25.01.2022 Free Creative Workshop in Dundurrabin Monday 1 December ***Registrations are essential*** No prior art experience required DPI are holding a workshop for residents of Tyringham, Dundurrabin, Dorrigo, Bostobrick and surrounding areas to explore the benefits of the creative arts as they consider the impact the fires have had on their ‘backyard’. 16.01.2022 Bellingen Community Resilience Panel Come Together for the 1st Time. Bellingen Shire Council & Newcastle University have partnered to engage and empower community through a deliberative panel who came together for the first time on the 13th November. From 77 expressions of interest, 25 panel members were selected against specific criteria to ensure they were representative of our Shire. Panelists spent one evening and one day together with expert speakers from Sustainable La...ndscapes, Cobargo Bushfire Recovery and the Food Connect Foundation. The aim of the panel is to: - understand the issues related to community resilience for the Shire and - explore the role of Council, the community, and others in building capacity for community resilience. 13.01.2022 Watch: Resilience & Food Safety Forum On 24 November hospitality business owners, market stall holders and small producers were invited to learn how to diversify their business and build greater resilience. Local business owners Kevin Doye from Kombu and Nissim Boshari from Zaatar shared hints and tips from their experience. NSW Food Authority representatives provided useful information on food safety, labelling, risks, requirements and resources. 12.01.2022 The Street Scape Renewal Grant Scheme are delighted to announce that 12 applicants from across our Shire have been awarded grant funding to beautify and our local spaces and celebrate our local artists and cultural heritage. Funds will be used to enhance the aesthetic look and feel of our street by sprucing up existing paint work, incorporating artistic elements to shop facades and improving cosmetic appearance. Look out for projects in your area. Some include: An Old Man Dreaming installation @ Thora Store, Thora A vertical garden & al fresco space @ Farm and Country, Dorrigo Historical poster recreation @ Foodworks, Urunga.

08.01.2022 OZGREEN’s Resilient Communities Program, kicked off in August 2020 and covers all types of resilience topics including: Climate, Water, Food, Energy, Infrastructure & Economic Development, Ecosystem & Fire, Community. For the Water Resilience" topic, Council partnered with OZGREEN to conduct a tour of the local sewage and water plants. The tour was organised by local residents in the North Bellingen Resilient Communities group who wanted to better understand where our town... water resources come from and it ends up! Neil Riach from Bellingen Shire Council said Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the educational tour and it would be great to take more groups in future. 08.01.2022 FREE Shredded Log Mulch available for Bellingen Shire residents, from Saturday 12 December 2020. Council are offering residents the opportunity to take some fre...e shredded hardwood mulch in time for that Christmas gardening project. The large logs and tree stumps that have been cleaned up after storm events have been processed at the Raleigh waste management facility, tested, and is now ready to go back out to the community. The mulch will be free to Bellingen shire residents from Saturday 12 December. To get your mulch simply visit the Raleigh Waste Management Centre located on Shortcut Road during normal operating hours and enquire at the weighbridge. Each resident can take home the equivalent of one trailer load per household per day from Saturday 12 December to 12 January 2021 or until the mulch is all taken. Residents will be required to supply identification showing that they live within the shire to gain access to this free mulch. For reasons of public safety residents will be required to load their own vehicles so if you want to take advantage of this offer, please bring a shovel or fork and remember to cover your load. This material is intended for domestic residents and will not be available for commercial use. For more information please contact the Raleigh Wase Management Centre on 0436028179.
