22.01.2022 You go and get your horse out of the paddock and it’s a bit ‘bouncy’. At this point you have a choice. You can bring the horse in, tack up and probably have an awful ride, we’ve ALL been guilty of this, I know I have. OR...you can put your trainer brain on instead of your rider brain and start ground work right there. Most of us have a distance to walk from the paddock to where we tack up. USE that travel time. Walk, halt, walk, slow walk, halt, back up etc etc. Just as you w...ould when riding use your transitions to bring your horses attention onto you. Use this time to observe their reactions to your aids. Use this time to correct and reward. Use this time to decide if today will be a ground work day instead of a ridden day. You’re training your horse from the moment you put the halter on in the paddock. Even if my horses are quiet I always check in with them on the walk in from the paddock with some transitions. It’s become a good habit now and often shapes the work we’ll do on that day. See more

22.01.2022 Really worth considering if you're thinking of pulling your horse out of the paddock for a day at pony / riding club or a competition.

21.01.2022 If you'd like me to come to your riding club and have a chat about bits shoot me a message! I'm also available weekdays and weekends for private bitting consultations.

19.01.2022 Here in sunny Gordon it's reached a top of about 8 degrees today with a 'feels like 3' note on my weather app. Imagine my surprise and delight when I head up in the rain and the wind to feed my dear horses and the nearly 17.2hh Legs greets me with this....'it just 'sploded mum'! AGH!! Fortunately I think he had a) just done it and b) only broken one leg strap in the process. Share your 'why do I have horses again' photos and stories below and make me feel better?!

19.01.2022 Hilarious message from a lovely client tonight: "I said I won’t get a new horse if hubby says one more horse & it’s a divorce. Hubby says he won’t divorce me but no more horses. That’s a door pretty much open." Who can relate?!

18.01.2022 Hi all, I'll be offering some mailing list only offers in the coming days so please shoot me a message here with your email address if you'd like to be on the mailing list and I'll make sure you're added. These offers won't be available to those not on the mailing list. I hope you're all staying safe and well in these challenging times x

18.01.2022 Regional Victoria, we're back! Barring any changes in COVID restrictions I'm back coaching and training. I'm able to travel regularly both locally, based in Gordon near Ballarat, and up to an hour away (I’m regularly in Lara etc). Also available for clinic days to other locations. * Rider position * Float loading * Ground work... * Foal handling/halter and lead training * Confidence challenges * XC fence troubles water/ditches etc both in hand and under saddle * First outings * OTT horses both stb/tb (HERO re-trainer for stbs) All levels catered for, no challenge you’re having is too small. Many of you will be bringing horses back into work post winter/lockdown and may be looking for those eyes on the ground. I come to your home or to local grounds, whatever you’re more comfortable with. I coach with a calm, clear and consistent approach to training with a few laughs along the way, tears are also able to be dealt with! I'm available both weekdays and weekends within an hour of Gordon, Vic. COVID restrictions observed, if you’re not well on the day please cancel rather than push on. Stage 4 locations unable to be attended at this time. Feel free to message or call on 0459190433 with any queries.

17.01.2022 I know in the past I've really annoyed Pony Club parents and students when I won't let their children jump higher until they can control their horse or ponies stride coming into and heading away from a jump. How high they jump being some measure of 'success'. Sure, they can muddle their way through to an extent doing this at the lower heights (less than 50cm as a rough guide) but once the heights increase it becomes a very serious safety risk in my opinion. Safety for our young riders absolutely must be a priority.

17.01.2022 The anatomy of the hoof has always fascinated me. This is a great video showing just how detailed it is. I'm currently dealing with a challenging hoof issue with one of my own horses which I hope to share with you shortly. As difficult as it is to manage it's also an incredible learning experience!

16.01.2022 It takes a village. Today I was camera-woman and translator for this remote lesson. So much fun, plus, what's not to love about Susannah the donkey!?

12.01.2022 Yesterday I saw a video of a foal being halter trained and was appalled. There are lots of foals having their first taste of training at the moment in the Southern Hemisphere and I can't stress how important this training is. The video showed a foal being pulled along by the trainer. When its feet moved the trainer continued to pull. When the foal didn't want to leave the mare the trainer continued to pull. When the foal led in a better way, the trainer continued to pull. Wh...Continue reading

12.01.2022 I'm super excited to share some news with you. 2021 will see a new challenge and some changes to the way I work. I'll still be regularly coaching but am also about to be a Bit Bank Australia- For Horse Bits Accredited Bit Fitter! As many of you who've ridden with me will know I've always been passionate about ensuring bits fit, they're appropriate for your chosen discipline/riding level and they're well crafted. After all, these are pieces of metal in our horses' mouths, we ...want them to be comfortable. I'm having a blast increasing my learning around anatomy, different bit types and how the correct bit can increase your horses' rideability for any discipline. I'll be available in my normal areas, within an hour of Ballarat roughly as well as available for day bookings across Western and Central Victoria. If you've queries for other areas please let me know and I can direct you to someone who can assist you. I'll also be available for free talks on bitting to Adult Riding Clubs and Pony Clubs with talks appropriately age focussed. Group bookings at your agistment, club or home property are happily catered for. I'll have a wide range of bits available for you to try on the day, I can already see the purchasing of bits will become an obsession! I'll advise of a Facebook page in due course but for now feel free to contact me for a club or private booking in the New Year via this page.

12.01.2022 Float loading troubles? Foal ready for halter and lead training? Confidence challenges? Riding position struggles? Are you transitioning a horse off the track (tb or stb)? Are you returning to riding after a break? Do you have a horse who doesn't like water/ditches or some other XC fence? Are you looking for a calm, clear and consistent approach to your training? If you've answered yes to any of these questions I'm more than happy to help! I'm available both weekdays and weekends within an hour of Gordon, Vic (near Ballarat). Regularly in Lara on a Wednesday and other areas by arrangement. Feel free to message me or call on 0459190433.

10.01.2022 January 1 is the start of an exciting new adventure. I'm love you to pop over and give the page a 'like', particularly if you're in Western/Central Vic and would like to find out more!

10.01.2022 This was so much fun to be a part of. My lovely client Mandy and the amazing Louise Sedgman Equine Photography combined to create these gorgeous imagines. I can't recommend Louise enough, a photo shoot with her may be a lovely thing to look forward to at the end of this awful time.

09.01.2022 Here's a new venture of mine. It's something I think is incredibly important for all horse owners. For my wonderful Australian followers I'd love you to have a read through :)

08.01.2022 Gorgeous baby Spice enjoying his lesson break this morning by playing with my gloves. He’s learning to have a halter on and off, be touched all over, lead and pick up his feet and is a star pupil. He’s also super cute!

06.01.2022 It was great to be out working again today. What could top your day more than handling a three week old Clydesdale filly? Isn’t she just delicious. Thank you to her owners for letting me share her photos.

04.01.2022 My dear friend Tanya has just launched this wonderful new business. Please go and check it out. We've had many fascinating discussions about the healing power of horses throughout her intensive study. I can't wait to watch her fly!
