24.01.2022 Sooo what did we learn at the Planning Panel today. We learnt that the World Surfing League don't support the 60m elevated pathway at Winki Pop (well done WSL). We learnt that the surfing community do not want the elevated platform. We learnt that the platform is not likely to attract tourists to Bells Beach. So now we scratch our heads and ask WHY BUILD IT? Why is the Surf Coast Shire Council intent on blowing what could amount to $500+ on an elevated platform at Winki Pop that will destroy the view? An elevated platform no-one wants? Over to you Surf Coast Shire election candidates? What are your views. Are they consistent with the community?

19.01.2022 Surf Coast Shire ballots must be posted by this Friday. Vote for candidates with runs on the board, who care for the coast and understand our community and what they value. Respect the Beach.

16.01.2022 There is a weeding day at Winki Pop tomorrow with the SANE crew. The weeds in the revegetation plots need to be pulled before they get a chance to drop their seed. Meet at 10am in the area over the road from the Winki Pop carpark entrance. Tools provided. Best to wear long pants and shoes in case of snakes. A C19 mask and water too! ... You’ll also be asked to sign in for C19 reasons. If more than 20 people turn, up there will be 2 separate groups in different areas. Protect what you love!

16.01.2022 Voting is going to start in the Council election in the next few days and there are many new candidates to choose from who you may not have come across before. To hear what they have to say there are two public forums happening. The first is Anglesea and Winchelsea wards tonight (Tuesday). Just login on zoom at https://zoom.us/j/91486565857 from 7pm tonight to have a listen and you can ask your own questions on the Q & A panel. The second is Torquay Ward tomorrow night (Wednesday, 7pm) with 7 new candidates hoping to get your vote. This forum will have a similar format, just login at https://zoom.us/j/98349793288 Brought to you by 3228 RA

14.01.2022 We hope the Bells reserve can breath a sigh of relief after the last day of the state government panel hearing yesterday on the Winki platform where they heard from 3228 RA (Andrew is a structural engineer), Bells Beach Preservation Society (Maurice Cole, master story teller who has Bells in his DNA) and Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast Branch (Darren is a civil engineer with added input from an ecologist). Being last meant we were able to effectively refute all of the reasons...Continue reading

11.01.2022 So the @World Surf league has done a complete about face on the Winki Pop viewing platform, saying if the community don't want it, we don't want it, but the Surf Coast Shire is still pushing for it. This shines a bit of light on that

09.01.2022 Overdevelopment is killing our coast. Vote for the candidates who truly care for and understand the coast.

05.01.2022 We need a councillor or 3 that will actually stand up for Bells (and recreational surfers) rather than seeing at as a place to be exploited. Go Maurice Cole Torquay Candidate !

04.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast have written to the Acting CEO of the Surf Coast Shire Council and Minister for the Environment asking that they put a stop to any further development of the Winki Pop Elevated Walkway. The walkway is clearly not wanted by the surfing community or WSL. The time and resources being wasted on the walkway could be better spent dealing with weed management, litter, stormwater management and other environmental issues in the Bells Beach Surf Reserve. It is time council focused on protecting Bells Beach and stopped trying to turn it into some urban style tourist attraction.

04.01.2022 The management plan for Bells Beach is to Respect & Protect the surfing reserve. The message from the community is to Leave It Alone! Yet we have developers continuing to line up, ‘Snouts at the Trough’, ready to exploit the place. This article on Maurice Cole, his run for Council and the absurd Winki Pop platform. It’s made us google ‘pablum’!

03.01.2022 Surfrider Foundation Surf Coast branch have chipped in $500 to fight the 6 Storey Hotel in Torquay at VCAT. Please help support the community fight this overdevelopment in Torquay. Its the Surf Coast not the Gold Coast!

01.01.2022 The SANE crew pulled a heap of weeds at Bells last Sunday and had a great turnout. Whilst much of the community value a pristine Bells Beach there are still many developers out there wanting to exploit it! The panel report on the Winki Pop platform was due to be completed at the end of October but is still being finished off. Whether the report is made public will be up to the Minister for Environment, so if you have time, you may like to encourage Lily D’Ambrosio to release the report publicly.
