25.01.2022 Sorry its been a bit quiet lately, I took some time off to settle into my new part time role and to celebrate my birthday! As off this Sunday, I am back into the swing of things! I am booked out for consults this Sunday but taking bookings. I have limited spots for drop in and trains on Tuesdays so drop me a line! Get in quick!!! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife

25.01.2022 This is what those with perfect off leash dogs must think https://www.newyorker.com//why-your-dog-needs-to-be-leashe

25.01.2022 Walk and train with Julie today. Beautiful winters today so we got out and about and worked on her associating dogs with great things (aka treat party). So in this little snippet of a video we did you will see everytime she looked at the dog park (it had about 4 dogs running around) or the person walking past with their dog, she got a treat party.... And for an extra treat you get a wonderful view at the end of the clip Shes such a lady! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #rescuedogsrock

24.01.2022 Henlo, my name is Ada & I am good pupper who likes to munch on things with my sharp teefs, mainly small hoomans. But I learn to be gooder and chew on tastier things. This young girl is being set up to succeed by her family to ensure she settles into her new family and resists temptation of chasing and nibbling on the small humans. She did very well today and coming from working line GSDs, she caught on very quickly! I look forward to see her for some drop in and train se...ssions to continue to expand on her training! #brisbanedogtraining #dogtrainingbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #gsdpuppy

23.01.2022 Next up I saw Bella and Buddy, such a well matched doggy duo! Bella is a Covid pup, which means she missed out on puppy school and needed help with puppy manners. Her big brother Buddy took over the training session and wanted to show her how it was all done . Being a Labrador he was ready and willing to work hard for the food. So we ended up with two very well trained doggos by the end of our session! These two lucky dogs are moving to acreage next year so it was vital to... learn recall and other focus activities that will come in handy. Their mum is going to practice hard and then also give it a go when they visit the block of land each week to ensure success What lucky pups, I cant wait to see videos of them running around their new big property! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #gsdofinstagram #labradorretriever

23.01.2022 Its pretty simple really Feel free to share in your local community groups. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife

22.01.2022 Now I am starting to feel more human and catching up on consults, I got to meet Buddy and Ruby! Buddy is a new addition to the family and he is quickly outgrowing his sister. We ran over some manners such as not jumping, how to manage digging and attention barking. Then both dogs learned some lead skills. They did so well and with lots of consistent training I am sure they will be pros in no time!!! Well done to both dogs, their pawrents are very dedicated and cant wait t...o hear how they go with their homework and I hope to see them again for some drop in and trains. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining

21.01.2022 Caught up with these two cuties again after a few weeks and what a difference. They are more focused on their Dad, less jumpy and more responsive! I will be catching up with this dynamic duo fortnightly to work on their manners, but they are off to a great start! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #standardpoodles

21.01.2022 I have a house full of tradies today and my nervous girl hates nothing more than men with beards in hi vis! So how did I make today a low stress day for her ? Behaviour medication that she uses regularly in stressful situations as prescribed by her behaviour vet ... Her calming dog acoustics dog cube music playing Pheramone spray (Adaptil) sprayed on her bed. Setting up her safe space AWAY from the scary men, out the back on the patio in the shade with a lovely breeze in the safety of her crate. Breakfast in enrichment toys to tire her out mentally. She has had half her brekkie spread out over two toys and the other half is in the freezer in other toys for later this morning when the plumbers arrive. Strict management and instructions to all tradies. I have a baby gate around my back door and the door is also closed. They are to text me if they need me and not to come out the back. Chuck on the other hand is crated inside with his food enrichment toys and he is enjoying watching all the commotion! Don’t worry I am keeping a close eye on him using the dog camera. Like chalk and cheese my two dogs! #lifewithananxiousdog #dogtrainerlife #managetheenvironment

20.01.2022 Food for thought

20.01.2022 Happy Halloween

19.01.2022 A very big Happy Borkday to this eccentric and lovable doofus who brings so much joy and laughter to my life. The last 5 years has been a wild ride and you taught me many things about dog training and behaviour but most importantly you reminded me of how loyal mans best friend truly is xoxo #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerlife #lifewithchuckbass #happybarkday @adoptadane

19.01.2022 My new work shirts arrived from Woof Cultr So excited to wear these out and about when training clients dogs!!! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining

19.01.2022 Today Chuck graduated from Nose Work class with @pawsitive_connection !!! We actually did this class a few years ago but it was a good refresher and we look forward to getting back into doing scent work and moving onto the next level in their classes! There are so many dog sport options out there to do with your dog, I always encourage dog owners to explore and give them a go as the humans end up enjoying them just as much as the doggos!!! #dogtrainerlife #scentwork #nosework #canineenrichment

19.01.2022 All animals are food motivated

18.01.2022 Just a quick update! I have taken on a part time role and my availability will be limited for training consults going forward. I will be going back to only seeing clients on Sundays and my existing drop in train clients I will work around my hours of my new role, so do not fear, I will not leave you high and dry. Thanks for your patience during this time and I hope to still be able to assist as many doggos as possible. ... If I am unable to assist in a timely manner I have lots of awesome dog trainers friends I can refer you onto! Stay pawesome #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining

18.01.2022 TV personality vs qualified scientists who have extensively studied animal behaviour on dog training.... This is a must watch video for all dog owners that explains the fall out of using outdated training methods.

17.01.2022 Today I met Taz, this sweet girl has become more fearful of meeting certain people recently resulting in a few close calls. Her loving family understands that these incidents stem from fear and want to help her understand that people are not to be scared of. We spoke about how to manage guests in the home, behaviour modification and muzzle training. Her parents had already purchased a Baskerville muzzle and we ran over how to best introduce it to her. Today when I arrived s...he remained on lead and with the aid of some yummy Prime100 treats she realised I am the source of good things and in no time I found myself with a new best friend I cannot wait for this girl to grow in confidence with the help of her family. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtrainer #rescuedogsrock

17.01.2022 Chuck Graduated Thanks to Pawsitive Connection for having us! We enjoyed getting back to basics and working on Chucks focus around distractions, as you can see he wasnt phased by the other dogs in the class and maintained beautiful focus. We look forward to doing some further classes with Pawsitive to keep working building on our skills and classes are a great controlled environment to do so! ... #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #sciencebaseddogtraining

17.01.2022 Who else spends ages making their dogs food look fancy... like you are on doggy master chef ? Normally we also have some bone added to this such as chicken necks/wings/ turkey necks. But I’m a bad dog mum and didn’t realise we ran out I am not a raw feeder for many reasons (surprisingly my old girl turns her nose up at raw meat unless it’s bone - she’s odd). But my dogs get lots of additives to their meals. Today we have:... Ivory Coat dry biscuits/kibble Greek yoghurt - natural probiotic Prebiotic powder Green lipped muscle powder Hemp Oil Pumpkin baby food Blueberries Brekkie is always in a go slow bowl so we can add the daily supplements and goodies and dinner we use our kibble for more interactive treat toys and training. Have fun with your dogs food, don’t let it be a wasted resource! #canineenrichment #dogtrainerlife #brekkietime @ivorycoat

16.01.2022 Her name was Lola ..... My first consult today was this adorably cute bundle of joy! I mean seriously, look at that face! It was very hard to concentrate. Lola has recently moved to a new home and is having some issues with separation distress, her mum had already crate trained her in the weeks we had been talking so we talked about further ways to reduce her stress when left alone. ... We then went for a little walk to work on her lead manners, she is a little pocket rocket so we worked on her learning to slow down and focus on Mum which she picked up really quickly! Now the hard work starts and she has a very dedicated family to help her, what a lucky girl #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #jugsofinstagram

15.01.2022 Was great to team with the wonderful Emily from Dundies and write a blog on toilet training! She has designed some reusable material puppy pads which are great for the environment!! Make sure you check them out!!

15.01.2022 This is the face of the goodest boi who was just rushed at by a not so friendly off lead small dog. As you can see he isnt phased and he is happy as Larry. Why? Because I intervened. I picked him up when I saw the dog coming for us, as I assessed the dogs body language and could tell its intentions werent to come over and play. Picking up a dog isnt always the best option, especially if the dog is large (couldnt do this with my dogs) and I couldve used other options to... diffuse and get out of there but at that moment in time thats all I could think of. The dog was half of Butters size so pysical damage wasnt a concern however emotional damage was, I didnt want my client to have a fear of dogs rushing at him. It would take some time to then change that emotional response even though he is a sociable dog. I could have thrown treats at the oncoming dog (however I predict it would not have deterred this particular dog), I could have called out to the owner (however the owner had a screaming baby in her arms and didnt even notice the dog accosting us), we couldve run in the opposite direction (however Butters was fixated on his new fren who he thought was friendly), I could have shouted stop, but myself between them etc. But sometimes you just have to make a call to keep your dog/your client safe and roll with it. Looking at Butters happy unphased face Im glad I did, even if it meant my pants copped the brunt of it. He wouldve been heartbroken to learn his new friend had different intentions to him. #leashyourdog #dogtrainerlife #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #happyboi #friendlyboi #terrierlife #forcefreedogtraining

13.01.2022 This morning I met with the very big, drooly and handsome Dre! This big softy was recently added to his new family and they wanted to set him up for success and get on top of his jumping behaviour. Being a giant breed, nobody wants 50kgs of muscle jumping on you. So we ran through how to manage this and teach him alternative behaviours instead. Luckily Dre LOOOOVES food and picked it all up really quickly. We also worked on some relationship building games with his new mum t...o help build a better bond between them. Was a pleasure to work one of my fave giant breeds even if it meant drool in my hair. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #giantbreedsofbrisbane #doguedebordeaux #sizedoesmatter #lapdog

13.01.2022 TV dog trainers are not miracle workers, in fact the opposite. Always ensure that you work with a trainer who understand the science behind behaviour. Hopefully in the future we can see more positive role models on tv

11.01.2022 Julie is all tired after her drop in and train today, she even has leftover chicken still on her nose shes saving it for later Her mum has been working hard and I cant get over how well she did today! We went on a walk and she focused so well! Then we came home and worked on her jumping and teaching her to play fetch calmly. We then ended the session with a little sniffari for treats around the yard, I am sure she will sleep the afternoon away now! ... #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #doggyadventures

10.01.2022 A great post!!!

10.01.2022 Today Chuck and I went for a walk at one of our usual locations. As we walk past a warehouse that is typically a bit loud, today it was exceptionally loud with lots of banging. Chuck didnt seem to notice or flinch but I still decided to stop before we approached the fence where the warehouse was as we normally walk through a very narrow path right next to it. We stayed back at a distance and paired the loud noises with some high value treats and a snuffle in the grass. Eve...n though he seemed ok, I made the choice not to take the risk and we ended up taking a different route just to be safe. But we ensured the short interaction we had with the loud banging noises was a positive one. Considering Chuck can be rather noise sensitive when it comes to storms, I like to ensure these experiences remain positive ones. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife

09.01.2022 Wow them eyes Todays clients Xena and Mateo had the most amazing eyes, it was super distracting! These two arctic beauties needed help with some lead skills, excitable manners around other dogs and some jumping. ... We had some giggles as they kept us on our toes with their very different personalities, but it made it fun thats for sure! I look forward to see these guys succeed once they have some new front attach harnesses! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #huskiesofinstagram #husky

07.01.2022 Can you help out my amazing friend who saves animals from death row and transports them to safety with local rescues ?!? She needs a new van to continue her work!! Spread the word far and wide!!!!

07.01.2022 Yesterday after some training and a walk with Tiger he was exhausted and ready for a big drink when we got back to his house. Turns out he was a lot hotter than we expected as he climbed into his big water bucket. A very timely reminder that our days are getting hotter and our dogs feel the heat. Make sure your dogs have plenty of water and shade and try and exercise them in the cooler parts of the day. Even though Tiger is a very fit boy who does 10km bush walks the aftern...oon sun paired with training was too much for this guy! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #queenslandweather #rescuedogsrock

06.01.2022 Do you ever just look at your own dog and think when did you start getting old Chuck Bass is only 4, turning 5 in a few months, but today on our little walk I watched him waddle next to me, contently sniffing, rolling in smells all with a bit of a limp and stiffness. I suddenly wanted to cry, where did the exhuberant, bouncy and energetic doofus go? He is only 4 but in large breed terms that’s heading towards senior. I’ve noticed the last few days, the odd limping however h...e still jumped on the fence chasing possums last night and jumped up the retaining wall chasing his sister this morning. But his body obviously isn’t recovering like it used to. Our walks are shorter and he is less concerned about the rude barking dogs behind fences (that used to enjoy bouncing up and down to as we walked past). I have started him recently on the same supplements as his elderly sister (12yo arthritic Labrador cross). Over the coming weeks we will have to start looking into his limps and aches whilst practicing his husbandry behaviours as he does not liked to be touched when he is in pain or discomfort. So we will focus a lot on choice and consent. Isn’t is just weird how one day you just notice how much your dog (or someone or something) has changed so much. A timely reminder to always be present in the moment #dogtrainerlife #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #lifewithbigdogs #bepresent

06.01.2022 Such a powerful video https://www.instagram.com/tv/CKypGQdn-ZE/

06.01.2022 Today I met little Leo who is a young pupper who is rather fearful of new people and certain things in the environment. He was recently rescued by his new family and it appears that he missed out on a lot of vital socialisation in his first home :( He requires time to warm up to people when he first meets them and we spoke about how to best manage those interactions. When I arrived I ignored him and simply threw treats and eventually he chose to interact with me and within ...10 minutes he was soliciting pats. We also discussed some typical puppy behaviours to manage around the children of the home. With the children learning not to take away food toys, not to pick him up and learning some calmer games to play so he doesnt get too mouthy. Lastly we worked on loose lead walking and he is super food motivated and he really did well at focusing on his mum! This little guy will build his confidence in no time build on his lead manners with some consistency and understanding. I cannot wait to hear how he goes! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #forcefreedogtraining #dogtrainerlife

05.01.2022 Today and tomorrow I am walking Zara who is a previous client of mine while her pawrents are away. I originally saw Zara for loose lead walking and her barking at other dogs on walks. Safe to say her loose lead skills have improved and her barking at other dogs has reduced. We did a big hour long walk, there was lots of sniffing, her Labrador nose found LOTS of food scraps and random items including stray socks, dead birds and empty food packets, then we found a shady park... to relax in Im sure she will be snoozing the afternoon away! I look forward to another adventure with Zara again tomorrow! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #dogtrainer #dogwalker #doggyadventure #looseleadwalking

04.01.2022 I’ve been away on the Sunshine Coast catching up with friends and I was super stoked to see this signage all over the walking paths! What a great reminder/incentive for owners. More councils need to get on board to spread the word so all dog owners can responsibly enjoy a walk with their dogs. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #leadbyexample #leashyourdog

04.01.2022 Next up I met Casper and Pearl. These two Cavaliers are a bit of unsure of visitors coming into the home. Pearl just likes to sing the song of her people and Casper is genuinely rather scared and extremely fearful. During my 90 minute consult he did calm down however it was clear a stranger in his home is very stressful for him. So we decided that the best course of action is for him to see a Behaviour Vet. As a trainer it is very important to know when to refer up to more ...qualified professional. Luckily these doggos have some very loving and understanding humans who only want the best for them and are willing to go above and beyond. It is wonderful to see. Pearl and Casper still enjoyed the yummy @prime100petfood and cheese treats and took full advantage of me trying to buy their love #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife

03.01.2022 To round up the last of my clients before my break I met Rudy from @shamroqinc This cheeky young monkey recently learned how to attention bark so we worked on how to beat manage his newly found voice. We also went over some loose lead walking as he loooooves to pull and he does well in the yard so his carers are going to gradually get him used to focusing outside the yard. ... What a smiley, happy and lovable floof! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #rescuedogsrock

02.01.2022 We are VERY excited to trial some of the @lickimat products!!! I have already packed up two of the products and put them in the freezer for the dogs brekkie tomorrow morning! Returning to part time work in the city means the dogs are left home alone for long hours a few times a week and Ive had to ensure Ive utilised management as well as increased enrichment. I shall provide an update tomorrow on how the doggos enjoyed their morning brekkie care of their lickimats. Utili...sing products such as these are a great way to increase the time it takes to eat their breakfast, encourage calmness via licking and utilising mental enrichment. #dogenrichment #canineenrichment #lickimat #dogtrainerlife #ditchthedogbowl

02.01.2022 Hello handsome Today I got to meet Tiger who is a foster through @freshstartrescue other than being extremely handsome, he has been a bit destructive lately so I spoke to his carer about enrichment to keep his mind busy so he doesnt destroy anything he shouldnt. Then we went on a walk to a nearby empty dog park to work on recall, which he nailed and also worked on him taking food and focusing whilst on a walk as he gets a bit too focused on other dogs (he is very socia...l). If all goes well, this handsome boy should be staying right where he is and he will be what we call a foster fail! So everyone cross your fingers for him #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #adoptdontshop #rescuedogsrock

02.01.2022 This afternoon I met Tilly and Parker, two adorable Labradoodles who true to the breed are full of life! These two needed help with barking and loose lead walking. As you guessed, being the super intelligent mix of Labrador and Poodle they picked up the basics really quickly. Their dedicated owners are going to practice some basics over the coming weeks and I look forward to hearing an update and checking in on them! #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #labradoodles

02.01.2022 Here is a little video of Zara on our walk yesterday. A perfect example of how different reinforcers works for different dogs. In this video I am simply using dry food as a reward (reinforcer), she is SUPER excited by food, so using high value food actually gets her very over aroused and she will start being a bit silly, so I decided to lower the value and just use dry food. Most dogs wouldnt even care less for dry food on a walk, but Zara would perform back flips, she is ...a foodie! But using dry food lowers her arousal to enable her to focus more. Really important to know your dog and what works for them in different environments. #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerbrisbane #dogtrainerlife #forcefreedogtraining #labrador #labradorsofinstagram

02.01.2022 Here are photos of Zara being so cute on our adventure today just because!!!! She was the goodest of girls even when faced with lots of dogs barking at us behind fences she trotted alongside me looking up at me her big Labradork smile waiting for her treatos! Super proud We climbed things, sniffed things, splashed in water and did all the doggo things. It was a pleasure hanging with her the past two days ... #brisbanedogtrainer #forcefreedogtrainer #dogwalking #doggyadventures #dogtrainerlife

01.01.2022 My talented friend Shelly made me some SUPER cute doggy bandanas for my clients They come in handy when I want to use Adaptil spray to help some of my clients feel a bit calmer plus it also makes them look really cute and fashionable AF! Butters was my first client to model them for me, he took his modelling job VERY seriously, I think he nailed it! @butters_theaussieterrier #fashun #doggybandana #dogtrainerlife #brisbanedogtrainer #forcefreedogtraining @adaptildog

01.01.2022 We saw this cool product shared by Trish from All Pets Education and Training and we decided to order some and give them a go! Ps. Ours only took 3 days to arrive We used some smaller kibble and smeared on some Greek yoghurt, baby food and peanut butter. They come with four tiles each (I ordered two sets) and they connect together. We used 3 of the tiles tonight to spread out the doggos dinner and it was a big hit. This would be perfect for freezing for longer lasting enrichment, great for husbandry behaviours and if you dont know already licking it a great calming behaviour for our dogs! #canineenrichment #ditchthedogbowl #dogtrainerbrisbane #brisbanedogtrainer #dogtrainerlife
