22.01.2022 Replacing a PLC with a simple logic sequence using a SICK encoder and an Autonics counter/timer unit. Below is our Application Engineer Tony Wilson setting up a programmable incremental encoder, the SICK DFS60B to be displayed on an Autonics CX6M display unit. Heading up to a customer in Albury, Tony was ensuring that the counting function could be set from a display unit. This allows for a simple positioning system so that the unit can count down accurately from a defined va...lue. Before sending it off to the customer, the encoder is completely customisable and to ensure that noise did not affect the system, Tony programmed a low pass filter to ensure that bandwidth was set up to minimise any disturbances that may affect the count value. Quick and simple customer service. www.remtron.com.au #SICK #Autonics #customerservice #Remtron See more

21.01.2022 Whilst light curtains have been around for over 70 years, advancements in technology now allow for complex applications whilst maintaining high levels of safety. From the first wooden models presented in 1951 by Dr. Erwin Sick to what we see today, light curtains can now be configured so that there is no need for complex automation systems. Examples include recognising of certain patterns on a conveyor line to allow safe operation to continue rather than stopping production. ...In this case, we would recommend a combination of safety products from SICK wired directly into an ABB machinery drive with inbuilt safety functions such as Safe Stops( STO), Controlled Safe Stops (SS1) and Safe Limited Speeds (SLS). If networked, information can be sent to any existing PLC’s or SCADA systems alerting personnel of what has happened. 19.01.2022 Tomorrow’s Grand Final Eve has now become ‘Thank You Day’ in Victoria to show gratitude to all Victorians for making sacrifices to help contain the spread of coronavirus. We wanted to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to our staff for all their efforts over the last couple of difficult months. We would also like to extend a thank you to our customers and suppliers for their continued support over this period and look forward to a covid free future.

19.01.2022 We believe our customers are an extension of our family here at Remtron. We know 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected. It's important to talk to your family, friends & work colleagues and reach out to someone who is doing it tough. #remtron #ruok? https://www.ruok.org.au/

17.01.2022 No space for your next variable speed drive installation? How about in the roof space? We make variable speed drives fit anywhere! A great article below on how Remtron’s Alex Weymouth designed a unique solution for a customer. https://www.linkedin.com//rittal-anz_rittal-remtron-climat www.remtron.com.au #Remtron #Rittal #climatecontrol

15.01.2022 Shaft alignment tolerances Sometimes it’s the little things that count. Our tech tip today comes from Matthew Woodroffe. At high RPM, the little things can make a substantial difference to the operation of critical machinery. Laser Alignment, Precision Shim's and skilled tradespeople all help in keeping infrastructure running. The photos show a motor being re-aligned using precision shims (Note the non precision 'shim'). 09.01.2022 Introducing the new range of SICK safety relays (ReLy)! For our existing UExx customers, SICK is introducing a new and improved safety relay. Not only slimmer within the cabinet but also easy to wire (and replace if ever required). If you’re looking add safety to your existing solution and running out of cabinet space, ReLy may be the answer. See below on the benefits of the new SICK ReLy safety relay and contact Remtron for all your machine safety needs. We have experts that can offer advice on how to plan your next installation, including any mechanical safety guarding with Axelent products. www.remtron.com.au #Remtron #Sicksensorintelligence #safetyrelays #safety #maintenance #Axelent https://www.remtron.com.au//7-/sick-rely-safety-relays.pdf

07.01.2022 The quickest way to set up an Allen Bradley PLC with B&R X20 Remote IO with Ethernet IP is by using Automation Studio with System Designer and selecting the Generic Ethernet IP CPU as the Allen Bradley CPU. From then on, select the Ethernet IP X20 bus controller and then just drag and drop the rest of the IO system and build! It will create an L5k file that you can drag into your AB software platform and then configure like IO system. The X20 IO system from B&R is plug and play with Allen Bradley CPU’s and offers compact remote IO solutions for an absolute fraction of the price. 05.01.2022 How do you reduce your energy bill and carbon footprint in water and waste water applications? Pumps, motors and aerators are the largest energy consumers. We can show you how to increase your overall electrical system efficiency by 20% with drives, motors and digital solution. We are also specialised in power quality and can provide advice in ensuring that you are running your operations as smooth as possible. If you have existing equipment and would like to know if you can ...further save on running costs, we can also assist. As an ABB Drives Water partner, we have just significantly increased our stock holdings significantly of all ACQ580 Water drives including Ultra Low Harmonic variants. Take a look below on an article below by ABB addressing specific issues such as finding your best efficiency point on a pump curve. 02.01.2022 Let’s face it, we now live in a world where working from home and remote access is a standard. COVID has taught us new ways to adjust and continue working as best as possible. Today’s tech tip comes from Domenic Orlando who had a large end user in the beverages industry. Due to COVID restrictions, they urgently needed a quick solution to monitor production from home and were unable to arrange anything through the highly firewalled 3 layer network security system administered... by the IT department. Domenic was able to set up a SECOMEA industrial IOT gateway which enabled cloud access through the network (or a SIM card) for quick and easy access to industrial devices within minutes. 02.01.2022 IOT does not necessarily mean expensive connectivity options. Here’s a nifty way to achieve cloud monitoring of multiple remote devices using the LoRa network. Did you know by using the ISM band (International Science and Medical band at 916Mhz), we’re able to communicate from many remote sites up to 10km away without any WiFi signal, repeaters or Internet connectivity. All you need is a 24V DC power connection on site and a gateway located up to 10km away (with an internet ...connection of course) . We’ll soon be releasing a short demonstration video on how a multi pump system with ABB Drives and SICK Instrumentation can be monitored remotely through a cost effective cloud solution. www.remtron.com.au #ABBDrives #SICK #SickInstrumentation #IOTSolutions #RemtronTechTip Learn more https://youtu.be/3cIGzwH-NI8

01.01.2022 Today’s Tech Tip comes from our Drives Application Engineer, Anthony Merrett who says its actually quite easy to configure nearly 90% of your ABB Drives without having to be on site or waiting for 415V power to be connected. This is handy when communication is required to an onsite PLC or the site does not have power yet. 01.01.2022 At Remtron, we always recommend that the harmonics be considered as part of the Power Factor when designing a Power Quality solution. It is so often easily overlooked. Harmonic Mitigation The use of active harmonic mitigation is becoming commonplace in the market place and has been mandated by AS3000 since 2007. With the increase of non-linear loads such as modern lighting, inverter/variable speed drives, and switch-mode power supplies, it is now common that high harmonic ...voltage levels are present. These harmonic voltages cause equipment designed to operate at 50Hz to behave differently. They can result in premature failure of capacitive Power Factor systems, unstable and unpredictable equipment operation, high internal component temperatures and in very poor cases even infrastructure failure. Active Harmonic Filters take non 50Hz components and by way of inverted addition claim that energy back in phase with the 50Hz supply. (They operate a bit like noise cancelling headphones). This in-phase addition is considered a linear load at unity power factor and therefore improves the overall True Power Factor of the site. www.remtron.com.au #RemtronTechTipTuesdays #ABB
