22.01.2022 There was a Bike Budz buzz in the Repair Cafe warehouse today. Thanks again guys.

20.01.2022 Tomorrow morning from 10-12 we’re back at Stackwood for repairs, repairs, repairs. Come for a coffee and nibble at Stacked Cafe and check out the special vibe.

20.01.2022 How fantastic, the Productivity Commission has announced an inquiry into the 'Right to Repair'! From the Productivity Commission https://www.pc.gov.au/inquiries/current/repair 'The focus of this inquiry is on consumers’ ability to repair faulty goods and to access repair services at a competitive price.... We have been asked to look at the barriers and enablers of competition in repair markets and the costs and benefits of a regulated ‘right to repair’, including facilitating access to embedded software in consumer and other goods. We have also been asked to look at arrangements for preventing premature or planned product obsolescence and the proliferation of ewaste, and means of reducing ewaste through improved access to repairs.' Many thanks to our friends at THE BOWER Reuse & Repair Centre for championing the 'Right to Repair' campaign here in Australia, and notifying us of this crucial development on the journey towards repair legislation to better protect consumers and the environment.

19.01.2022 Hi Everyone, if you are planning on visiting repair cafe tomorrow we just wanted to let you know that we will be adding the new mandatory registration for COVID-19 contact tracing to our registration repertoire. So when you arrive at Stackwood, if you've downloaded the SafeWA app on your phone you will be able to easily 'tag on' with their QR code, which will be displayed at the front and the rear of the building, or alternatively you can register by leaving your name and phone number on the paper register we will have set-up. A number of us will be available to assist anyone with questions. For information and instructions on the SafeWA app see https://www.wa.gov.au//covid-c/covid-19-coronavirus-safewa We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!

18.01.2022 In these challenging COVID times, we are most grateful to the City of Fremantle for the community grant that enables us to continue our repair workshops at Stackwood from this month, and into next year. Thank you so much to the City of Fremantle! Come join us on Sunday 6 December, from 10am-12pm, at Stackwood for repairs and community vibes. All welcome!

15.01.2022 Congratulations to all the recipients of the WasteSorted Grants! In breaking news, our little repair outfit is one of the lucky recipients, thanks so much to Waste Authority of Western Australia ! And, many many thanks to our wonderful volunteers, committee members and repairers, who make repair cafe fremantle possible.

07.01.2022 Hi everyone, just a reminder that we aren't on in July due to school holidays, and we will be back on Sunday 8 August (second Sunday this month), 9.30-11.30am, at Stackwood. Until then, be in touch with any inquiries by emailing [email protected]

05.01.2022 Hi Everyone, we’re on again this Sunday, and we have Bike Budz joining us to assist with bike repairs, hope to see you there!

02.01.2022 Big thanks to the amazing textile presenters at our Re-purposing Used Clothing and Other Textiles Workshop held recently at Stackwood. It was so inspiring to see easy creative ways to re-use problem items like old socks, T-shirt’s, men’s workwear, sheets and curtains, and transform them into gorgeous floor rugs, other clothing items, wall hangings, and wondrous objects. We had Kate knitting up jute and hemp twine pot scrubbers, Betsy up-cycling silk clothing items, Maureen gi...ving displays on how to use a sewing machine, replace zips etc, Oona was displaying general approaches and mending techniques, Pam was displaying the gorgeous quilts and a beautiful child’s dress she had made from remnant fabrics, Anna was displaying how to do a hooked rug or wall hanging using coffee sacks and cut up t-shirt’s, socks and remnant fabrics, Rosemary brought in her beautiful looms and displayed the stunning rugs she has woven from men’s work wear and other salvaged items, Di and Kester showed us how to make beautiful hooked rugs from torn up sheets, and Sharon showed us weaving baskets from plastic pallet strapping and items made from moulding plastic lids from bottles! We will definitely run this workshop again next year as the feedback from attendees was so positive. We all learnt something new and that we can definitely divert textiles from the waste stream by re-purposing rather than throwing away, whilst having fun and making something beautiful! Many thanks also to the Waste Authority of Western Australia for its support to run this event. See more
