22.01.2022 An usual eclectic range of new arrivals and re-stocks from all over the independent music-sphere. From the fringes of Death Metal (a stack of new releases from Sentient Ruin Laboratories) to multigenerational mullet-rockers. Friendly figures of NYC avant-garde, to all-time underground favourites finally back in print! All available in-store or at repressedrecords.com Hope you’re all staying cool in this heatwave...

20.01.2022 Couldn’t be bothered with the essay below? Cro Memory Grin rocks, 5 thumbs up!!! OILY BOYS Cro Memory Grin LP (Cool Death) $29.95 *Out 26/6, pre-order now!* It is impossible to remove this record from the experience of occupying the same turf as this band the last 8 years or so. Seeing this ‘self-isolating’ hardcore band form an alignment with non-hardcore scenes, the polarization of the crowd at real-hardcore shows and audience members displays of affection/ownership/v...iolence to show that the Oily Boys represent ‘their’ Sydney (which they've done an admirable job acknowledging and addressing). Their live shows have been experiences of cathartic triumph or occasionally the opposite, the temperamental nature being a big part of the deep traumatic reality that is in their music. The act of being a long-haul band has resulted in an actual-fkn'-album that encompasses different modes and facets of oily-history. The album flows from their signature Hellhammer meets Midwest Hardcore medium paced stomper, to a series of faster Discharge/Rudimentary Peni numbers, a brief detour into dubby esoteric paranoia, more stompers, more riffs, more craft, more excellence and the final descent into madness on Gtrance. It sits outside meme-ish modern notions of egg vs. chain punk, or delineations of outsider hardcore vs. true to the core types. There’s echoes of YDI, Negative Approach (particularly the song Evacuate), Integrity and I am also reminded of post-Y2K bands that had particularly potent takes on a youth-subculture now hitting middle age: Omegas, Urban Blight, Double Negative, Condominium, Soma Coma etc. It’s a record that pushes back at the notion of contemporary hardcore being a purely stylistic exercise, but also avoids irony-poisoned contrarian moves as a substitute for writing actual tunes and saying anything important. It is very, very good. Nic Pre-order now if you want. Free shipping Australia wide on orders over $100. In-store pick up also available: https://www.repressedrecords.com/

19.01.2022 LP #2 for the dynamic duo of Raven Mahon (Grass Widow) and Mikey Young (Total Control). The Green Child Shimmering Basset LP (Upset The Rhythm, 2020) $26.95 While their first LP took a year to fully reveal its excellence, I’m fully on-board and excited for the second record by The Green Child. A duo that has an engaging approach to smooshing warm electronics into eternal pop melodies.... The Green Child simultaneously feels natural, effortless and innovative. Basically, they have what we call the knack. It’s cool music while avoiding all the boring, emotionless trappings of cool music. There are moments of new romantic bombast (OMD, both versions of Ultravox), but generally they embrace the smooth in a way that paints a straight line between Eno’s Another Green World and Sade. Other moments subtly nod to the swingin’ 60s like, dare I say it, Saint Etienne . The best to do it since Broadcast! Nic Cover painting by Anna Savage. @aloneatthebistro Back cover painting by Mateo Muratore. Sleeve design by James Vinciguerra. #thegreenchild #mikeyyoung #ravenmahon #upsettherhythm #eddycurrentsuppressionring #grasswidow

18.01.2022 Ticking down the time... Clock of Time - Pestilent Planet (Static Shock Records, 2020), New LP, $27.95 Debut album from a relatively new group out of Berlin featuring largely expat members of Diat, G.L.O.S.S., Idiota Civilizzato, Vexx, and Useless Eaters. A tight LP of relentless post-punk pummel with echo/chorus’d out atmospherics that taps into an end-of-times sentiment without coming across overly doomy or nihilistic (although there’s still a healthy enough dose of that th...ere too).As though Low Life relocated from Western Sydney to the streets of Berlin, trading in the Spurs scarves for some Bundesliga team. Which is to say, this is a release that bucked my instinctual eye roll reaction to a lot of Berlin-based music! -Mitch Artwork by Nicky Rat. #clockoftime @staticshockrecords #diat #gloss #uselesseaters #idiotacivilizzato #vexx @nicky.rat

18.01.2022 Two new tapes of top shelf home-fi weirdo pop! Karl Frog - Why Music? (Hidiotic, 2020), New Cassette, $8.95 Following up last year’s I Love Music, the mysterious Canberran/Estonian artist Karl Frog is back with another tape of skewed DIY pop. Another tape of contemplative, introspective tracks that see Karl Frog as Why Music? Recalls the low pop charm of Television Personalities, Itchy Bugger, Chris Knox or as though Bowie went into seclusion in the 70s/80s casting off bi...g studio production for a Tascam. TB Ridge As The Director - Rock n Roll Heart (Antifade, 2020), New Cassette, $12.00 Another familiar face and voice in the racks of the shop, this time with a new project. Tom Ridgewell of Woollen Kits, Constant Mongrel, and Calamari Girls has debuted his solo moniker, TB Ridge As The Director, on Antifade. Five home-recorded tracks that lay tribute to TB’s Rock’n’Roll Heart via Lour Reed/Alex Chilton-esque strut over repetitive backing before ending on a Bandcap-MIDI lounge-jazz number. Artwork by Sophie Woodward. Layout by Tristan Davies. Riso’d covers by Glom Press. -Mitch #karlfrog #hidiotic @tb_the_director @antifaderecords #tbridgeasthedirector #antifaderecords @ultrapol @glompress

07.01.2022 An astounding quality & quantity of new cassettes in the last week! Here’s an attempt at some succinct contextualising for ya... LAUGHING GEAR is members of Brando’s Island, The Zingers and Romeo playing nasty and inventive synth-punk. Phaow! Lord Gordo delivers the third QUEST MASTER album of peak performance Dungeon Synth. Compact Disc also available.... ZIPPER is a new supergroup on Tenth Court records playing shiny nu-wave art punk with pogo-friendly passages. Oxtail Recordings presents the debut release from sibling synth & oboe kosmiche/ambient/drone duo PHAETON. NKDX is Nick Kuceli & Dan Stewart (Total Control). Live In Lecce is their tribute to Italian football. Busted beats and the sound of the crowd. DJ Shah Sharafi presents a collection of Arabic and North African hits on NILE MIX Volume 1 & 2. THE REBEL Live At Tramways sees Mr Ben Wallers (Country Teasers) channel Clapton with an intimate acoustic set. And last but not least, 5 new releases from Newcastle’s ALTERED STATES TAPES Polish act DYKTANDO plays mutant Electric Body Music with a balance between the weird and accessibly rhythmic. On World’s Fare Melbourne’s 2200 manages to move from industrial techno to some Wire/This Heat post-punk territory. Low Income $quad label head STRAHINJA ARBUTINA hails from Croatia and unleashes high impact extreme dancefloor terror. IMPATIENS is Newcastle resident Amelia, who is also half of the wonderful duo TROTH. Scene At The River collects her unique synth pop pieces that sound both musically learned and charmingly idiosyncratic. Mr. Guitar, MIKEY YOUNG (Total Control, ECSR, Green Child) is back with another collection of nice post-kosmiche, huggable avant-garde compositions. 05.01.2022 As good as any record by a very, very good band.. Eddy Current Suppression Ring All In Good Time LP (Castle Face, 2019) $26.95 At the time of its release about a year ago I didn’t really know what to say about All In Good Time. While I was happy it was happening, I wasn’t all that excited for the first Eddy Current Suppression Ring record in 8 years. And yet three or four listens in, probably in a slightly overwhelmed and fragile mood, I realised I very much needed this rec...ord. Even listening to the song Shoulder just now I’m transported to the feeling of joyous release I felt about a year ago. It's the triumph of real human creative energy in a hyper-commodified world. I don’t think I can objectively divorce my feeling on this record from the many experiences I’ve had with ECSR, or the admiration for their mode of operation as a band (the model case study for how to be a cross over band, without become bland), but maybe this is the best ECSR record. How does this record differ from other ECSR releases? Well, it’s the band you know and love, but they’ve prioritised their pulsing energy and subtle strengths over trying to recreate a summer festival anthem. It’s got the best batch of Brendan’s lyrics, still touching and personal but with some additional real deal social analysis. Essential no frills rock ‘n’ roll that’s full of inventiveness, vibe and humanity. - Nic Cover art concept by Raven Mahon. #eddycurrentsuppressionring #castlefacerecords
