21.01.2022 STILL relying on word-of-mouth to grow your business? The problem with word-of-mouth is that it lacks TWO key components:... 1. CONSISTENCY You see, word-of-mouth is sporadic... One week you’ll get a flood of referrals, and the next week? Nothing. This leads to the Revenue Rollercoaster. Up... and down. Up... ‘Ohh it’s nice up here! Oh wait -‘ Down we go. So then we get business owners who are afraid to invest into their business. They can’t add a staff member, buy that new equipment or take time off... ..because they don’t know what’s around the next bend. And number two... 2. 11.01.2022 An astounding number of business owners can't answer this simple question: What do you do for people? ... ‘What? Isn’t it obvious?’ Is it? Because many businesses respond with the METHOD they use, rather than the RESULT Let us explain Your METHOD is your product or service: Hairdresser Dentist Fitness trainer Gardener Chiropractor Etc... But what you actually DO for people is not the same as HOW you do it (the method). People don’t go to the hairdresser just to get their hair cut and coloured. They want the result - how getting their hair done will make them FEEL. How you feel affects how you act and experience life - social interaction, work performance, your reactions, etc. Another example: Do people go to a chiropractor because they want to lie on a table... ...have a stranger crack their neck... ...and manipulate them into awkward positions? Don’t think so. If you’re a chiropractor, you help people to live, work and enjoy their life without being held back by pain and restricted movement. THAT’s what you do for people. The HOW matters significantly less than the RESULT you produce. .......................... SO WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM? The big mistake we see from businesses ALL THE TIME (and the reason that many are struggling)... Is that their marketing talks too much about the METHOD rather than what they actually DO for people: Chiropractors..... ‘Back adjustments’ Dentists..... ‘Teeth cleaning’ Fitness trainers..... ‘6 week exercise program’ Etc Etc.. Obviously people want to know the method, but that should NOT BE YOUR FOCUS when marketing. So instead, think about what it means for your customers (or a specific type of customer) and focus on that: Chiropractors - ‘Get back to enjoying the activities you love... without chronic back pain!’ Dentists - ‘Let your smile be the brightest on your wedding day.' Fitness trainers - ‘Find renewed energy to run around with your kids.’ What a difference! Which one would you more likely respond to? .......................... 10.01.2022 Hi everyone, I know that generally ‘naming and shaming’ is frowned upon, but I feel that my experience needs to be shared.... Last Saturday I went to a local hardware store and bought a stack of tools and materials because I’m building a new shed in my backyard. But I’ve had no end of trouble with the stuff I’ve bought, and after 5 days all I have is a colossal mess and I feel like I’ve been totally ripped off. I called the hardware store this morning and they just wouldn’t listen to my concerns, so I want to get your thoughts and see if I have a case to take it further with them. Here are my problems: - To start with, when I tried to lay the foundation, the cement was way too runny and kept flowing to one side. - The mitre-saw I bought is clearly faulty. I know this because several times, I tried to put a newly-cut piece of timber in place and it was the wrong size! - The timber itself is completely useless. The wind kept knocking the posts over as soon as I put them in the ground. - My new hammer is a total piece of junk. The second it landed on my thumb I knew something was wrong with it. - After the hammer incident, I moved onto the drill but that was just as bad. The holes were way too big for the screws. So after I called the store and they wouldn’t help me, I decided to go in and see them - but all the guy did was ask me a bunch of stupid questions!! I couldn’t believe it. He was asking stuff like: Have you built something like this before? (No, but it can’t be that hard.) Did you follow any plans or instructions? (No, why does that matter? I’ll work it out as I go.) Did you get someone experienced to help you? (Listen. My 19yo nephew built a shed last month. I’ve been around much longer than him. I AM experienced. Not at building sheds specifically, but I’ve done lots of other stuff.) Do you know we have a shed installation service? (Yeah, but I have to pay for that right? No thanks.) And the questions just kept coming! Did you make sure the ground was level? Did you measure before cutting? Did you use the right drill bit? I was really mad by this point, because I could tell he was just deflecting from the REAL issue: THE STUFF THEY SOLD ME DOESN’T WORK! I don’t know what I’m gonna do, but I do know one thing - I’ll be telling everyone I know to avoid that place. And I tell you what, that’s the LAST TIME I try to build a shed! Maybe it works for other people, but they’re probably just lucky. Or live in a place that’s less windy. Or use a different brand of tools. It doesn’t matter, because I GIVE UP. I guess sheds just don’t work for me. Anyway, I better run I just started a business and I’m doing all the marketing myself! I don’t know much about marketing and I’m quite short on time, but I’ll work it out. How hard can it be? Wish me luck!

02.01.2022 Feeling overwhelmed? Overwhelm is pretty common among business owners.. but it can be overcome! There’s two common causes:... #1 >> Trying to do too many things at once. The solution: Pick ONE thing And stick with it until it’s done! The difference between most success and failure is just persistence. People who fail to achieve their goals often just give up too soon. ‘The tragedy of life is not that man loses, but that he almost wins.’ Inches from success, we stop. So instead, learn to persist. Keep going. Take another step. Then another. You don’t know what’s around the corner. ........... #2 cause of overwhelm - You’re out of sequence. If you have a big goal or task to accomplish, it can often be broken down into many small tasks Which can be arranged in some kind of order to help you get there... a sequence. Overwhelm comes from thinking about step #10, when you haven’t even done step #1 yet. Trying to solve tomorrow’s problems today. Worrying if there’s a bridge long before you get to the river. The solution? Stay in sequence. Follow the process and do things in order. Worrying about stuff you’re not up to yet is a waste of time, energy and resources. It messes with your head and stops you from moving forward. And the best thing is, by the time you get there the stuff you were worried about may no longer be an issue
