It's been a few months since I had seen her because of Corona, but the last 2 weeks have been really lovely. Ivy is very tolerant of my photo taking, and Luna the kitten is settling into having an energetic little person around occasionally and we have loads of fun for the morning! 21.01.2022 I had some friends over on the weekend to chat all things #plasticfreejuly which was really lovely and lots of fun to share tips and ideas! One of the things I love to encourage people to do regardless of whether you are trying to become plastic free or not is to look at ways you can reduce ALL packaging in your life. Just because it can be recycled, doesn't mean you shouldn't look for other options! Canned goods are a huge use of resources and in lots ...of cases you are paying for a high % of water to be shipped around the country / world and to your kitchen. So - how can you reduce this usage? My fave tip is to make your own coconut butter / paste. You simply blend desiccated coconut until it becomes liquid. Put it in a jar and add a spoonful along with some water each time you need coconut milk or cream. No need for cans and cans of it in your pantry, one jar can last months. Tips: A Vitamix or powerful blender helps. Otherwise you will need to rest your blender every few minutes, it will take time with a standard blender, but it's not impossible. Keep it in the pantry, no need for the fridge. The coconut butter will go hard in cold weather. Simply put it in a bowl of warm water to soften if needed or just scrape it from the jar with a knife. Eat it from a spoon - it's delicious! Add to curries, smoothies or to rice when you are steaming it. Organic coconut is best - no yucky preservatives! I get mine from @honesttogoodnessau When I made my batch on the weekend I added a few extras to half of it to make some coconut fudge. Goji Berries, teaspoon of maple syrup, vanilla. Look at those blues and the green & purple ... Pic 2 - behind the scenes with Loopy Luna! She loves delivery day as much as I do ;) There must be something lovely in cardboard and brown paper that smells and tastes good and sends animals crazy! Better than the toys I pay for! She zoomed around for an hour with the paper and inside the box and has now collapsed on my desk for a sleep. See more
