24.01.2022 Introducing Jack Mccarthy from JMmotorsport, and his wingless sprint car. Based in Adelaide, Jack's been racing on and off since 2004. With over 10years Speedwa...y racing experience, Jack now finds himself behind the wheel of a 3.8L V6 powered car, that uses a GF1 chassis, constructed in the US. The car itself has been built in house at Automotive Technix in Adelaide, by Jarrad Heath and Jack. For those of you who aren't familiar with speedway cars, the driveline consists of a single gear (straight through driveline), made of titanium with a swivel ball winters quick change rear end, which is the lightest, strongest choice. The engine is fuelled by Methanol, which is fed from a custom plastic tank, with a thick rubber bladder inside with built in baffle. Fuel is delivered using a Raceworks 100micron filter which is submerged in the tank, and an EFP-502 pump. Although we don’t warrant this pump for use with methanol, Jack has been having success. Jack runs Siemens Deka 600cc injectors. Engine modifications are heavily restricted. The engines are built in house (Jack has two engines), and are rev limited to 6,000rpm with a max Compression Ratio of 9.5:1. The engine is a single cam pushrod engine with hydraulic lifters which starts off life as a Buick V6 before being built into a race engine. In any given race, the rpm varies from 4600-6000 for 25laps straight. The car uses a conventional cooling system with a purpose made PWR alloy radiator. Management must be the OEM ecu, but wiring loom is allowed to be modified, and ECU can be tuned for methanol and to maximise power. On any night, the car will run 60-70 laps. A standard charging system (alternator) is retained with a small gel battery. Exhaust on these cars is tricky because there isn’t a lot of room between the engine and chassis. Currently Jack is running a set of 6into1 2step headers from Advance headers. The suspension on the car is a 4bar torsion setup, using titanium torsion stops, so it has minimal deflection under load. The car runs oil filled Pro shocks. Jack has an inventory of 29 torsion bars with different weights, and 15 shocks with different compression and rebound valving for different tracks and conditions. Footwork consists of Weld wheels and Hoosier tyres. Front rims are 8 wide direct mount. The left rear is a 15x15 Billet Rim. The right rear is a 17x15 with a bigger tyre to the give the car a stagger measurement to help in the corners. Different rolling size tyres are used to increase or decrease stagger, to help with car control on different tracks. Brakes are titanium, front and rear. Raceworks 200 series lines are used with Quick Disconnect/Dry break fittings. Jack is looking forward to getting back in the car for the upcoming 2019/2020 season.
