15.01.2022 The dos and don’ts of financing your renovation. Consider the following dos and don’ts before you begin your home renovation. Do talk to your local real estate agent to see what potential buyers are looking for in a home in your area. This way you can avoid adding features that over value your home for your area.... Do know your limit when it comes to how much you can afford to spend on your renovation. Then add another 20% to your budget for those unexpected costs that will happen. Do try adding street appeal by changing the garage door, adding a coat of paint or tidying up the garden and lawns can give your home that fresh look and add value. Don’t use plastic to fund your renovation. If you don’t have the cash use the equity in your home. It can make the difference between paying 3% or 19% for the loan. Don’t try and do the renovation yourself. Unless you are an expert it can end up costing more in the long run. Also, a DIY can be more expensive to fund through your bank. Don’t cut corners. Whilst it is smart to be as cost effective as possible when renovating, quality work adds value to your home and will end up costing you less in the long run.
04.01.2022 Hi everyone. I set up this page as a way of sharing information and ideas with people who are looking to fund a home renovation. After renovating and building several homes myself over the years and advising many of my clients on how to finance theirs, I’ve realised it’s not always the obvious things that can cause you financial harm when renovating on a budget.
