10.01.2022 I am teaching a workshop on Sat 29 Oct at YogaFest 2016 - The workshop is titled: Introducing Resilient Health Body Technologies A mix of physical practice and theoretical information, suitable for all levels Resilient Health Body Technologies is a practice designed to improve health, longevity, and functional ability. Its strongest influence is Chinese Qigong (Chi Gung), a term which literally means Energy Practice or more accurately Health Cultivation Practice. The ...practice also contains elements of Taijiquan (Tai Chi), Hatha Yoga, and Physiotherapy informed Pilates. 10.01.2022 About Resilient Health Body Technologies. Resilient Health Body Technologies is a combination of the most powerful health giving body technologies I have experienced in my 19 years of practise. Its strongest influence is the Chinese Taoist body technologies of Qigong (Chi gung) and Taijiquan (Tai Chi). The practice also contains elements Hatha Yoga, and Physiotherapy informed Pilates (visit http://www.resilienthealth.com.au/about-resilient-health-b/ or continue reading here).... A central tenet of the practice is the traditional Chinese medical and Taoist belief that the circulation of both fluid and kinetic/potential energy inside the body must be free flowing without blockage for optimal health. This gives the practice a sense of fun fluid grace and a freedom from tension that I have rarely experienced any other way. The techniques are fun and enjoyable and the relief from pain and improved function they have afforded me personally is superlative. I have two Chinese martial arts/healing arts teachers. Wee Kee Jin is a dedicated Taijiquan (Tai Chi) teacher from a 400 year old teaching lineage. My other teacher, Zhen Hua Yang, also comes from a 400 year old tradition, although his differs by being a family lineage. He has two teachers that are over 100 years old (at last count). From their perspective their vitality and longevity is in large part due to specific Taoist exercise techniques with origins deep in antiquity based on assumptions about what is important for health that many Westerners may not be familiar with. For example, blood, its quality and circulation, is of particular concern in this regard because of the predisposition of red blood cells to clump together creating a significant barrier to optimal circulation. Breaking up these clumps with specific patterns of movement to afford better circulation to internal organs, joints, bone marrow, and the nervous system is considered of the highest priority for vitality and longevity. Furthermore in traditional Chinese body technology it is accepted that almost everyone has an excess of unnecessary tension that develops initially as a consequence of the way we all learn to stand up as infants and impedes circulation and fluid movement. This tension is often made worse by many types of exercise performed for the purpose of health in, for example, gymnasiums, yoga studios, or swimming pools world-wide. Learning how to release unnecessary tension and harness movement/breathing to improve fluid energy circulation takes time, but provides benefits for life from the beginning. Hope to meet you in classes or workshops. Kind regards and Namaste, Ben Gaffney PHYSIOTHERAPIST B.Sc. (Hons), Ph.D., MPhSt., Yoga Australia regd Teacher (Level 1)
09.01.2022 I will be presenting at this years YogaFest on Saturday 29 Oct 2016 just before the lunch break at 12:20 pm. Hope to see you there for the class/workshop or just for lunch. Namaste, Ben Gaffney
07.01.2022 I have a new time table flyer for Resilient Health Body Technology - Qigong. It is double sided. On side one (where the picture and logo are) it the text reads: Resilient Health Body Technologies is deep authentic therapeutic Qigong with integrated complimentary elements of Yoga, Tai Chi, and Pilates. The practice is based on a carefully considered understanding of the body from the dual points of view of Chinese/Taoist body technology and Western Anatomy & Physiology. In... common with Qigong, the primary goals of practice are to improve conditions for the function of internal organs and endocrine glands and for the circulation of nutrients throughout the body including the bones and bone marrow. The emphasis on circulation also creates fluid patterns of movement that convey grace without strain and served as the basis of the internal martial arts and healing arts in ancient China. P.T.O. On side two the text reads: The Development of Resilient Health Body Technologies: A Personal Narrative I loved sport from my youth. I skated and played ice hockey every day on an outdoor rink as a child growing up in the United States. Upon arriving in Australia, I played Australian Rules football and then athletics in my teens. Later in my 20s and 30s I played and loved touch football, Rugby League, and Rugby Union. In my 20s I did a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Physiology at Griffith University. I then did a research Ph.D. at RMIT University on Ginseng and Siberian Ginseng and their effects on the stress response in athletes. In my late 20s I took up Yoga classes, up to three a week as well as home practice. I loved Yoga and benefited from it in ways other than just physical strength and flexibility. I could concentrate better and felt more confident in my academic-, social-, and emotional-life. Sadly, after eighteen months of Yoga I developed back and hip pain that I had to admit to myself were caused by the Yoga I was doing. I didn’t give up. Instead I just stopped doing many poses and looked for insight from teachers and from extensive reading. As part of this search I changed my career by studying Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland. I studied and wrote on the academic foundations of Clinical Pilates and taught the discipline for eight years. Although Pilates helped me, I still had back and hip pain. I eventually tried Qigong and Tai chi and learned as much as I could from Chinese teachers and from an extensive body of literature. The techniques I learned afforded me the relief from pain I was looking for and they form the core of the Resilient Health Body Technologies I teach. Hope to see you in classes and workshops soon. Kind Regards and Namaste, Ben Gaffney PHYSIOTHERAPIST B.Sc. (Hons), Ph.D., MPhtySt
