23.01.2022 Someone once said when you love someone with dementia you lose them twice, once when they are diagnosed and then when they die This is called Ambiguous Loss. ‘Rapidly shrinking brain’ is how doctors described it. I wouldn't wish Dementia on anyone. As the patient's brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. Patients can eventually become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat or drink. There will be people who will scrol...l by this message because dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a battle against Dementia In an effort to raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would appreciate it if my friends could put this on your page for today. Hold your finger anywhere on the message to copy and paste to your Timeline. Thank you For all those that have had friends or family members who have suffered.

21.01.2022 Birthdays in isolation are not much fun. But the flowers and drive by really helped!! One delivery of flowers has my medicinal gin!! Thank you to all the staff it is a little scary they know me!!

20.01.2022 All to often we forget that there are real people caring for other real people. Brian Herd you are a master craft of the written and spoken English language and an objective thinker. Thank you.

18.01.2022 I hadn’t heard of these until recently. I have now seen them in action and they are effective

17.01.2022 thank you to all staff who daily make a positive contribution to the lives of those we care for. These are tougher times than usual however I admire how you are all stepping up.

16.01.2022 TEMPORARY CHANGE TO VISITING HOURS!!! We know you love our residents ... we do too. In these times we need to keep them safe....for us this is an inconvenience but for our residents it is a death sentence!! I ask, so that we are able to keep the care and attention available to our residents, that while the only entrance is via the Quarry Street door the visiting hours will be daily 0900-1100 and 1600-1800. We will still be asking our mandatory questions so please stay away ...if you have any flu like symptoms or have travelled abroad or interstate in the previous 14 days or have been in contact with someone who either has a positive COVID-19 test result or is waiting on a result. Together (apart) we can do this and flatten that damn curve!! We will be able to offer FaceTime sessions and phone calls but please arrange prior to your call with office staff. I thank you all for your understanding. I have always been incredibly proud of my staff but in these times I applaud each and every one of them. See more

16.01.2022 Always enjoy hosting students. I believe the benefits are mutual. One day hope to see the provision of care to the aged is regarded as a chosen professional specialty on the same level of other currently recognised specialist areas. I salute our future clinicians. Despite recent media reports I have most generally found our CQU students to be well prepared, mentored and above all willing to learn.

15.01.2022 I know we have the reputation we have because of the dedication of our AINs!!! Proud of them all.

15.01.2022 Keeping visitors up to date on our visiting hours and restrictions that apply as of the 1st May 2020. Monday to Sunday 0900-1100 in the morning. Monday to Friday 1600-1800 in the afternoon. Saturday to Sunday 1500-1700 in the afternoon. All visitors under regulatory guidelines are required to provide proof of having had the 2020 Flu Vaccinations if it is available to them, this must include the batch number of the vaccine given or a medical advice of the reason you are not a...ble to receive the vaccination, these are limited in nature and do not include, conscious objection, religious or cultural reasons. We need to keep our residents, your loved ones safe. Please remember this is a mild inconvenience for us, but to the elderly Influenza A or Corona-virus could be a death sentence. We thank you all for your co-operation and understanding in these difficult times. 13.01.2022 It’s always great to have wonderful staff who love their job and the residents!!

12.01.2022 Unfortunately many people don't realise care staff are not permitted to go against the residents wishes they cannot force residents to bathe, eat, change their ...clothes they can only encourage. Make sure you get the facts before you blast off at the care staff for neglect. Care staff have to walk a very fine line. It's the LAW See more

12.01.2022 A Small and significant celebration for ANZAC day.

10.01.2022 When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in an Australian country town, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when t...he nurses were going through his meagre possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Melbourne .. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet. Cranky Old Man..... What do you see nurses? . . .. . .What do you see? What are you thinking .. . when you're looking at me? A cranky old man, . . . . . .not very wise, Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . . .. with faraway eyes? Who dribbles his food .. . ... . . and makes no reply. When you say in a loud voice . .'I do wish you'd try!' Who seems not to notice . . .the things that you do. And forever is losing . . . . . .. . . A sock or shoe? Who, resisting or not . . . ... lets you do as you will, With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking?. .Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse .you're not looking at me. I'll tell you who I am . . . . .. As I sit here so still, As I do at your bidding, .. . . . as I eat at your will. I'm a small child of Ten . .with a father and mother, Brothers and sisters .. . . .. . who love one another A young boy of Sixteen . . . .. with wings on his feet Dreaming that soon now . . .. . . a lover he'll meet. A groom soon at Twenty . . . ..my heart gives a leap. Remembering, the vows .. .. .that I promised to keep. At Twenty-Five, now . . . . .I have young of my own. Who need me to guide . . . And a secure happy home. A man of Thirty . .. . . . . My young now grown fast, Bound to each other . . .. With ties that should last. At Forty, my young sons .. .have grown and are gone, But my woman is beside me . . to see I don't mourn. At Fifty, once more, .. ...Babies play 'round my knee, Again, we know children . . . . My loved one and me. Dark days are upon me . . . . My wife is now dead. I look at the future ... . . . . I shudder with dread. For my young are all rearing .. . . young of their own. And I think of the years . . . And the love that I've known. I'm now an old man . . . . . . .. and nature is cruel. It's jest to make old age . . . . . . . look like a fool. The body, it crumbles .. .. . grace and vigour, depart. There is now a stone . . . where I once had a heart. But inside this old carcass . A young man still dwells, And now and again . . . . . my battered heart swells I remember the joys . . . . .. . I remember the pain. And I'm loving and living . . . . . . . life over again. I think of the years, all too few . . .. gone too fast. And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last. So open your eyes, people .. . . . .. . . open and see. Not a cranky old man . Look closer . . . . see .. .. . .. . ME!! Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within ... . . . we will all, one day, be there, too! PLEASE SHARE THIS POEM

09.01.2022 This is an opportunity for consumers to be informed about medication and choices.

08.01.2022 So many of us have loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer's. Here are a few good things to know when you're communicating with them.

05.01.2022 To all my FB people. It’s that time of year when as a Rotarian and Poet of Mackay club member I am asking you consider buying a ticket in our Christmas lottery.... Please DM if you wish to purchase a ticket. I will forward payment details and ticket number. Thanking you in advance for your support. See more

04.01.2022 Posted by a staff member. I couldn’t share so had to copy and paste!! Thanks Emma, when staff post these words of wisdom you just know they all get it. So proud of staff always but particularly in these testing times.

02.01.2022 It’s got to happen now. We can no longer tolerate successive govts putting age care on the back burner and throwing piecemeal pennies of funding on a temporary basis. Good providers deserve better. Our residents deserve better. Quality costs. #profitisnotadirtyworditsresponsiblebusiness #thatsthelongesttagever

01.01.2022 You're never too old to have fun! If there's one 'Git Up' challenge video you have to see, it's this one from Murray Haven Homes in Barham, New South Wales. Story: https://7news.link/RpBvVc #7NEWS
