25.01.2022 CrossFit and High Tea?!Those two don’t seem to go together I was invited to be the guest speaker at the XO all women’s CrossFit Gym to raise funds for the Rockhampton Hospital Oncology Department after one of their CrossFit member and competitor was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. The high tea was held at the gym. We discussed the importance of self care and self awareness the best that we can. I wrote this because even when we do our best to care for ourselves ( eati...ng the right foods and exercising and maintaining our mental well being possibly through the practice of mindfulness or meditation) we will still have physical and mental struggles and challenges. It is part of our human experience. But we can do our best to support our physical and mental well-being despite those experience to live our best life possible. 21.01.2022 I don’t know many things more courageous than having breast cancer and enduring the associated treatments. But courage isn’t the absence of fear but doing those things that are necessary despite it. Today’s yoga practice was about courage and honoring those who had the courage to dedicate themselves and sacrifice themselves for the service of others. We explored the value of courage from the mat May at Sunrise Yoga Flow. I hope to see you next time

It’s our community outreach initiative providing women in geographically remote areas information regarding current breast cancer treatment options including breast preservation and breast reconstruction options when mastectomy is necessary! Empowering women with knowledge thereby enabling an informed choice and decision instead of fear. 11.01.2022 Welcome to the MAT! Finally I have started online yoga classes. So excited because my intention for learning to teach yoga was to share the benefits with my cancer patients! So I hope to see some if not all of you on the mat. Sharing a practice and creating a global community of mindful yogis that discover the benefits of yoga together.
11.01.2022 Prevention: We speak of how to treat breast cancer but how about preventing it all together?!! Yasss!!! We are realising the great impact our lifestyle and mindset has on our health. Obesity has become a global health problem. I know you’re thinking ‘yeah yeah yeah, we know that we should exercise and maintain a healthy weight, blah blah blah But did you know that the fat cells in peri and post menopausal women are different and can potentially increase risk of breast cance...r? Yep, they increase aromatisation of estrogen Basically, in plain English being overweight increases your risk of breast cancer. The majority of breast cancer is not related to our genetic risk but to other factors. At least we can control our lifestyle choices! As a surgeon I too have to practice healthy lifestyle choices the best that I can and be a role model for my patients. Why should they listen to me if I don’t practice what I preach This morning Langston and I walked as part of the MagTeam100 challenge to raise funds for Prevent Breast Cancer Charity. Walking, running, cycling, yoga whatever just move and get outside. 10.01.2022 Everyone came to support our Restore More Community Outreach Initiative: A Woman’s Right To Choose even the cows! I encountered a mob of cows while driving there I’m not kidding there were about 1000 cows in the middle of the road and I had to stop driving. So when we go regional and remote, we go out there!!!There was great support from Rolleston Community Health Centre and the Breast And Prostate Cancer Association of Emerald. Now there are more women informed of breast cancer treatment options. Those women will tell other women and there will be a ripple effect of less fear around breast cancer and more empowered informed patients. Where to next?!
