It can become overwhelming at times, attempting to do everything and be everything to everyone. I reckon we need to start by looking at what I call the 3c’s to our success: Confidence... Confidence and courage come from being aware of who you are, your abilities and openness to learn and grow and use past experiences to progress forward. Capacity Identify the time you have and budget your energy to focus on the right things. Capability Tap into your skills, motivations and competencies and look at areas you can grow in. Take the time to look at each area and know that they are all interlinked. We need to take the time to recalibrate and ensure we know where we sit in each of the 3 C’s. 17.01.2022 Stop and smell the roses (or carnations in this case) is something I often hear my Mum and late mentor Sue Kelly say. Not being a still person in any way I find it hard to switch off and this photo of me at 18 months old reinforces the child like wonder in all of us and the innate accessibility we all have to be able to switch off. We all have circuit breakers that can become like bookend habits to switch off after a big day, week or year. Maybe it’s your children, your ho...bbies, your passions or self-care. This will be different for everyone. For me it’s cooking, writing, reading or hitting the beach, something I’m about to do, it’s time to switch off and tap into The Gift of Re-energising. What are 3 key things you are focusing the majority of your energy, time and headspace on? 1. You can break this out at a professional and personal level. 2. Can these things be improved on and are you in control of them? 3. Are these things out of your control and can only be worried about without any chance of a positive outcome? Brené Brown’s extensive research on vulnerability has bought to light its importance. We need to peel back the layers and understand our fears and feelings these are connected to every success or challenge we experience. 11.01.2022 # - Over the next 7 weeks, we will reveal the top 7 barriers that can prevent us from adopting a Gift Mindset and, therefore, creating a Gift Mindset Culture in the workplace. Over the years, working across many industries at all levels, I have seen what gets in the way of people adopting the Gift Mindset. Moving from suppressing to expressing our lessons in the workplace is vital in bringing our gifts to life. So wh...at gets in the way? our level of awareness of the gift our willingness to express the gift to ourselves and others We have all had times or situations in our lives where we suppress what’s really going on and internalise it. Suppression is usually ineffective over the long term and can quickly become a coping mechanism that we default to. When we fail to uncover, accept and express our lessons, we also fail to share them. Some of the reasons this can happen include a lack of awareness, inability to articulate what we have learnt and uncertainty about who we should share it with. We can also suppress things that remind us of previous experiences or memories. We really need to move from suppressing our gifts to going to a state of distress, where we may feel anxiety, even pain if the gift has come from a challenge. Once we deal with this, we can digest and understand the gift through reflection, which increases our self-awareness and acceptance. Then, and only then, are we ready to express it.
