15.01.2022 Had an interesting one today! Customer advised PC was failing to POST (boot up). I hooked it up to my test bench, everything worked fine! After some poking and prodding, turned out that the PC would fail to boot when connected to HIS monitor, and only when connected to HDMI1 on the TV! Connected to HDMI2 and it worked a treat! 14.01.2022 What’s the latest over here at RCS?? Another fun adventure with a laptop that would work for a little while, then turn off... work for a little while... then turn off... Naturally i do all the basic diagnostics, check running temperature (laptops like to shutdown if they get too hot), but that was fine, check the hard drive and memory... no issues there... so why could it be...? Turns out, the battery was not only dead, but was failing in a way that even when connected to power, would cut the power out at random intervals! Well new battery and a SSD (because everyone should be running an SSD in 2020!) and we had another very happy customer! A 7 year old laptop given a whole new lease on life!

10.01.2022 I remember a few years ago, I upgraded my dads laptop from an old mechanical hard drive to a new SSD hard drive. He came to me and said I don’t like it! My morning routine used to be to turn on the laptop, go make a coffee, come back and the laptop would be just about ready to use. Now I turn it on and I don’t even have time to stand up before it’s ready to go! The key message from this story is that even some of the oldest laptops or desktop computers can get a new lease o...n life with something as simple as a Solid State Drive upgrade! Solid state drives can perform anywhere up to 40 TIMES FASTER THAN A MECHANICAL DRIVE!
