25.01.2022 As you open your windows this summer, be alert to window safety if children are in your home. A number of children fall from windows or balconies in Australia e...ach year, with children under 5 being most at risk. If you live in a strata scheme, window safety devices must be installed on all applicable windows by 13 March 2018. Residents with safety devices installed can still fully open their windows but it’s recommended that devices be engaged whenever children are present, to prevent falls. 07.01.2022 In March 2013 NSW introduced a legislation requiring certain strata windows to be protected with a child safety lock. The deadline has now passed with many compliant buildings now protecting young children from dangerous falls through open windows. The Department of Fair Trading NSW are now imposing heavy fines for non compliance.... 03.01.2022 In 2013, amendments to the Strata Schemes Management Act 1996 (NSW) were passed into law, stipulating that strata-managed residential buildings are required to fit certain windows with safety devices for restricting openings to 12.5cm. The owners corporation is responsible (and therefore liable for fines if compliance is not met by the 2018 deadline) for ensuring these requirements are met. The Department of Fair Trading NSW are now imposing heavy fines for non compliance....
