24.01.2022 Drop over to Fairfield Gardens Green Grocer and grab yourself a piece of honey comb. It is fresh off one of our local hives yesterday. If you want more, there are also Honey comb rounds from our Fairfield hives. Be quick!!
23.01.2022 Well this Season is certainly different to last with a swarm a plenty. Swarm prevention is the key to beekeeping but sometimes the bees know better. This is one of my home hives that has built up fast. I love swarms, they are often gentle ladies. Unfortunately for me, feeling a bit too confident and not wearing a suit, I got hammered! Second round was no better, even wearing a suit. As you note the bees weren’t falling directly into the box.

20.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all you Drones have a fantastic day with your brood and Queen
18.01.2022 I need to share the story of the 2017 Carnolian Queen. She arrived in 2017 from my supplier - NT bees - who have great Carnolian queens. But this one was special. Sorry the photo of her is terrible. She had a great strong Brood laying pattern and like most Carnolian loved to use a lot of propolis, yet still had reasonable honey stores. Her offspring remained placid and easy to work with. She was superseded early 2020 with a daughter who carries on the strong genes. Apolo...gies I don’t have a photo of her yet. A decision was made with the host to expand the apiary, so a split was completed on the 26th August. Reviewing the split recently on 9th September I have found the second daughter created by the split. Unfortunately I only had the green pen on me to mark her in last years color, so she should be blue for 2020. She would have mated since emerging so her laying and brood strength will not be known until the end of September . Again the mood in the hive is calm , I am hoping for a trifecta. I will be taking more from her to produce a few additional queens as we go. I have added another photo of her sons (Drones). The photos don’t show how black these guys are, they are the darkest drones I have. See more
18.01.2022 My latest addition, keeping in mind I am generally a 1 man operation carting and lifting 20 to 30 kg boxes of full honey frames . Lately my right shoulder has become increasingly painful due to repetition. I need to be able to rest it to recover. The Hive lift will allow me to move boxes off the hive without to much strain on my shoulder. In addition I have hives placed in some unusual places which mean I need to carry the hives and boxes some distance to the ute. Now this is the manual lift , maybe one day I can work toward the 4wd electric version . I will repurpose the crate and make a hive tool And smoker holder. So excited !!

10.01.2022 Fresh off the Fairfield hive. With the good flow this season around Brisbane the honey comb has captured the blue gum and iron bark nectar. If you are after local Honey jump over to the Fairfield Green Grocer and grab some delicious Rescuebees honey. If you are after Honeycomb drop me a message.
10.01.2022 Well unfortunately it’s my swarm again! When you think your ahead your not . Fortunately they didn’t take much honey off the double. When bees swarm they go to a close location to regroup before moving onto their new home. In this case the bees hung around literally for a over a day building comb on the branch. The hive was high and only accessible by ladder. Once branches where cleared away , the branch was tied off to another branch of equal hight and slowly lowered once cut. When lowering such a large swarm bees will drop in clusters , which occurred on this occasion. I didn’t locate the Queen this time but know she landed in the box first up . You will note bees running into the hive, a sure sign the Queen is in the box. This hive will be for my daughter it’s an 8 frame hive she helped put together and paint.
08.01.2022 Mentor session today with Michell after her flow hive recently swarmed. We located the new queen and marked her so Michell can find her for our next session. If you are new to beekeeping and your mentor doesn’t provide the time to meet your needs . Contact us to discuss a tailored session at a reasonable rate.
07.01.2022 Photos of the large cut out last weekend, not the largest hive I have cut out, but strong and a better calm hive. 10 kg of honey so they were focusing on building numbers. The queen was located half way through . Hive is now quarantined and doing nicely.

05.01.2022 A quick swarm collection on the way home in Rocklea. A very small swarm. The Queen was sighted briefly and in the hive. If I can catch her tomorrow I will cage her to ensure the swarm stays around.
05.01.2022 As a beekeeper I have been able to educate my children around the importance of not just bees but all pollinators, both native and introduced. It’s a proud moment when your daughter gets into her second bee suit at the age of 4 to work her very first European bee hive with confidence . Chloe will have her honey for sale at Fairfield Gardens Green Grocer from today. Her honey will be limited to Fairfield nectar flows only. ... Yesterday she told her Mum and I that the bees Tickle her See more

01.01.2022 Spring is around the corner and swarms are upon us. So Thankyou to Brenda who called a beekeeper to safely collect. Hoping for a more productive season for the bees. While there are few swarms happening around the place the weather has still been very cool in the mornings and evenings . There is still plenty in flower and bud at the moment but not a strong flow yet. ... These girls where lucky to make it through the night after falling from the original resting stop since swarming. The ground underneath them was warm as they clustered together throughout the night. Shook some bees into the hive then spotted and caged the queen and let the bee march begin. These girls will get hosted out almost straight away as I know the origin of the mother hive which happens to be mine.
