25.01.2022 The efficiency of a horses gait has a direct relationship with relaxation. With less effort, a state closer to ‘neutral’ or homeostasis is managed and therefore there is less stress on the physiology. Muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, brain, organs etc This enables relaxation to be possible, and relaxation is imperative to allow the movements that have been generated to occur. To enable this, their needs to be a smooth reciprocal innervation of active muscles, (both the f...lexors & extensors) to provide stability to occur painlessly, and without neurological interruption #shortcircuit Bascially, the signal needs to be strong, and the connection good. Not too dissimilar your mobile phone connection.... Network Coverage = Fitness. Connection = physiological ability. Signal = neurological activation. ie. nerves. This stabilisation during the flexion and loading phase is what provides elastic energy potential gain from ligamentary, tendinous and fascial tissues (remember we have mentioned how collagenous & elastic fascia is with it’s tightly arranged, and crimped design) to assist in efficient ‘elastic spring loaded’ leverage, under upper limb relaxation to allow the continuation of the gait cycle, efficiently. If you have a weak, fragile, poorly balanced or fixed structure #posturaltension, you cannot place it under load to stretch the elastic band... (see gif below ) Ideal efficiency of a horses gait is when the horses body has the optimum capacity to cover ground utilising the least amount of effort (energy) to sustain or achieve the pace or movement. Stability is King....and Mobility is the Kings Mother #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility #equinephysiology #horseanatomy #horsemovement #horsesofinstagram https://tenor.com/bifrL.gif

23.01.2022 Same same but different... Sometimes you want to target the same muscle groups but in very different ways such as encouraging the hip extension/limb loading phase of the stride as opposed to when you want to encourage the lateral stability during the flexion action/swing phase of the same region and joints. ...and some times you have the golden opportunity to see two very different horses, with very similar workloads and types of work, shine in their individuality of phy...siological changes, musculoskeletal development and needs like Chloe @chloegee_equestrian has with her two event horses. One an andalusian x riding pony and the other a OTTB and my goodness they are developing nicely!!#samesamebutdifferent Kinesio tape acts as a vector, carrier or conduit of ‘force’ upon the tissue - so when it comes down to fascia influence through changes of proprioception - the ways it can affect changes are many with placement and direction of stretch. It really was a beautiful morning spent with Chloe, Tia & Doodle and I wish them all the best for having a awesome time this weekend at Eventing In the Park #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility #Kinesiotape #rocktapeequine #rocktapeaustralia #equinemovementismedicine #horsesofinstagram See more

23.01.2022 Today is one of those days where you just can’t help feeling like the luckiest person in the world. When it all starts falling into place for so many, and you see so much wonderful progress, healing and development of both happy thriving horses, and human minds Yep, This is it, why I do it. I love my job. #horsesofinstagram #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility #equinemovementismedicine

22.01.2022 The deep fascia is a continuous fibrous sheet of connective tissue that forms an intricate network, enveloping and separating muscles, forming sheaths for nerves and vessels, strengthening ligaments around joints, and therefore binding all of these structures into a firm compact relating mass. Movement is both equally enabled and allowed to happen by the fascia #fascia #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility #equineanatomy #equinebiomechanics #horsesofinstagram

18.01.2022 We all talk about, and hear about things 'releasing' and creating a beneficial change in sensation or movement for both ourselves, and our horses - tension, muscles, ligaments, tendons, even scar tissue.....but what is it that actually releases? and how does this actually result in the change we are hoping for? Join me in this video below as I talk through some of the concepts of fascial relase, and fascial disfunction. #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility #horsesoffacebook #exracehorse #equinebiomechanics #equinemovement #movementisequinemedicine #horsemassage

16.01.2022 "There was no relationship found between V4 of horses and their HRresting and very few ones between V4 and HRrecovery in this study. V4 is the parameter that has most often been shown to be associated with the competitive performance of horses [26], including in endurance racing [27,28,29,30]. Thus, there appears to be no scientific evidence for the fixed HR recovery system in endurance racing. This system may not only be preventing fair competition conditions for all horse...s, but may be compromising their health and welfare because the HR of horses with lower HR resting may be able to recover sufficiently to continue competing despite their health being compromised already." 16.01.2022 Anaerobic exercise is a type of physical exertion that requires the conversion of glucose in the horses body. without using oxygen, to result in production of fast access source of energy (ATP). The flip side of this, is that beyond V02 max, when the recruitment of muscle fibres that are suited to anaerobic metabolism commences, a subsequent a sharp rise in blood lactate accumulation occurs as a product of glycolysis, aka the anaerobic energy producing process. #resetequinesem #equinescience #equineexercisephysiology #horsesofinstagram #horseridersofinstagram #eventersofinstagram

15.01.2022 What an awesome time it was! It was an absolute pleasure and joy sharing reflections and insights with you all yesterday - I am so grateful for your time, and dedication to wanting to expand your understanding in practically applicable ways. Why behavior? Behaviour is what we have at hand to work with. Tongue twister of the day... underdeveloped dorsolateral prefrontal cortex ....say that 20 x ... I hope to see you all again, for the next session where the topic is ‘Equine Pain’ #horsefacts #knowledgeispower #horsesofinstagram #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility #ikigai See more

12.01.2022 Does your horse have a 'tell'? A 'tell' is often referred to in human behaviour, as an unconscious signal that a person many give when they are keeping a cognitive process, thought or information from those around them or at least trying to! Movies and stories have depicted it in poker scenes, or during some for of deception or manipulation, usually it indicates to the bad guy what is going on for the good guy to escape. Our real life example may be that person who can neve...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Could not agree more with these words from Dr Aaron Horschig Squat University We as coaches, instructors, educators and leaders must inspire, motivate and nourish understanding - not simply just reactive ‘doing’. Change is lead by understanding, and only then can be motivated by empathy. There is a very short lifecycle in knowledge, when imitation is the only driver. #horseridersofinstagram #resetequinesem ... #horseridingcoaches See more

04.01.2022 As I say many times to the question ‘is it behavioral or is it pain?’ It’s always behavioral unfortunately, it is the only way your horse can communicate and manage pain or discomfort. #resetequinesem #sustainableequinemobility

04.01.2022 It is definitely a different kind of a natural view on the walk from my car to my location of ‘work’ (learning!) for today in the City center. Today is Day 1 of a Mental Health First aid course with @beyondallbounds It is okay to let people know you are not okay, and it is very okay to ask for help....but also importantly, it is okay to receive help. Life is hard, we all need a leg up sometimes #mentalhealthmatters #ruok #resetequinesem #equinecommunitygrowth
