11.01.2022 I don’t often share non-hospitality things here but this is something worth sharing. I have had lots of coaching conversations about leadership in 2020 and am collaborating with Ritsa Nicholas on a new book on teams and leadership in the restaurant industry. Below is a post that (for me) lays out a great example of leadership, on many levels. Leadership is not often discussed or invested in, in our industry because quite frankly in most cases staff are seen as transitory ...and just bodies to do work rather than valuable people who can be inspired to do and experience more under our leadership. Likewise those in management and owner positions are so busy keeping the plates spinning, they don’t know if taking time out to become a good leader will actually make a difference, so they don’t invest the time or money to do so. Instead they muddle along doing their best but not in the effective way they could if they invested in their own growth. Hopefully 2020 has taught us that against the odds we can do things better together and that what was impossible is now possible. It’s possible to engage ‘transitory’ team members, it’s possible to lift your game to the next level so you can do more with less and it’s possible to be a great example as an employer or team mate rather than the toxic image that was being played out in the media due to the wage theft candles last year.



07.01.2022 Have You Got A Success Mindset? "Mindset is so important. It is really important for you to not only believe in what you can do in the future, it's also really important to ensure that you actually go ahead and do it that you implement it and that you implement on a daily basis. There's going to be a part of you that's going to say, Oh, this will never work, Or we're too busy to do these. We'll put marketing off to another day. Or we can't collect any more people's dat...a, because we've got everybody's data. That self-defeating mindset, is what gets in the way of you actually achieving your dreams. I once coached a guy who had a very working-class mindset and his business, over and over again, his sales hit a glass ceiling. I pointed out to him that he didn't believe that he was worthy of earning more than that. He went away a little bit bruised. He didn't expect that kind of feedback. But to his credit he came right back at it and took it to the next level. Even when that voice in his head was saying, he shouldn't do it, he couldn't do it. There were more important things to do. He just went ahead and hammered away at his marketing. Sure enough, here we are two, three years later, and he's earning more than five times what he was earning when I gave him that feedback..."
