissue begins to thicken and harden causing pain and dysfunction and will not return to a healthy state until the blockage is cleared. 23.01.2022 Case Notes - Right Sided Lumbro-Sacral Symptoms, Short Right Leg Syndrome Lower limb symptoms resulting from Short Right Leg Syndrome are predominantly left sided. I observe something in the order of one in ten cases of acute lower limb symptoms that are right sided. The right sided case is more serious as lumbar disk bulges are part of the condition. This case is complex due to other conditions limiting the treatment I would prescribe. I have published these notes as I have ...Continue reading

A highly recommended experience. Two days instruction, meditation and four initiations/attunements, incorporating Aura-Soma. Maximum class size two students. Tuition includes two Reiki treatments conducted prior to the training. The Reiki Master is Japanese speaking and trained in Japan 20 years ago. Her lineage is four steps removed from the founder Dr Mikao Usui. This is likely to be the closest in this country to the original Japanese discipline and ethos of Reiki.

20.01.2022 Notes on Traditional Chinese Cupping truelocal.com.au/business/simon-crittenden/cockatoo Chinese cupping is about releasing myofascial tightness and removing stagnant circulation. 14.01.2022 There are a few therapists holding the view there is no such thing as bad posture and it is not our job as therapists to help our clients improve it. My response to one such comment... What a novel concept...no such thing as good or bad posture...it never occurred to me.. In my clinical practice it is rare I see a client with good/perfect posture...could almost count "good" ones on one hand. The rest of us "normal" specimens are dragging our carcasses through life hampered by... some postural issue or another that results in less than ideal function and may cause pain or injury. To start with most have tight chests restricting breath and medially rotating humerus >>> slightly impinging the Supra & Longhead Biceps tendons making them vulnerable to injury/degradation, it also exaggerates kyphosis and contributes to Forward Head Carriage >>> blocking energetic flow up the backline of the neck >>> tight occipital region >>> headaches plus even more sinister long term effects according to TCM. The affects of too much sitting and/or sleeping in foetal position on hips >>> tight hip flexors >>> bilateral forward hip rotation >>> excessive lordosis >>> lower back psin and a flow through affect on upper back and neck. More than 50% of my clients have Short Right Leg Syndrome which results in both hip rotation and tilt anomalies leading to some degree of scoliosis and all that goes with it plus energetic blocking down the back of the left leg >>> tightness, thickening in the fascia >>> restriction, pain and/or injury through glute, hami, calf, achilles and/or plantar fascia. It is never too late to do something about it. While the 90 year old with no hip rotation may not get those hips and legs to do more than swing back and forth propelling her to South Melbourne Market each market day...will never sit cross legged again...but she is able to keep upright and look straight ahead by working at it. She sort of forgot her daily exercise routine for awhile and started going downhill fast...wondered why she could not see where she was going, why it was getting harder to push the shopping jeep until she resumed her exercises and slowly became erect again. Yeah...the concept that there is no such thing as good or bad posture never occurred to me...there is a constant stream of problematic cases presenting in my clinical practice exhibiting classic poor postural characteristics that can be improved by treatment, stretching and strengthening. This is pretty clear cut to me. If you want to start considering the philosophical, emotional and spiritual aspects of our work as therapists we can find all sorts of alternative meaning to what is clinical practice and life...just do not lose sight of the basics. There is such a thing as poor posture and clients are motivated to correct it because of pain or injury.

14.01.2022 Regrettably, due to Stage 4 Restrictions I am unable to practice and will not be attending clinic. All appointments are cancelled until further notice. 12.01.2022 More and more frequently I am saying it is all about the energy flow when examining clinical cases. Some will be sceptical of energy concepts and that is OK. Several times now highly qualified practitioners in Western physical therapy have stated they do not believe in energetic principles and the effects I describe. I am quite surprised these science based practitioners resort to belief and dismiss my reports without testing the claims. I do not ask others to believe an unproven or nebulous philosophy...my reports are based on numerous first hand observations using physical assessment methods and palpation skills of muscle tone and posture. Regardless of the underlying reason chosen to support the observed effects, the observations still hold true.

12.01.2022 Discussing Carpal Tunnel with a massage therapist about their condition on a FB forum... "Problem in arm. Come from shoulder." Prof L. Wong OAM, 9th dan Tang So Do https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1732095486828992&id=350655411639680... The above link is my personal story about RSI but have found in clinic the same principle applies for Carpal Tunnel. As a therapist this is the primary treatment I apply... Shoulder Rx https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1571626399542569&id=350655411639680 The most recent case of carpal tunnel came to me to clear pain in back and shoulder. Required heavy pain killers to sleep. Also had Carpal Tunnel in both arms...shooting pain down arms and totally numb hands 24/7 for two years. Had no expectation Remedial Massage would do anything for the Carpal Tunnel and barely heard me when I said, "Yes...the pain in your shoulder can be relieved and most probably will clear the Carpal Tunnel symptoms too." One treatment cleared symptoms in left hand/arm. Right shoulder was the problem shoulder...took another three sessions to clear pain and resolve the numbness on the right side. Once this outcome has been achieved it is necessary to do ongoing mobility exercises and stretches daily for an extended time. Ultimately, frequency can be reduced but never entirely ceased; particularly if still undertaking regular work activities like typing, cleaning or massage therapy that contributed to the condition in the first place. There is a lot more to say about this case such as the first treatment was worse than the affliction. However, after a few days when the after effects of the treatment subsided and she realised how much better she was, she came back for more. The gristle like quality of tightness through the sinews of her shoulder and torso was not buried out of sight deep in the tissues as it normally is...hers was clearly evident through back, chest and the ribcage under arms. While a very good outcome was achieved in a few sessions, I have heard she has had a relapse and is now considering surgery. This client has lifestyle issues and I'm guessing not inclined to do regular rehab training sessions. I note your comment you have "had yours done." I presume that means you have had surgery. In some cases symptoms are not entirely relieved. Surgery does not treat the cause. The advice I give above is still applicable...although the "hanging off the rafters in the garage before driving to work" may not be possible for you now due to reduced grip strength as a result of the surgery. It is unfortunate medico's do not know the power of massage and physical therapy. Obviously, with the benefit of hindsight, the proper order of things should have been to ask this forum prior to surgery what do we do to treat Carpal Tunnel. Not come to us after getting surgery enquiring about recovery time. For that, ask your surgeon.

08.01.2022 Occasionally, symptoms experienced as a result of Short Right Leg syndrome are severe and have been ongoing for years. 06.01.2022 Examining Unilateral Anterior Hip Rotation - First Cardinal Sign, SRLS It is a fact the most common hip presentation is anterior rotation of the left hip with a level right hip. It is so common I call it normal. It is not good anatomical posture but it is normally what is seen in clinical practice. Anterior rotation of the hip functionally adjusts leg length. Rotation about the SIJ in the Sagittal plane causes the head of the femur to move posteriorly and superiorly, pulling ...the leg upwards. If leg lengths are structurally even, such an action would cause a tilt in the pelvis and result in mild scoliosis toward the side demonstrating rotation. The catch is, this is not what we see in clinical practice. We are presented with left sided anterior rotation but rather than the expected left leaning pelvic tilt and left leaning scoliosis, in virtually all cases I observe a right leaning condition. This can only happen if the right leg is structurally shorter than the left by an amount greater than the functional adjustment caused by the left hip’s anterior rotation. I propose the observed unilateral hip rotation occurs when the contra-lateral leg is structurally short. We feel uncomfortable with the tilt through our pelvis caused by the structural imbalance. By some mechanism the hip of the longer leg unconsciously flops forward functionally shortening the longer leg. This is an anatomic adjustment reducing the leg length difference. Typically, we are not aware of the compensatory action. It feels more comfortable and it protects the spine. This is good but chronic hip rotation tightens the heavily bound ligamental structure and cartilage of the SIJ and can lead to other issues. This proposal is supported by my observation the postural hip anomaly will resist attempts to normalise its position through treatment and rehabilitation exercise/stretching until an adjusting prosthetic wedge is inserted beneath the heel of the structurally short leg.

Deep Tissue Therapy stirring deep recesses of our flesh releases toxins into the blood stream and may cause feeling of unwellness until eliminated by ki...dneys. Generally occurs morning after 1st massage...drink plenty water. Tight muscles released will be sore for few days. When pain passes condition, strength & flexibility will be improved. 04.01.2022 In my time I have received energetic healing treatment from a gifted Pranic healer, the Light Staff of MSIA, a 14th generation Dao Yin Chi Gong Master and most recently a Reiki Master trained in Japan. Enormously powerful and beneficial. I would be unable to do what I do without it. As I transition from high intensity athletics to a more sedate pace, the universe has once again directed me to a teacher for guidance. I commence Reiki training.

04.01.2022 Second Level Energetic Effects from SRLS I have been studying Short Right Leg Syndrome (SRLS) for five years and have only just become aware of a phenomena I describe as the Second Level Energetic Effect. Prior examination and treatment focused on obvious dysfunction, pain and injury down the backline of the lower limbs due to postural anomalies causing an energetic block at the SIJ or lumbro-sacral region...this is the First Level. However, clients are unexpectedly reporting... increased vitality after commencing use of an adjusting heel lift. I too have experienced the same. I now consider there is an energetic block restricting meridian Chi flow and circulation to the lower limbs due to soft tissue stress/tightness caused by right leaning pelvic tilt, anterior rotation of the left hip, and anti-clockwise rotation of the spine from SRLS. It is a fundamental principle of Traditional Chinese Medical philosophy tightness in the soft tissue blocks energetic flow. Hence, it is reasonable to expect energetic flow through the Kidney, Urinary Bladder, Liver, Gall Bladder, Stomach and Spleen meridians passing through the pelvis to the lower limbs of the body will be affected...reducing Chi flow in these meridians and having a subtle effect on health and vitality. From another perspective, energetic centres at the Root, Sacral and Plexus Chakras are located in the lower torso. The vitality of these centres too is being inhibited with a detrimental effect on health and vitality. I have personally experienced this, measured it with a Healy resonance treatment device and had a Reiki Master comment on it. I have a short right leg. I have been experiencing Kidney Yin Deficiency since my teens and treated by TCM practitioners since the age of 23. It was suggested by one practitioner it is a congenital condition. I suggest it may also be due to the effect of SRLS. Owing to the Pendulum Effect causing rigidity at the right hip, there is a sidedness to this phenomena in the cases I have sighted. Circulation issues are more common in the right leg than the left. I cannot yet place too much importance on this observation because case numbers examined so far are limited. In low level cases of SRLS with no compounding lumbro-sacral injury factors, individuals manage life but with less than ideal health; eg, my Kidney Yin Deficiency condition. However, where there are compounding factors, major debilitating symptoms develop potentially restricting mobility and vitality accompanied by painful lower limb symptoms, circulation & fluid retention issues and potentially a raft of digestive and health complaints. It is complex and one really needs to be a Traditional Chinese Medical practitioner to fully understand and appreciate the ramifications.

When leaning back armrest is perpendicular to the spine crossing the middle Thoracic. The first attempt took my breath away...high pain...sit up, get my breath back and then try again...same result but a little further back. Thirty minutes of repetitions and I am completely back over the arm, head and shoulders hanging down, arms over head, pain and tightness TOTALLY gone, breath improved...anterior tissues stretched and lengthen, posterior tissues allowed to return to a position of rest. I do this regularly now...several times a week...slight pain for a few moments immediately relieved...push it much further deeper lower now. Highly therapeutic. See more
