25.01.2022 A quick overview of my exhibition in Clarkson.
24.01.2022 I managed to put a very basic video clip together today of how I stretch watercolour paper prior to painting. I think I'll do another longer one later though as I'm sure there are questions that aren't answered in this one.
23.01.2022 Progress shots of my latest jumping spider painting. It's the same spider I painted last week, but from a different angle this time. Many thanks to Narko Tick for the reference photo.
22.01.2022 Snippets of my exhibition prior to the guests arriving.
22.01.2022 It was nice to be outdoors today, painting and sketching at the beautiful #waldeckskingsley with my painting students. I need to go back and get some more photos, plants for home, and an almond milk cappuccino! And I reckon there might be some cute little spiders about, too (there were some webs here and there).
21.01.2022 Today I started painting a swift spider which I photographed a few years ago. This one was in my garage but they are usually found in leaf litter, tree bark or on the ground. Here are some progress shots. I'm wondering if I should include a background?
19.01.2022 Must be summer. These little Christmas spiders are being spotted out and about. I really love their colours, patterns and funny little bumps.
19.01.2022 Yep, you should see my back fence!
18.01.2022 The one and only logo I've ever designed was for Aussie Redback Tours. It really does stand out and I've often spotted tourists taking photos of it. If you look carefully you'll see that the red on the back of the spider is the map of Australia.
17.01.2022 Open and shut. Only spider spotters would have picked that this little patch is home to a trap door spider. Thankfully I had trapdoor spider expert, Dr Leanda Denise Mason point this one out to me or I would have stepped right over it.
12.01.2022 "Sheldon". I finally got to finish this cute little jumping spider today. I think I had way too much fun drawing on all those little hairs at the end! Many thanks to Narko Tick for the reference photo.
11.01.2022 Wow, spiders never cease to amaze me!
07.01.2022 Ready for my next painting. Jumping spiders are still my favourites. Maybe it's the eyes!
05.01.2022 Happy Halloween - a great day for spiders! Enjoy your day!
05.01.2022 "Sheldon 2" - another side to the jumping spider I posted last week. I hope I captured his inquisitive look. Many thanks to Narko Tick for the reference photo.
05.01.2022 Such a lovely turnout at my exhibition opening yesterday. I am so appreciative of all my supporters who came along to celebrate the occasion with me. It means more than you realise. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
04.01.2022 "Katie" - a female Nyssus albopunctatus (white spotted swift spider) found in my garage. She must have been on a journey to a new home because these spiders are usually found in leaf little or under tree bark.
02.01.2022 Counting down to the opening. Just nine and a half hours away!
02.01.2022 I love zooming right in on my paintings, just to see the texture of the paper and the separation of paint. On my painting, this little spider is no bigger than a centimetre, yet the painting itself is about 60 cm x 60 cm. It's now finished (see second pic), complete with a couple of fun sentences. It's off to the framer tomorrow and once framed, it will find a special place in my living room.
01.01.2022 Such a privilege to have my favourite trapdoor lady pop in to my exhibition on Saturday.
