23.01.2022 ‘Light That Heals’ was produced for author Donna Fisher a couple of years ago. It was one of those projects where you just want to do a good design because the client is so nice and believes in you.

22.01.2022 In November 2019 I was in Brisbane for the annual Australian Graphic Design Association awards. As an AGDA Hall of Fame Committee member it was an honour to present the work of, and induct two new HoF inductees to the 350 designers who were in the audience: Gert Sellheim (1901-1970) and Lynda Warner (1953- ). Google their work. Congrats to my HoF Committee colleagues Rita Siow and Dominic Hofstede, and the AGDA event team for a great night.

20.01.2022 Such strange days. The Covid-19 pandemic is a truly awakening crisis, and for those that embraced creativity around ‘disruption’, well you couldn’t ask for a better environment to grow your ideas. Between studio projects I’ve been working on a series of Covid-19 posters. The fonts are mostly my designs that are still in development, with a couple of faves in there too. 11.01.2022 When I was head of Design at Billy Blue Group (Billy Blue Creative) I designed ads and garment designs for Hamilton Island’s Resort Store, using my ‘tropical’ brush and ink drawings. Ross Renwick did the whimsical copywriting and I did the brand graphics and typography. About 35 years ago now, but still looking fresh.

05.01.2022 Radiant Flux is an immersive installation by conceptual artist Rebecca Baumann. Using dichroic film on all windows of the enormous Carriageworks space, the effect is both dramatic and subtle. The effects can’t be captured adequately with an iPhone, but you have to give it a go.

04.01.2022 That 10 years when I (and a great team) managed the graphic branding of NSW Police Citizen Youth Clubs and its 53 clubs through the first decade of the new millennium ... new logo, sports branding, stationery, newsletters,garments, livery, posters, club signs, and 10 annual reports.

02.01.2022 Vale Deb Brash So sad to hear that Deborah Brash died this week. One of Australia’s great book designers and creative mentor to many while at Penguin Australia, Murdoch Books, and in her own practice.

01.01.2022 A small part of a large brand project for Connect Child and Family Services in Sydney's Blue Mountains. Our strong rebrand, with customized graphics and clean typography, unite several services at many locations.

01.01.2022 Just back from several weeks in Denmark and Sweden. It was disappointing that there was no snow, but good to walk easily around in a cool environment, away from 45C Sydney ... though the heat was still hanging around when we returned. Checked out some terrific graphic, environmental and interior design, architecture, bookshops and cafés. It’s in the cafés that the joy of ‘slow living’ is experienced, and there’s time to observe the design of local print design like brochures,... art catalogues, magazines, books and newspapers. Scandi editorial design is usually elegant and brilliant: Much of the great and varied newspaper design is created daily, even though you would think it needed a week or even a month to have the typography, photo crops, other images, graphics and layouts work as well as they do. And all serve the articles. The Danish daily ‘Politiken’ is just astonishing. Black, red and space are beautifully used throughout the editorial pages. Søren Nyeland has been Design Editor of Politiken since 1997. Must be a tight design team. See more
