14.01.2022 IT'S TIME TO BE BOLD! When you're writing your covering letter don’t use words like I feel, I believe that or I think. They sound like you’re not quite sure of your abilities. To come across as more confident use words like: I am, I will, and so on. You have nothing lose.

When addressing the selection criteria, do you just say that you can do that aspect of the job, without an explanation of how you do it? To make your application stand out, you need to SHOW how you can do that job. ... For example, anyone can say they can use spreadsheets. To make an impact in your application, you need to show how you have used spreadsheets. This demonstrates your working knowledge of spreadsheets. This can be as simple as: Yes, I understand how to apply spreadsheets. I have had to create a number of spreadsheets of website visitors and usage as part of my reporting. Applying this approach as you address all the criteria for that job will increase your chances of landing that interview.

10.01.2022 Resume writing tip: write your application for each and every single job. It isn’t easy and it’s going to take up a lot more time, but, trust me, it’ll be worth it. You see, companies get lots and lots of applications. ... So, they need to be able to cull and one of the easiest ways to do it is to get rid of the ones that don’t meet their selection criteria. My advice? Write a new covering letter each time and grab that resume of yours and tweak it to look more like the job you’re applying for.

We've changed so much in just five, that I think 10 years is ample. Of course, this all changes if your going back to an industry you were in 15 years ago. How far back do you go and why?
