22.01.2022 Tamworth pilot Stuart O’Mally recently celebrated his 10 year anniversary with the Service. So we asked Tamworth Base Manager Nick Hattersley to pen a short piece to acknowledge this milestone. And as the old saying goes, ‘...with friends like these, who needs enemies!’ Take it away Nick "Stu joined the service on the 21 Oct 2010. In that time he has flown the BK117 and AW139, all without crashing! The last 10 years has seen President Trump ‘Make America Great Again’, the b...irth of a new generation of royals; Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the initiation of BREXIT and of course a tumultuous period in Australian politics. Though the world has seen some incredible changes over the last decade there has been one constant that rivals that of Archimedes’ Pi. Stu O’Mally! Stu joined the Service with a wealth of experience. He spent time conducting Pilot transfers at Gladstone with ‘Chopper Line, pilot instructing, flying in PNG and worked also for ABC television as the chopper pilot. It is here, and fortunately for us it didn’t transpire, that Stu’s career almost took a different path. After featuring in an episode of Playschool, as a helicopter pilot viewed through the arch window, Stu considered an acting career. Fortunately he stuck with something he was good at! Stu’s passion for aviation saw him own and operate a Squirrel helicopter as well as being a part owner in a Cessna 172RG. Having flown over 1000 HEMS missions with the company, there probably isn’t too much that surprises Stu, except of course aircraft wash day and his annual Instrument Proficiency Check! Stu is an avid golfer who has co-written several articles in popular online golfing websites. His most famous article, How to line up your fifth putt certainly raised some eyebrows. Stu is also an avid reader of classical literature from which he has no doubt gained his impressive orating repertoire. Stu’s regaling of golfing and mission exploits, interspersed with his favourite words 'palava' and 'blah blah' make every shift a memorable one. Most importantly, Stu is just the sort of person you want working at a base. He is a genuine gentleman, a relaxed professional who always value adds. As Tamworth’s Base Manager, I feel incredibly fortunate to have Stu as a member of the team and more importantly as part of the Tamworth Base. Congratulations Stu on 10 years, I hope we see another 10 from you." Stu is pictured here at left, with Tamworth Base Manager Nick, obviously in happier days before Stu read this post!
