25.01.2022 Heard of a circular economy but dont know what it means? Were here to help * Design products and packaging to be reused, repaired, have parts replaced and be easily recycled. * Reuse off-cuts and excess. * Products made with majority recycled input material.... * New business models with products being rented, used under a subscription-base, and more product stewardship schemes. * We buy less and use products fully. * Materials in products can be separated and salvaged. * Small or no residual waste. * Organic materials are broken down in a natural process to enrich soils and support renewable resources. * Reduced requirement to take new raw materials. #circulareconomy See more

22.01.2022 A great share from a Rethink Waste TAS community member: Ive permanently ditched wet wipes from my little person wrangling kit in favour of the humble face washer and reusable/washable wipes made from cut up cloth and old flannelette pyjamas. As a keen bush-walker Ive often seen wet wipes littered in the environment. People dont seem to realise that most wet wipes are made of polyester or other synthetic fibres such as polypropylene and do not breakdown like a tissu...e does. They stick around for a really long time and can leave microscopic fibres in the environment. Avoiding wet wipes is both better for the environment and my back pocket. Happy Plastic Free July! 02.01.2022 Check it out... This documentary looks at how the plastics industry has used recycling to help sell more plastic, and distract attention from the bigger environmental impacts of ever-growing consumption. * * * It is essential for industry to reduce the amount of plastic it manufactures and not push the burden of plastic pollution, by recycling, onto consumers and local councils. * * *... As individuals and communities, we can do our bit to avoid and reduce plastic packaging, re-use fully what we have, and buy goods made from recycled materials, but unless major industries and manufacturing systems genuinely change, the plastic problem will only continue to grow. * * * We need a #circulareconomy See more

01.01.2022 Over the past few years, marine debris, in particular larger plastic items like water bottles and straws, has received a great deal of attention, and with the help of people like you, more and more people know it is a problem! AUSMAP and many other scientists, however, see the microplastics (plastics < 5mm) as a potentially greater danger, even calling for them to be listed as a hazardous substance. Check out the good work AUSMAP are doing to understand where microplastics are found and how they got there, and you could join their citizen science project too! #MICROPLASTICSWEEK
