19.01.2022 This is a post from Satur Veterinary Clinic today If PARVOVIRUS ALERT We are currently experiencing a higher than usual incidence of Parvovirus in the Upper Hunter. Parvovirus is an extremely contagious virus that is potentially fatal, requiring hospitalisation and aggressive treatment. Clinical signs of Parvovirus include lethargy, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea (often foul smelling and containing blood). Puppies, young and unvaccinated dogs are considered the most at-ris...k group. It is a very resilient virus, surviving in the environment in favourable conditions for up to a year or more. Is is spread by contact with an affected dog, or with parvovirus contaminated faeces making it very important not to take your new puppy out to public areas until he has received all his puppy vaccines. Even shoes can track viral particles into the home!
