17.01.2022 W H O / W H A T D R I V E S Y O U R P A S S I O N ?? .. This is my (grand)mas brother, my great uncle. His name is George, but Ive always called him Uncle Freddie ( I THINK his middle name is Fred). Anyway.. weve always had a connection I couldnt explain and Id always considered him my favourite of the great aunts/uncles. And sending him off today back to his home in NZ I finally found out why...... As we caught up in the check in line and over breakfast in the food court, he started with a small comment about womens sport being televised more and more these days. He was easing into it, I thought. We chatted more he reminisced about his days playing footy which I knew nothing about. Hed earnt jerseys Id never heard of and played in comps I was too young to know anything of. He even shared the days he coached first grade and we shared mutual stories about how teammates just need that one voice to get them motivated and working. What I realised was that this whole time we were connected through our passion for footy and more generally, sport. It was then that I developed an even bigger appreciation for my Uncle Freddie and also a deeper drive to work towards my goals in footy. I promised him as I watched him depart that Id be sure to send him this photo and that Id let him know if we were ever playing on the tv. "Womens sport has come a long way," he said to me, "I know Ill be watching you on there soon." 15.01.2022 A moment of candid reflection . Two weeks ago today I was tackled at training which resulted in a slight headache. Not thinking much of it, I continued training, played in the Opal Bowl (GridironNSW's Female Grand Final), and spent the next week feeling below par, irritable, sad, and random headaches which were not a part of my daily life previously. . It wasn't until Tuesday night at training this week (a week and a half later), I spoke to our club physio explaining my ...symptoms and he referred me to the club Doctor to talk about my potential concussion. . It is validating to know that my state for over a week - which is what lead me to chat about it with the physio in the first place - WAS as a result of being concussed that Thursday evening two weeks ago. My instincts were right. It's not so much the Dr saying he was comfortable to confirm I had a concussion... The validation comes from my self-trust in my instincts and it being right. . Bank on yourself and you'll receive an exponential ROI (Return-On-Investment). . This part of being an athlete is frustrating... Preseason has been difficult for my body: Lower back, quad, hamstring, bone bruising, and now coming off a concussion. I've spent a lot of time at training away from the majority of the group due to not being able to train at 100%. A LOT. . Sometimes it's about changing the narrative of your internal dialogue from Why is this happening to me? to What do I need to learn from this? . For me, it was focussing on the areas of my body that were neglected over a long period of time due to repetitive movements. It was rewiring my inner voice to be kind to myself and see what opportunities were there. It was being grateful for the messages my body was sending telling me I needed to do things differently. . I've removed the word failure from my vocabulary and it has been replaced by feedback. Because there are only lessons, there are no losses. . So here I am after 10+ hours of driving in 30 hours saying that I am grateful for all those people that are close to me in my life and support my goals, dreams and passions. 12.01.2022 Im sitting on the edge of 25 and the last two weeks have been a bit touch-and-go with me considering my career choices and my achievements in life thus far. I sometimes struggle, feeling lost and unable to fathom the right direction for my life... But then I stumbled on this article and I must say, it was an extremely pleasurable and uplifting read. It has helped transform my way of thinking from what I havent done yet, to what I am still capable of achievingthat being, an...ything I invest my passions, effort and time into. With that said, theres always been a little whisper hiding from sight in my mind telling me to pursue something in the fitness industry (especially considering I have spent my life playing sport), and now with the subtle signs that have presented themselves to me while I was soul-searching, Im well prepped for a start in a different area. And even though Im scared, I also know that my doubt and fear are the only things keeping me from my potential. I may not be the best (yet) at being a sportsperson or a fitness junkie, or anything in the industry for that matter, but what I do have is, "A coat, a hat, and a gun" and with these things I am planning to make the most of what I can with the skills I have now. 05.01.2022 Our first tournament in new team colours and I couldnt be more ecstatic to bring home the win being my first ever 9s tournament also. So humbled and overjoyed to have signed to a team (and club) that is as welcoming, determined and committed to seeing the success of our team come into fruition as Cabramatta Leagues Club is.
